Tips and Tricks for the PRO. Read First Before Posting.

Couple of things to keep in mind BEFORE posting to this thread:

1. This thread is for solutions/tips/tricks ONLY!! It is NOT for asking random questions or troubleshooting technical problems with your Diamond. If you are contributing a tip/trick, please try to include a link to the thread (where applicable) that is discussing that particular topic.

2. If you have a question regarding a hack/tip/trick posted in this thread, do not post it here. All the hacks/tips/tricks posted in this thread should have their own dedicated threads in the forum so you should locate that thread and post to it. If you search and cannot find it, start a new thread.

3. If you have an unrelated, specific issue you need resolved, you should search the forum for a relevant thread and post in that thread. If you cannot find one, then start a new thread. If you post a problem to this thread asking for troubleshooting assistance, we will delete it without notice. This thread is ONLY for posting Diamond tips and tricks that you feel other people will find useful, nothing more.

4. AGAIN, this thread is NOT for asking questions of ANY type! It is simply for people to post tips and tricks about the Diamond. If you post a question or respond to someone who posted a question, YOUR POST WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE! These strict rules are necessary in order to keep this thread readable for others.

5. If someone posts a tip/trick that is not correct, feel free to post a correction. We will subsequently edit the post in question to reflect the correction (We will try our best to give you credit) and then remove your post so that all information on that particular tip/trick is kept together in a single post.

Lightbulb How to change your default Today Screen

You might have notice that if you go to start and select TODAY -
your phone will default to the Phone Screen for TOUCH-FLO.

To change your Today Screen, back to the basic Today Screen for WM do the following...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Choose Today
  • Click on the Items tab
  • Uncheck TouchFLO 3D
  • Choose ANY of the other items you would like to have on your today screen.

To reenable TouchFLO, just repeat the steps above and check TouchFLO 3D.
Also note, you can change the themes [colors] on the Appearance tab.

Hope this helps...

This is an example of the Video-Out feature being displayed on a Sprint HTC Touch PRO.
The equivalent would be the same on the Alltel Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze, Telus Touch Pro & Verizon XV6850.
Video Rendering is
720x480 & 720p HD.
woo...hoo

Lightbulb How to adjust your font size, including START menu

You may have noticed very LARGE font size on the Today Screen on the PRO.
Here's how to change that...

  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Screen
  • Click on the Text Size tab
  • Adjust to the size you desire

Bonus : Your Start Menu might also have LARGE font, this is an option with
TouchFLO. Here's how to adjust that as well to small font:
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose TouchFLO
  • Uncheck Enable large Start menu

Reg Edit:
This changes the font size in the menus:

Under HKLM\system\gwe\menu\popfnt\Ht
change 1000 to 800 or even 700.

And there ya go, all nice and neat again.

Enjoy

Lightbulb How to adjust your Power Settings to Save Battery Life

Otay, this one is a dosey for me. On about 3rd day of use, fully charged several times - I'm getting better results with each charge.
So thought I'd share some changes I made which might be helpful...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Power
  • Click on the Backlight tab
  • Uncheck Auto adjust backlight
  • Adjust Power Save bar on battery to save more on power

Also, the following can't hurt as well...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Power
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Check Turn off backlight if device is not used for
  • Reduce the number of minutes [Drop down menu] to a lower number

Whelp, that should do it. Remember, it might take a couple of full charges [it's better to charge the phone by AC adapter than connected to computer via USB], the first couple of go arounds to assure the battery is ready for PRIME TIME.

Hope this helps...
Enjoy

Lightbulb How to lock your PRO automatically using TouchFLO 3D

Otay, here's what I did (Btw, I posted a fix on changing your Today Screen as well... )

The cheapest way to do this would be to set the device to auto lock from
the settings menu. You can control the mins until lock down.
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on Lock
Here you can set a password & set a time when your device will lock. These setting will also be used with your Corp Exchange Server.

If you have purchased Spb's Mobile Shell Spb Mobile Shell » Products » Spb Software House [There's a trial version as well],
you might remember it has a setting that allows the NOW screen to show when the device is locked.
Pretty Cool...

I had some concerns about compatiblity, but after a bit of a rough start - seems
to have settle down with both TouchFLO 3D running (forefront), and Spb Mobile Shell running in the background.

Here's some neat benefits (I'm current watching the battery affect of both running), but so far pretty good
[Please note: might reduce battery life with both running]
  • You can set some of the menus of Spb Mobile Shell within TouchFLO's program section which gives you quick access to tools, pictures etc...
Including locking the device immediately from the tools menu in Spb Mobile Shell. You can even do a soft boot from this same Spb Tool menu!!!

  • If you're tired of TouchFLO 3D, you can turn it off and enjoy the benefits of Mobile Shell. And back on again if you like.

  • Prevents you from accidently dialing your friend, over and over again

  • But most importantly, the device will lock automatically after a set time and give you a neat Spb screen during idle time.

Saving the Best for LAST...

