With the new screen resolution, has anyone played with this yet? If so, can you please let me know which programs you use to convert the DVD, which settings, and which program you use to play the file with on the phone? I always wanted to do this on the Mogul but couldn't ever perfect it.
I used some software from Cucusoft and it seems to work ok. I tried playing the file back via Windows Media Player and it was good but a little choppy for me. I downloaded TCPMP and it plays a little bit better but it's still a little bit choppy. Any other suggestions?
I use Fairuse ... but you have to compress fairly aggressively (~500 mb or so for a movie is about the edge of smooth play I've seen). Currently no one has player code that makes efficient use of the TP's graphics accelerator so even the best performing player (I use TCPMP) will have occasional skips or slowdowns in a file at that bitrate. But it is very watchable.

I use ¤¤ Pocket PC Movies Video Software which will work with WMP or Core. You can customize the frame rate, screen size, resolution, audio quality, pretty much anything you need.
Try the free trial out (same link).

You Copycat, that's what I posted above!

I use about three different ones depending on format I'm converting from, what I'm doing, and how soon I need it. I predominately use Mobiola Studio because I can take .avi files from bittorrent and convert them quickly (about 15min for a full length movie). I strip them down to about 408 fps to get rid of the splotchyness.
If I want to rip a dvd, I'll typically use Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4 or Blaze Media Pro. Xilisoft seems to be a bit more fluent in the conversion from DVD format to .wmv format. Blaze is cool too, I just tend to use Xilisoft. I think it is only about 5-7 minutes quicker. Blaze tends to use a few more system resources and since I never stop seeding or leeching, it sometimes will degrade my system performance. If you don't have anything running in the background then either will be on par.
Xilisoft or Blaze can be gotten from your favorite BT site. Mobiola is a purchase. I think I paid $29.99 for it through Handmark's website. Well worth the loot IMHO. Mate that with a 16Gb card and you'll be able to carry your music collection, photo collection, and about 21 movies or so. At least that is what I can do. The key is to strip the FPS (frames per second) down to around the 400 range. Since Mobiola has a sliding bar to do this I tend to get it between the 381 and 408 range.
Has anyone found the happy medium to make tv out watchable (not skipping, but not crappy looking). I figure if they look good on tvout they will look fine on the device as well - so I want to just encode everything to that level. Suggestions? I am looking for resolution, fps, format, and player. Currently, I use tcpmp with mixed results at higher res.
