Questions for those who have had this phone for a while!
1) Have any of you tried watching movies, tv shows, etc., that you have downloaded from your Tivo or computer. How is the picture quality? I have read in a few of the reviews that watching video in the full resolution of the screen makes for a poor experience with noticeable, flicker, etc.
2) Does this phone sync with Outlook? I'm coming off a ppc 6800 if I bought this phone and really have come to like the task manager function. If it doesn't, does it have something similar?
The only other thing I am concerned about is occasional tethering, but after having done a search it seems like it is possible.
2) Yes, it will sync with Outlook with no problems (contacts and calendar at least...I don't use Outlook for mail) through ActiveSync/whatever Vista's program is.
I also have used the tethering without trouble as well, just make sure to open Modem Link and start it before connecting to your PC
1. when you convert movies make sure they are converted properly to the device's resolution. there are movie/video converters out there that will format the movies so they play properly. now if the video's source is garbage, then there is not much you can do to clean that up. so start with a good source of video and you wont h ave any issues with video playback...
Don't know about tv or movies. The Youtube app is pretty cool though. However, I upgraded from the 6800 which I liked when I got it, but the TP2 is such a huge improvement I would not hesitate.

Do you happen to know if it syncs with Outlooks task manager?
I assume you are using an external program to tether? I assume Sprint isn't going to have a built in tethering program.

Cool, thanks. Can you recommend a good converter? I think when I get this phone this will be the first time I'll actually try it.
I have done all of the above, as I still use Outlook (I may be the only one) as one more way to back up. I have had issues with phones in the past not wanting to sync for some reason (the worst was my TP), but I have had absolutely no issues with the TP2 on either Vista or Windows 7.
I use pdanet to tether. It is an app that runs on the phone and the PC and makes your carrier think the traffic is from your PC is just traffic from your phone's browser.
There are a TON of video converters. I use one called Sompy movie encoder - it is free and works well. They sell a movie player that sucks on the device so I would avoid that and stick with either Core player or Kinoma Player. Just like Marc said -just match the pixels to your resolution and maybe slightly lower the framerate - then use high quality audio so you do not get the hum - and there you go. Lately I just DL the movie via torrent in a mobile size in the first place along wiith the full-size copy. Much easier because you just crowd-sourced the conversion.

Thanks, I'll take a look at those. So if I convert movies, TV shows, etc., to 480x800 it works pretty well, huh? With Core or Kinoma, what's your opinion of how video looks? Can you get frame rates at 480x800 (the screen's resolution) that are smooth and I guess "pleasant" to watch? My buddy has an iPhone 3Gs and when he puts a movie from his personal library on the iPhone, it's as smooth as watching it on TV and I think he's running at 480 x 320. I'm hoping it will be the same for the Touch Pro 2.
yes it will be the same as on the TP2. its all about you encode the video in the first place. just go out NOW and get the phone!!
He-he, yeah, I think I'm going to do that very soon. I'm just trying to make sure that I'm going to like this device before I drop $400 on it. I've been extremely disappointed with the supposed "iPhone killers" Sprint has added to their line up over the past year or so, and I don't want to get screwed. Unfortunately, all the cell phone stores are sold out and I can't lay hands on one, so I'm relying on this forum and some uTube videos for guidance......I do appreciate the forum's collective input and patience!
I may get one and be with you guys again, if they ever come back in stock. But it's between this first or the Palm Pre. The TP2 with NE2 will be cheaper..but I hate the horizontal qwerty set up on any phone. It's either one or just go with an Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet and just keep using my beloved i730