This is very neat program that I think you will like tremendously -
and it just got updated just in time for the release of the diamond PRO.
Even better, it's TOTALLY FREEWARE. Although, donations are welcome and well deserved.
A_C S2 Applications for Windows Mobile

Be sure to download the VGA version w/ the clockpack if you have the diamond PRO or a device that has a VGA screen.
Awesome feature ware, to many to name but sure to meet your needs...

Just a little something from my neck of the woods...

Enjoy

They talked a little about this in the Diamond posts but not this extent. Press and hold the send button which is defaulted to voice command and you can say things like:

"Open media player"
"play Iron Maiden"
"Pause"
"Next track"
"what is my battery strength"
"Open Live Search"
"Flight mode On"

and probably many other things that we have yet to learn.

Running your finger around the outer edge of the raised center circle does things in different programs. In Opera, it zooms in and out. In camera, it also zooms.

Long Press End Key Options

On the Touch Pro (at least on the Sprint version) there should be a control panel that you get to by going to Start/Settings/System called "Long Press End Key" where you can set what the End key does when held down. One of the options is to lock the device. It uses the built in device lock that does not require a password. I find this to be a very handy feature.

Here is the full list of options for the "Long Press End Key"
  • Always Display the Quick List
  • Automatically execute the selected
    action:
  • Turn Airplane mode on/off
  • Lock Device
  • Terminate data connection
  • Set Vibrate/Ringer
I might set it to the quick list that way when I hold down the end key I have the whole list of options to choose from.

If you don't use TF3D you can put the Device Lock bar on the today screen - tap the bar and the device locks (in the same fashion as the long-hold end key does above)

Opera - Make it appear to be a desktop browser

A direct copy/paste from how to get Opera and IE to think i'm on a desktop pc - PPCGeeks
I changed the value to 3. The MSN page always came up in the mobile version before this change. I tested it after the change and it worked. There are tons of settings in config. It looks like cache can be moved to the storage card. I haven't tried that yet. I am getting happier.

In the address bar, type in

about:config
scroll down on the page to item User Agent and click on it.
It says Spoof user agent ID

1 is Opera Mobile 9.5
2 is Firefox
3 is desktop IE 6

and also need to change the custom user agent from
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP

to Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT)

Tweaks from XDA's site.

Original posting:

[REF][UPDATED 09/08]List of Diamond Tweaks - xda-developers

I have used most of these with good results. there are some device lock options as well.

1. Boost TFL3D Performance --> Using Advanced Config, change File system cache to 8mb and file system filter cache to 131072

2. Boost TFL3D Performance --> HKLM\System\Storagemanager\Fatfs and change key Cachesize from 16384 to 32768

3. Wake Up on New SMS --> HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL : DisableSMSWakeUpEvent <-- set to "1" by default. Change value to "0"

4. Switch Mute Call on phone flipped face down: HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : FaceDownMuteRing: change value to "1" (FIXED: thanks KuKuRiKu and everyone)

5. Change CallWaiting Tone --> HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : by default set to \windows\waitingtone.wav by default. change to anything else

6. Boost TFL3D Scrolling Speed --> - HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 16384 or 32768 (DWORD decimal)
- To change it back to the default: - HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 8192 (DWORD decimal)

7. To do a Hard Reset, with the phone ON, hold down the Volume Down and Enter (round navigation) keys and press soft reset while they are pressed

8. Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)
AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0

9. Downlod original CONTENT folder (Wallpaper, VIDEO, MUSIC) here http://rapidshare.com/files/12127104...orage.rar.html

10. Set HTC Album X button to close not minimize:ok_minimize change value to 0

11. Disable Enlarged Title bar (when you click on a notification) to the default WM behavior: HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar - and change "Enable" from 1 to 0.

12. Turn off startup aninmation and sound: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\ -> rename both "StartupGif" and "StartupWav" to other names

13. Enable GPS photo: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P10 -> change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1

15. Another supposed TFL3D tweak for better performance: HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings:
SpeedHigh: default value (25) <-- Change to (5) / SpeedLow : default value (70) <-- Chnge to (14) save and soft reset

16. Adjust screen sensitivity: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel
Value = PressureThreshold
Change from the default dword:00000027 or 34 to dword:000000f0 or 240 in decimal

17. Lightsensor Switching the Screen off- realised by yelitterulez, confirmed by pietrucci and tested by myself. When making a call the screen stays on if you leave the phone lying flat on a table. If you wait 10 seconds into the call, you can pick it up to your ear and the screen stays on.

BUT if you make a call with the phone slightly tilted/ slanted (you get the idea), the screen turns off as soon as the call gets connected!
The moment you hold the phone to your head the blacklight turns off. In fact: the moment you hide the screen with anything it turns off! (try your hand...).
This might be the reason why everybody's complaining about the screen turning off during a call: you hold the phone to your head! When you turn the screen back on manually, it stays on no matter if you hold your hand or head...

