Tips and Tricks for the PRO. Read First Before Posting.

Couple of things to keep in mind BEFORE posting to this thread:

1. This thread is for solutions/tips/tricks ONLY!! It is NOT for asking random questions or troubleshooting technical problems with your Diamond. If you are contributing a tip/trick, please try to include a link to the thread (where applicable) that is discussing that particular topic.

2. If you have a question regarding a hack/tip/trick posted in this thread, do not post it here. All the hacks/tips/tricks posted in this thread should have their own dedicated threads in the forum so you should locate that thread and post to it. If you search and cannot find it, start a new thread.

3. If you have an unrelated, specific issue you need resolved, you should search the forum for a relevant thread and post in that thread. If you cannot find one, then start a new thread. If you post a problem to this thread asking for troubleshooting assistance, we will delete it without notice. This thread is ONLY for posting Diamond tips and tricks that you feel other people will find useful, nothing more.

4. AGAIN, this thread is NOT for asking questions of ANY type! It is simply for people to post tips and tricks about the Diamond. If you post a question or respond to someone who posted a question, YOUR POST WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE! These strict rules are necessary in order to keep this thread readable for others.

5. If someone posts a tip/trick that is not correct, feel free to post a correction. We will subsequently edit the post in question to reflect the correction (We will try our best to give you credit) and then remove your post so that all information on that particular tip/trick is kept together in a single post.

Lightbulb How to change your default Today Screen

You might have notice that if you go to start and select TODAY -
your phone will default to the Phone Screen for TOUCH-FLO.

To change your Today Screen, back to the basic Today Screen for WM do the following...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Choose Today
  • Click on the Items tab
  • Uncheck TouchFLO 3D
  • Choose ANY of the other items you would like to have on your today screen.

To reenable TouchFLO, just repeat the steps above and check TouchFLO 3D.
Also note, you can change the themes [colors] on the Appearance tab.

Hope this helps...

This is an example of the Video-Out feature being displayed on a Sprint HTC Touch PRO.
The equivalent would be the same on the Alltel Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze, Telus Touch Pro & Verizon XV6850.
Video Rendering is
720x480 & 720p HD.
woo...hoo

Lightbulb How to adjust your font size, including START menu

You may have noticed very LARGE font size on the Today Screen on the PRO.
Here's how to change that...

  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Screen
  • Click on the Text Size tab
  • Adjust to the size you desire

Bonus : Your Start Menu might also have LARGE font, this is an option with
TouchFLO. Here's how to adjust that as well to small font:
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose TouchFLO
  • Uncheck Enable large Start menu

Reg Edit:
This changes the font size in the menus:

Under HKLM\system\gwe\menu\popfnt\Ht
change 1000 to 800 or even 700.

And there ya go, all nice and neat again.

Enjoy

Lightbulb How to adjust your Power Settings to Save Battery Life

Otay, this one is a dosey for me. On about 3rd day of use, fully charged several times - I'm getting better results with each charge.
So thought I'd share some changes I made which might be helpful...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Power
  • Click on the Backlight tab
  • Uncheck Auto adjust backlight
  • Adjust Power Save bar on battery to save more on power

Also, the following can't hurt as well...
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on the System tab
  • Choose Power
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Check Turn off backlight if device is not used for
  • Reduce the number of minutes [Drop down menu] to a lower number

Whelp, that should do it. Remember, it might take a couple of full charges [it's better to charge the phone by AC adapter than connected to computer via USB], the first couple of go arounds to assure the battery is ready for PRIME TIME.

Hope this helps...
Enjoy

Lightbulb How to lock your PRO automatically using TouchFLO 3D

Otay, here's what I did (Btw, I posted a fix on changing your Today Screen as well... )

The cheapest way to do this would be to set the device to auto lock from
the settings menu. You can control the mins until lock down.
  • Click on Start [Menu]
  • Choose Setting
  • Click on Lock
Here you can set a password & set a time when your device will lock. These setting will also be used with your Corp Exchange Server.

If you have purchased Spb's Mobile Shell Spb Mobile Shell » Products » Spb Software House [There's a trial version as well],
you might remember it has a setting that allows the NOW screen to show when the device is locked.
Pretty Cool...

I had some concerns about compatiblity, but after a bit of a rough start - seems
to have settle down with both TouchFLO 3D running (forefront), and Spb Mobile Shell running in the background.

Here's some neat benefits (I'm current watching the battery affect of both running), but so far pretty good
[Please note: might reduce battery life with both running]
  • You can set some of the menus of Spb Mobile Shell within TouchFLO's program section which gives you quick access to tools, pictures etc...
Including locking the device immediately from the tools menu in Spb Mobile Shell. You can even do a soft boot from this same Spb Tool menu!!!

  • If you're tired of TouchFLO 3D, you can turn it off and enjoy the benefits of Mobile Shell. And back on again if you like.

  • Prevents you from accidently dialing your friend, over and over again

  • But most importantly, the device will lock automatically after a set time and give you a neat Spb screen during idle time.

Saving the Best for LAST...

This is very neat program that I think you will like tremendously -
and it just got updated just in time for the release of the diamond PRO.
Even better, it's TOTALLY FREEWARE. Although, donations are welcome and well deserved.
A_C S2 Applications for Windows Mobile

Be sure to download the VGA version w/ the clockpack if you have the diamond PRO or a device that has a VGA screen.
Awesome feature ware, to many to name but sure to meet your needs...

Just a little something from my neck of the woods...

Enjoy

They talked a little about this in the Diamond posts but not this extent. Press and hold the send button which is defaulted to voice command and you can say things like:

"Open media player"
"play Iron Maiden"
"Pause"
"Next track"
"what is my battery strength"
"Open Live Search"
"Flight mode On"

and probably many other things that we have yet to learn.

Running your finger around the outer edge of the raised center circle does things in different programs. In Opera, it zooms in and out. In camera, it also zooms.

Long Press End Key Options

On the Touch Pro (at least on the Sprint version) there should be a control panel that you get to by going to Start/Settings/System called "Long Press End Key" where you can set what the End key does when held down. One of the options is to lock the device. It uses the built in device lock that does not require a password. I find this to be a very handy feature.

Here is the full list of options for the "Long Press End Key"
  • Always Display the Quick List
  • Automatically execute the selected
    action:
