Constant 100% Processor Usage

My TouchPro has been running like a slug for weeks and seemed to just get slower and slower. Yesterday it was at the point where the TouchFlo wouldn't really change menu's, playing mp3's would have a 5 second delay when skipping songs, and the device was almost unusable.

I installed Pocket Mechanic and noticed the Processor was pegged at 100% and just stayed there constantly.

Upon closer examination I found that PowerGuard 1.2 was constantly running and would not close down properly. I knew it launched itself when I soft reset, but I always closed it down, but Pocket Mechanic showed that even though it was closed down and didn't show in the active app list, it was still running in the background.

After removing it from my Touch Pro it has been like night and day. The device is far more responsive, battery life is better, and I'm happy.

Not sure why this happened. I installed the PowerGuard app to monitor the battery when the phone was new and the battery was not broken in and had horrible battery life. Never had any idea the app I was using to troubleshoot the battery life problem would end up being the biggest problem so far.

Just a thought. Make sure you set task master to shut down programs when you touch the X button. If may be set to tap and hold which will allow all of your programs to stay open in the background if you only tap on the X.

I usually just close all apps through the HTC dropdown menu on the main screen.

Having to hard reset a phone every now again and then needing to reinstall apps and data files is not really a solution or even a good way to use a PDA phone. It's enough of a pain to have to soft reset and you should not have to even do that on a regular basis.

The phone has been running smooth for the past week or so and I'm fairly happy. The CPU runs normal and the battery life seems a bit better.

hard resetting ppc phones is a necessary evil atleast a couple times a year, when one starts to load after market programs and reinstall/uninstall cooked roms, beta programs, etc.. that eats up the resources and some of those files never release those resources.. so a hard reset isd a must. it is a pain to reinstall, especially if you do a lot of customizing, but needed.

also soft resets are needed daily...