18. Automatically lock your Diamond --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off the device is locked

19. More Camera Modes:
To Enable 'Burst': HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P6 -> change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1

To Enable 'Sport': HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P8 -> change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1

To Enable 'Video Share': HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P9 -> change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1

20. Delay device autolock: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockTimeout -> Change the Dword value (30 = 30 seconds, etc)

21. Enable Manual Screen Rotation (Portrait/Landscape): HKLM - System - GDI - Rotation - HideOrientationUI (change from 1 to 0)

22. Hide SIM Contacts: HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone - create a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0

23. Show Weekday in TFL3D (thanks to pulp) - download and install RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

24. Enable HSUPA:
HKLM\Software\HTC\AdvancedNetwork\SupportHSUPA =change it to 1

25. Enable Audio Booster without headset-->HKLM/System/State/Hardware/Headset set the value to 1 (soft reset will bring it back to 0)

26. Add a Call History tab to TF3D (discovered by sushilange, spread by Fabliv) --> [Updated 26/07 2:00 pm] Add a Call History Tab in your TF3D Original (HTC) .CAB - xda-developers

27. Add new Cities to TF3D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408918 - thanks to R. DevilR

28. Remove orphan icons and shortcuts
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...97&postcount=3

29. Four icons in a row in WM Programs/Settings screens - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=16

30. Remove Vertical and Horizontal Scrollbars
For the horizontal (bottom) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cyHScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)
For the vertical (right) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)

31. Remap Manila softkeys:
HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/
HomeLSKPath, which is the left softkey (Standard = Phonepad)
And
HomeRSKPath, which is the right softkey.
If you change these with the location of the programs you want to link to, and simultaneous change the names:
HomeLSKText = Left softkey text
And
HomeRSKText = Right softkey text.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum :

32. Change system and context menu font size:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\gwe\menu\popfnt
and change the value for the "Ht" entry to "1000" decimal (from 1200)

33. Increase maximum picture size when shooting in Burst and Sports mode:
When activating "burst" and "sport" the max size of the pictures is "L" but if you change:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P8\MainCamCaptSize value to 1024
and
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P8\MainCamSupportCaptSize to 1744Do the same for P6 and you can now shoot in these modes up to 3M and not just L - thanks to nnevynn for

I learned the following on another PPCGeeks, might be found useful by someone here as well.

Change Menu Text Size
HKLM\system\gwe\menu\popfnt\Ht (change 1000 to 800 or even 700)

Add "Mark All As Read" option back to the Messaging Menus
Download This Cab

Regular Windows CTRL Commands on the TP

I don't know if this was the case on my Mogul, but on the PRO, if you want to cut and paste with the keyboard, you can do it just like on a Windows computer. Highlight the word then hold CTRL and press X then move curser and hold CTRL and press V to paste. CTRL C for copy. CTRL Z for undo. Just like on our computers.

Change "Reply All" Softkey in Outlook back to "Reply":

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Services\OutlookEnhancement

set module to an empty string

To revert, set module to "\\windows\\OutlookEnhancement.dll"

Many of these hacks can be quickly made with the following GUI application.

To Enable 'Video Share': HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P9 -> change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1

20. Delay device autolock: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockTimeout -> Change the Dword value (30 = 30 seconds, etc)

21. Enable Manual Screen Rotation (Portrait/Landscape): HKLM - System - GDI - Rotation - HideOrientationUI (change from 1 to 0)

For the horizontal (bottom) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cyHScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)
For the vertical (right) scrollbar:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr = 0 (DWORD decimal)

31. Remap Manila softkeys:
HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/

And
HomeRSKText = Right softkey text.

Gesture on the X button does not work for SPB Pocket Plus unless you turn off the following setting:
Start
Settings
System tab
TouchFLO
TouchFLO tab
Show System Status screen when status icons are tapped

When that setting is on, it appears it filters all taps on the window bar and so Pocket Plus thinks that the Gesture just looks like a regular tap.

If you're using Verizon's Wireless Sync, TouchFLO 3D will refuse to look at the Outlook Email account. The solution is to go into the settings for Outlook Email and configure a bogus server Just don't try to manually sync with "Send/Receive". It'll eventually time out I guess. Here are my settings:

Email Address: <enter your own>
Attempt to detect...: not checked

Server address: pop

User name: Jeff
Password:
Domain: jeff

E-mail: checked

Whatever you do, don't do this!!!!!

It will occassionally pop up asking you to correct your exchange server settings. You can't clear them, and turning off the E-mail checkbox will delete all your email from the device and from the wireless sync server and from the exchange server wireless sync is getting its email from. Luckily it was all still in the deleted folder.

If you switch from the "Full QWERTY" SIP to CalliGrapher's "Write Anywhere" SIP, shift is left pressed, regardless of the shift key's actual status in "Full QWERTY" and regardless of pressing and repressing the shift key in "Write Anywhere"'s keyboard.

To work around this, first change to the "Keyboard" SIP, then to the "Write Anywhere" SIP. [Edit: I'm sure this worked once, but it doesn't work for me anymore. There must be something else I did that made it to start working, but I haven't been able to figure out what.]

This is on the Verizon version. I don't know if others have the same bug or not.
