The title says it all. I updated the ROM to the current version (1.08?) to get the GPS unlocked. Since then the phone charges when connected to my laptop with the HTC USB cable.
I have two standard USB car chargers and neither one will charge the phone.
BUT, a standard USB cable connected to the HTC charger DOES charge the phone.
So, what's up with the car chargers? Is it the new ROM???
I care a little less about battery life if I could charge the phone while driving.
Weird. I did the ROM upgrade, and I can charge my phone with any mini-usb anywhere. I have some really nice Motorola chargers and some extremely cheap, generic, piece of crap chargers both in the car and in the house - all of them work flawless.
PerfAlbion has a good suggestion - perhaps the chargers themselves are broken. A fuse or something?
Do the car chargers work properly for other USB devices?
The one in my truck does charge my old 6700. The other is in the boat. Both used to charge the TouchPro and neither do now.
What I don't understand is why the standard USB works using the wall charger but does not work using the car charger. Can't be the HTC vs. Standard USB connector.
Something to do with the voltage or amperage, ohms, kilowatts or chicken bones?
Why did HTC go to the trouble of creating their own USB connector if it works the same as the standard USB connector?
It could be an issue with voltage or amperage delivered by the charger in question. Perhaps it's high enough for the 6700 but not the Touch Pro. The question is - is this really related to the ROM upgrade, or is it something else?
A hard reset might not be a bad first step, but I'm wondering if you don't have a different problem. Do you have a second battery you could try (it may be the safety circuitry in the battery that's causing the issue)? Or install one of the battery status utilities that will let you see whether the phone is charging, but the lights/indicators just aren't registering it?
Something's odd since one wouldn't expect a ROM upgrade to impact the hardware this way. But if something got corrupted, who knows. A hard reset would likely fix that problem, otherwise it's likely to be a bit of sleuthing.
A hard reset produced no change. Neither the original battery or the extended battery will charge on the car charger. The battery will charge on the laptop and with the wall charger.
I would say the next step is to replace the car charger, but that is just me. Then go for the phone. I had a no charging issue in the past that I thought was a bent pin - it was deemed a warranty issue and a free replacement was sent out.
If you're in the warranty period, report it as defective and ask for a replacement phone.
Yes, that's probably going to happen. Meanwhile, I downloaded the update again and re-flashed the rom. Now the GPS works again and I'll check the car chargers later.
Thanks to you and everyone else for trying to help.
