Touch Flo vs Today Screen

I've had my TP since it was released on Sprint and never really gave the good old today screen a shot because I really loved touch flo. I was surprised to see that, after giving it a second chance recently, my phone has become so responsive it's almost scary. there is no more start menu lag, screen refreshes from portrait to landscape are instant, and file access is noticeably faster. Just about everything I do with my phone has been sped up. Not to say TF3D slowed my phone down so much, but I really am impressed with the overall performance of this phone now.

Yea TF3D is a resource hog. They need to streamline it more.

I don't bother with TF3D--can do everything faster from my customized Today screen anyway. I miss the cool graphics from the weather app but it's not really that important of an app for me.

I thought I would miss the weather app but with Tonaya Weather To Go I get the same functionality and I don't have to remember to slide over to that tab. I barely used it anymore. I'd find myself in the rain without an umbrella saying to myself "don't I have a touch flo tab just for this???"

Thanks, but not as cool graphics. I especially liked the raindrops on the screen that are wiped away by the windshield wiper in the TF3D app. Silly, I know, but I just liked it.

i know what you mean. i really like the TF3D weather tab, and I will probably find myself going back to touch flo at some point, but i like the responsiveness of my phone for now.

I never liked touchflo from the start. I like using a combination of various SPB tools (Pocket Plus, Mobile Shell, Weather, Wireless Monitor, Time).

Touch Flo works fine for me and is quite responsive after a few tweaks. I'd like the option to cut out tabs and modify Touch Flo a bit more though, but need to find an add on that allows this.

The option to remove tabs does exist - it is part of a utility called diamond tf3d config. It can be found here -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749

I remove people, internet, and music as I like other programs better than these tabs - by cutting those alone I get back about 10 meg of ram and even better I no longer have to slide past them with my finger.'

Tab management is just scratching the surface of what this app can do - give it a whirl it is a must have for tf3d

Thanks, mknollman. I don't think this app alone would suffice for me to use TF3D. Removing and reordering tabs is nice but adding a new tab or two that would automatically load specific programs might be pretty cool. I think WM 6.5 has a Calendar and Stocks tab. What would be involved in creating other tabs. Would one need a custom ROM to do this? Any recommendations? Thanks.

There are cabs out there to add both of those tabs to tf3d without rhodium - look here to do ANYTHING with tf3d -

tf3d the collection

It has cabs for themes, mods, and everything you could imagine. As mentioned above there is a way to view tf3d and have a normal today screen as a tab - it should be in this link as well.

I agree that is a lot of great stuff, but I couldn't find the stock cab that allows you to add it as a tab. For ticker tape it says that the writer couldn't incorporate it in to TF3D.

For a stock tab on TF3D you have to use a Rhodium rom (Touch Pro 2). It can also be found at XDA Developers.

Also, if you like TF3D and the Today screen, you cab use a program called SecondToday which allows you to use both by toggling between the two.

You can also use Manila Today Page, MTP, to have a TF3D tab that loads Today Items.. It works just wonderfully..

Additionally, rearranging/removing tabs is quite simple, you just have to edit a file in the windows directory, it's an XML file named 26948339_manila

I've streamlined TF3D to an MTP tab running iPhoneToday, Call History, SMS, EMail, Weather, and Settings..

TF3D was fun for about 3 days, then reverted to Today in WM6.5 (MightyROM5) for so much faster performance. Way too much overhead.

Not only is TF3D slow when it runs - but just having it installed could be slowing everything down.

Have you seen how many files were put into \Windows for TF3D???

Since that folder is searched periodically by Windows Mobile - adding all of those TF3D files into that folder will slow down the Touch Pro - even if TF3D is turned off.

All of those files should have been stored in a separate folder - not in the same place as critical operating system files!!!

There is a \Windows\TouchFlo folder - which is where all of that stuff should have been stored - and that folder only has 3 files in it...

Since I just reinstalled everything after updating the ROM, I notice most of that TouchFlo garbage isn't present in \Windows. I assume that stuff only shows up once you run activate TF3D, which I intend to never do. Opening the \Windows folder is SOOOO much faster now.
