PLEASE HELP cant open .PDF> work attachments WILL PAY $
i get pdf attacments from work that arrive like this: <15642345.pdf> in the email.
when i download it, it says cant open file. when i try to save it, the file type says .PDF> and is greyed out so i cant change it. so the problem is the little > at the end.
i am able to setup my exchange email account on an iphone, instinct and ther phones and the file show up without the < > signs around it and the file opens up normally.
on windows mobile devices it download file but doesnt open. on the Palm pre it doesnt open either unless i forward t my aol account on the Palm pre and than it opens.
but on Pocket PC if i forward to aol account it still doesnt open.
the only way for me to open on Pocket PC is to forward to aol and open aolon a browser andthan the file open. veryannoying.
my tech friend was in the registry trying to figure out how to tell it to recognize the file ending in .pdf> and open in adobe but it didnt work. he did however get it to show the pdf logo next to the attachment.
It doesn't sound like the file is really on your device. What size file are you trying to receive? If you send it to a gmail or hotmail account and can pull down the file on a PC?
Where are Downloads being saved on your phone? Can you browse to the directory.
Check the settings for your mail account and confirm that you're set to download attachments. It defaults to not doing so. You may want to put a limit on the size you download automatically.
But with attachments, typically the first time you select it, you're flagging the file for download the next time you grab mail. Do a send/receive, and it should open.
i know all about the downloading. been using Pocket PC since the beginning.
the file is there it just wont open bc it has the weird greater than sign on the end of the extension.
as mentioned above.
i need a hack of some sort to put in the registry to make it open the file with the .pdf>
the problem is when i tap and hold the file and click on save as, i can change the name but the extension is greyed out and has the .pdf> in there. so i cant change it.
that is the problem. its not recognizing the pdf bc of the > sign at the end.

That is why I am suggesting a program like Resco Explorer that will allow you to change the extension too.
Is this a recent issue? I get daily reports in .pdf files all the time and they open properly. Wondering if it was like that from day one or if a hard reset might restore it to how it should be. Bell gives you Adobe Reader 2.5. If that is what you have it should open the .pdf files. Maybe you can download it somewhere and see if a reinstall fixes the probem?

What version of Exchange are you running. I also get PDF attachments without an issue (as well as others). I'm wondering if there isn't an exchange version issue or configuration issue - I don't recall having the brackets around any of my attachments.
Just ran a test - no brackets. It looks like the message in your photo is coming from an application that's hooking into Exchange. Yes? No? I think there may be an issue with either how it's being delivered to Exchange or how Exchange is syncing it to the phone. Like extra "<" and "." characters in a MIME or MAPI stream. The other mail clients may recognize that they're invalid and junk them, but the PPC isn't.
Try e-mailing yourself a "regular" PDF and see what happens from a POP account. If the brackets are still there, then there may be a corrupted registry entry or bad application install. If they aren't, I think it's a server side issue.
Last possible thought - do you get your Exchange mail via AS or IMAP?
Little randomness there, but hopefully something there helps.
i beleive the way they send it is thru a pdf that is viewed thru a webpage. i attached a page view of what i see when i open the email on my computer. i can open them just fine but when i do it actually opens a new web page with the document in there.
you can see the properties i the image.

let me know
The hyperlink is there because you're viewing the message through Outlook Web Access (everything is a hyperlink). Can you get at your mail through the full Outlook client and see what the embedded file looks like there? That'd be more meaningful.
For what it's worth, you can hit your OWA site from your phone and see if the attachment will open there. PIE is probably better than Opera for that, but I've been known to do that when there's a problem with AS as a work around.
i noticed in my email sync options that MESSAGE FORMAT is greyed out and has plain text selected.
could ity have something to do with it?
i see that other emails i get with pdfs actually open ok and come in without the < >.
so is there another security or setting that can be tweaked to allow them to open?
Go to ActiveSync and hit the menu. Do you have a "Configure Server" option? Or something like "Set up server" (I can't remember what it is if you haven't configured on yet). If it's not "Configure Server," then I believe you're not syncing via the MS protocols and settings. If that's the case, select that option, and use the web address of your OWA server as the server address. I think you're pulling this down through IMAP or POP rather than the Exchange connection.
