i have had my phone since October 23 and have had zero keyboard issues... i also have another one that i received a couple months later and it does not have keyboard issues either..

what sprint is sending you are refurbs and its possible those refurbs are just bad..

... that or you are installing some incompatible software (or combinations of software) that don't like to work with the Pro. I haven't heard about too many keyboard issues at all. Frankly, you're the first I've heard of, other than from physical damage...

I have had mixed keyboard issues, but they were all tied to some odd compatibility issues with a few cooked roms I had tried - could this be the case for you?

if you are using it right out of the box with no 3rd party software, then you are getting bad refurbs... it happens... just take it back. if they have documented your account with the issues as being the same, you should see if they have any NIB PROs.....

If you're on your second or third replacement, ask to talk to the manager in the store and explain to him that the problems that you're having and that you don't want another refurb replacement. If he declines, politely mention "cancellation," "Better Business Bureau," and "Federal Communications Commission" to get more attention.

Usually, after a bad replacement or three, they'll replace the phone with a new one, but you may need to impress upon them how important it is to you.

i am on my second touch pro and am having keyboard problems again. the first one was dropped a lot but this one hasnt hit the floor at all. I am pretty sure this was not a refurb though. I got the box and everything with it from the sprint store.

a pain nonetheless.

I on the otherhand, install lots of apps, but no cooked roms.

another common problem between this one and the first one was that the screen does not turn off completely when i press the power button, or when it times out. and the lights stay lit up for the home, back, end and call keys.

weird.

I was on my third TP with keyboard issues, Thats when I started seeking out forums, trying to figure out if there was a resolve. I decided it was no harm, no foul, so I started flashing cutom ROMs on a screwed up phone. It seemed that every time I slid open the keyboard it would freeze up. I flashed one of Scott Croslers old roms, and the keyboard issue quit happening.

I flashed a few more ROMS, and it would happen on different builds. I've pretty much read every keyboard complaint that exists in forums, and heard a ton of different reasons for it to happen. The one that stood out the most was a loose connector located beneath the space key. Supposedly you could press hard on the space key, and the keyboard would work again.

I never had luck with that, but I've stuck to ssk ROMS and have not had issues in a long time.

Wow,

amazing I find this forum. I was using my phone today when bam... out of the blue the keyboard stopped working. I hadn't installed any new programs. I hadn't done anything different... I was just using the phone. I guess I'm going in to get a replacement. Wish me luck.

I just specifically searched for this topic today - my first Touch Pro died within a month with this exact problem. Symptoms were:
-HIGH keyboard latency
-Keyboard would eventually stop working
-Soft reset would fix things
At first this cycle would happen once every few days and it eventually went to about once an hour. I then started having problems getting the screen to turn on - I knew the phone was on because I would feel it vibrate when I got an e-mail or text. When it finally died and popping out the battery wouldn't restore the screen, I took it to the Sprint Store and they gave me a brand new one.
Here I am a month later and I'm repeating this cycle with the second phone.
I have NO weird-o software programs and run pretty much a stock installation. I don't use cooked ROMs, and don't ever drop it.

Update: I tried the "squeeze the phone by the space bar to reseat the keyboard connector" and that seemed to fix the problem - I haven't had a reoccurence since then!

My keyboard stopped working about a week ago. Just tried the spacebar squeeze and it started to work. Very cool. Now if only my email would start working again. I can receive email but my send stopped working about the same time the keyboard stopped responding.

Oops, it happened again and the space bar didn't immediately work. After putting pressure on the space bar numerous times as well as other keys I did finally get it to work again. One only knows how long it will be before it goes hard down. Well, the touch pro 2 is on the horizon and I am counting the days.

I have been having similar keyboard issues. Not sure I am convinced it is the keyboard. Definitely the phone keyboard does not work and the phone crawls. It also seems to have worse signal strength on the antenna and switches between EV and 1X modes. hum....
