How do these phones compare to the Unlocked International version?
Like mmatarella, I've been a faithful user of the VZW's i730 since its release over 3 years ago. I love that phone. Sure, by current standards it's BIG, but it does everything I need it to. I'm a computer consultant, and really love the remote desktop functionality to manage servers when I'm not physically on site, Slingbox, Bluetooth Modem (even on my Mac), etc....
Now my phone is OLD! I need a new one and have been waiting for something that takes it to a new level. I've been reading all the posts, I can find, on this phone, here and other places. But, I haven't been able to find a comparison of the TP from Verizon/Sprint/ATT versions and the international unlocked version. The international version appears to be what is actually advertised on HTC's web site.
I'm considering purchasing the international version. I know it won't connect w/ Verizon or Sprint, as it's GSM and not CDMA. From my research, ATT would have the best HiSpeed connection for GSM. I also like the fact that you don't have to hack the phone to get the functionality that's been limited by the US carriers. I've talked to 2nd and 3rd lvl Tech Support person at ATT and they both have been able to get the international phone %100 up and running on their network.
Besides, I like the non-branded look and actual "Diamond" back to the phone
Does anyone have any compare and contrast opinions on the US carrier's phones vs. the international version?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Edit:
The TP is the only phone I've really been researching. Nothing else, I've heard of, has all the capabilities of the i730 + and bells 'n whistles (like the FM radio.) If you can suggest a comparable phone, I'm all ears.
THX!

I've got the Fuze on AT&T and find it works just fine. I'm not a fan of TouchFlo, so I've replaced that with SPB MobileShell, PocketPlus, and PhoneSuite and love the speed. Very pleased with the upgrade from the TyTN II and that from my i730.
The integrated GPS works nicely and is a great addition. Garmin Mobile XT was worth the investment.
Personally, I wouldn't put much stock in the results. Sprint's had their version out the longest, which would generate more votes since it's a self-selecting survey. And the GSM phones don't get as much traffic here as the CDMA phones, so AT&T is likely to be underrepresented.
The customizations of the two are different in terms of software load, but they're functionally the same device with the exception of the dedicated number row on the Sprint version. And with GSM being the more predominant standard around the world, I expect you'll see more interesting ROM development on the GSM versions of the phone that might or might not work for the CDMA versions.
Now if the voters had all used all three, I'd find the results more interesting.
Not sure if this is the best thread to post on... so I apologize if I am off topic.
I currently use the AT&T Tilt/HTC TyTN II, and I qualify for an upgrade discount if I renew with AT&T (there is no CDMA access where I spend most of my time, so AT&T is really the only carrier option...). Overall, I am happy with the Tilt, but I am definitely itching to try something new...
My question is this: Is the Fuze/HTC Touch Pro enough of an upgrade to justify using my discount, or should I hold out for a potential new release during the second half of the year?
I currently have the Sprint pro, while my pops has a fuze.....i have to say, I like the look and form factor of my dad's fuze much better than mine, and the volume toggle button in particular feels much more quality on the fuze. Certain apps like the youtube app with sprint can be unlocked on the fuze.....also the battery life IS superior on the fuze than the pro.
HOWEVER, the sprint pro's touch screen is FAR more responsive than the fuze....my dad hates the lack of responsiveness of the screen....but that's his only qualm...
all things considered.....i think the FUZE wins.....and I work for sprint, so that's pretty objective of me, no?
