So i just got the touch pro

I pretty much like it comparing to the PPC 6800. But I just need to ask a couple questions.

1. Are there any hacks i should know about to better the phone? For example to make the battery life long or increasing the capacity of the volume when on the phone.

2. Does this have a lock like the Mogul did?

3. Any suggested 3rd party applications?

4. Anything else I should know besides all this?

Yon customize the hang up button to be lock phone or bring up a menu for a few other selections in settings. The phone battery becomes far better after 10 or so full charge-discharge cycles.

I'd go into further detail, but all those questions as well as information on tweaks and advanced customization apps are covered already multiple times on this forum. It's where I found my info.

SPB apps will work, but if you want the today plug-ins, you may need to disable TouchFlo 3d as your basic screen and revert to the standard. I've actually dumped TF3D all together in favor of the new SPB Mobile Shell (really, really sweet and much easier to customize) and the other Today stuff I've got. TF3D is nice, but I prefer the Mobile Shell, Phone Suite, Pocket Plus, etc.

If you're looking for better battery life, you might look at some of the alternative ROMS that are running around. There are some at XDA-Developers and others at SSKusers. You'd want the trimmed-down ones that remove the carrier's bloatware, etc. for max battery life, but there's a number of good ones out there.

altho this is going to seem complicated G u can run a normal today screen alongside tf3d - there is a program out that makes your normal today screen a touchflo tab - its pretty nice. I will find the name again and get back to you. I also resisted tf3d for a while - heck I think I even posted at some point about it being bloatware - but I found in the end it did all that I needed and looks nice. I use the customizer to drop a few tabs I never used and it really cut the ram consumption. For me, altho I fought it @ first, touchflo really gets the job done in a simple and sexy interface.

I can't answer all your questions, but here's a few suggestions:
