member lllbordedlll over at PPC Geeks has been working diligently on a GPS fix for the Verizon Touch Pro. A week ago I sent him an NV dump from my Sprint Diamond in an effort to help him out. Anyway it looks like all his efforts have paid off & he's about to post the fix here. He actually posted it earlier this morning, but pulled it until he could find a fix for the persistant roaming icon. Keep your eyes peeled for an update at the above link & enjoy!
When I flashed my Sprint Pro, the GPS already worked, so I think it's only applicable to the Verizon Touch Pro. I was hoping the link I posted above addressed some of the cursor lag issues, but I'm reading that it doesn't.
I read somewhere on here that someone said in Google maps the cusor does not move along a pre planned route. I've found that if you click on the cursor in the lower right box it jumps to your current location and starts moving. I have the latest Google Maps software and my XV6800 has the GPS hack. I hated VZ Navigator. I thought it was a stupid design to have the cursor move up the phone and when it runs off the screen you have to wait for the phone to refresh and then it jumps back down to the bottom and starts climbing again. The GPS hack is the way a normal GPS works. It's one of my favorite hacks.
I implemented bored's gps fix on my Verizon xv6850 (still on stock ROM). For some reason it takes varying time (1-5 minutes) to fix on satellites. Once it's fixed it works as well with TomTom 7 on the XV6850 as my GlobalSat BT-359 does with TomTom 6 on by xv6700. This was a pleasant surprise - I didn't know the Touch Pro had built in GPS at the time I bought it! This phone impresses me more each day. I also installed Bowman's pack which includes HTC YouTube from the Diamond along with Live Search and the new Google Maps.
I got this to work on a stock verizon phone but it is a pain in the butt with the rainy weather to get a lock and the thought of changing the prl kinda scares me. Is there, in that 29 page thread, something about enabling agps so I can use tom tom SORTA acturatly like I did with my vx6800? Has anyone attempted this? Thanks.
lllbordedlll issued phase two of this project....its now easier to install.
No need to even use QPST to edit service provider name etc...
now you only have to do steps 6 thru 13 as follows:
6. Install lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab
7. use gsfinder, total commander or File Explorer to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe
8. reset your device as needed
9. Dial *228 option 1
(the above step is the steps I did, option 2 also works but I needed to prove it takes a full update without rewriting data)
10. reset your device
11. Install HTC GPS Tool if needed
12. I would suggest a soft reset... do what you want on this one
13. Open up HTC GPS Tool. Set Chip to Q 7500 and mode to Cold Start (left soft key for those who dont know) then set baud to 4800 and open port.
But it does work very well....I am very happy with it.
