Well, I had placed a warranty call into Verizon last Thursday (10/16) since the GPS was not working, then the phone locked up and couldn't even be hard reset (by the tech at the corp store). Supposed to have received the replacement today. It never showed. Called Verizon and was told the order was canceled, and they were now out of stock. Why the rep never called me to advise, he couldn't say. Since I am near the end of the 30 day return policy, I can return it and get my NE2 reinstated, exchange for a different phone, or live with this one. Since I got this one working, after some Internet searching (btw... Verizon phones use Vol Down + Send + End + reset button to get to the factory reset menu), I might just keep this one and wait it out and see if a WM6.5 version is released. I still have the option of returning on the 30th day.
Not to really jump the sahrk, but I read that 6.5.1 (or whatever they call it) is the release to wait for. I saw some screen shots and it actually updates the UI in seemingly ALL system menus so that they look less like windows 95 and can be more easily controlled with the finger (read as bigger buttons, pretty colors). I really like mine with 6.1 - it is already a GREAT device and so I will hold out I think for something that actually changes the device before I upgrade. I use tf3d so titanium does nothing for me, and I do not use PIE so the new version of that does nothing for me as well. Check out the 6.5.1 pics - this is something I would consider...in 6 months or so when it comes out.
I will agree that the TP2 is the best thing to happen to me since my i760 lost its 7 key. I put mobileshell 3.5 and I think I like it very much.
My TP2 came with a bad, crackling earpiece speaker. I have been waiting weeks (my 30 days trial expires today) for a replacement. They told me Monday that they had it, and shipped it out. I received an Imagio instead. Dopes.
I called about the Imagio mix-up, and I was told today that the TP2 was officially DISCONTINUED by VZW. I asked what my status of receiving a replacement was, and the tech guy could not tell me. He assured me that regardless of what happened, I could return the TP2 if I could not acquire a replacement. Now I am stuck with the decision of keep an awesome (so far) TP2 with the bad earpiece and hope for no future problems, try out the Imagio (no slide out) or go back to the i760 less a key and hope for something better to finally come along. This is crap. Why can't life be simpler?
boy is this confusing. I am an i760 owner waiting for the TP2 in WM6.5. And reading this note makes no sense in what VZW is doing. If they have diminished inventory for the release of 6.5 they should just send a bulletin and let their agents know so there is no confusion.
But if they are telling their customers that the TP2 has been "discontinued" that will confuse the hell out of most non-web savvy business customers of this phone.
I spoke with my Business Accounts Manager today about the TouchPro 2 and after being on hold for a few minutes while she made some phone calls, was told that the next shipment of TP2 is still sitting in US Customs and they don't know when they'll be released. The phone is definitely still available she says.

Sounds like the opening scenes from Rain Man!

I guess maybe people thought I was venting when I said their procurement dept. is run by chimps. I am not kidding. I have been with Verizon since before it was called Verizon and I can tell you in the last decade they have never gotten it right. That department (among others) is staffed by morons.
Don't believe anything you hear about supply on this phone. One person will tell you one thing (phone is discontinued) and the next guy will tell you something completely different.
The only thing Verizon has going for it is that their customer service is pretty good and the network is good. I guess these are very important factors but it can still be very frustrating waiting for a device while all your Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile friends have had theirs for weeks.
My advice is, take a breath and relax and expect another two months to go by before everybody who wants one gets to order one. Just make do with your present devices because it will be a while before Verizon purchasing gets its head out of its ass and orders the right amount to meet demand - if ever.
My 2 cents.....

Thanks Leemcc... I was starting to believe in the black helicopters out my window! You echo what I hear from my more reliable sources. I've seen VZW version phones pretty quickly before.. but not in four months. Especially when this one is being positioned as their flagship Biz PDA phone.
Just wait'n for my number to come up...

To answer your question about the i760 - yes it was in some stores for a very brief period and I am glad you mentioned that. The reason is because the i760 deployment has many parallels to the TP2 deployment.
I got the i760 within a week or so of it first coming out. I loved my ugly phone and I still do today. Parting with it will be hard so I will probably enshrine it somewhere. Even though the i760 was a superior phone at the time, Verizon never rolled it out in a widespread manner. It was often sold out, rarely did you see it in stores, and for months at a time it would be pulled from the website altogether.
Just when most people would speculate that Verizon had pulled the plug on the i760 it would reappear on the website and then disappear again. Finally many months ago they started selling it at a cut rate to burn off the remaining supply of phones.
The weird part was that the i760 was never super popular. No one was waiting in line to get one except us geeks and EVEN THEN Verizon underestimated the supply needed to meet demand.
Does this defy logic? Yes. Like my daddy used to say, if you see something or someone working against logic its probably because they don't know what it is to begin with.
But if we assume for one moment that there is some logic behind holding back a potentially hot selling product I can only see three reasons why they would do so.....
a) To divert attention away from the device towards more consumer friendly phones already available - like the Imagio or even feature phones like the Rogue or Env Touch.
b) Verizon may have a huge backlog of older phones like the Omnia that they are trying to unload so they don't take big losses on the hardware. Right now they are practically giving away the older HTC Touch and Omnia phones.
c) To hold us geeks at bay with dollars in hand, until they release other products like the Motorola Droid phone. (Droid -- Engadget Mobile)
Those three are maybe some of the logical reasons why you would hold back a hot seller, but I don't really believe any of that. I stand by my proven position that chimps and other lower life forms run the procurement dept. and always have.

Or it could simply be they underestimated demand. Most things in China take about 30-60 days to produce and then another 30 days on the boat.
Verizon is losing business customers to the iPhone EVERYDAY. I highly doubt they would intentionally be holding back the best business phone they have had in years. I don't think the TP2 will appeal to normal Verizon customers. It is a business phone.
jcb193, thats basically just what I said. I don't believe there is a tangible reason why they are holding the phone back. I think the chimps in procurement just didn't order enough and have not followed up properly after the problem was realized.

I had been waiting for the TP2, but I'm kind of glad now that I didn't grab one early. The new android based phones look interesting, including the Motorola Droid. However, since I've seen 'Sense' demoed, I think I'll wait for an HTC phone on VZW that has it, whether it be Windows based or Android based. As long as I haven't jumped though, my opinion could be swayed. (I'm sure an HD2 is WAY too much to hope for from VZW though)
I'm not really fond of the droid phone because it does not have an offset keyboard and the D-pad makes you reach farther with your right hand than you do with your left - which can be a pain after a while.
One additional comment about supplies on the TP2. I work in wholesale and contract with companies in China for cellular accessories and phones. It does not take 30-60 days to produce phones and another 30 to deliver. It takes the average manufacturer in china 14 days to requisition an order of phones and another 14 to deliver through customs.
Verizon had every opportunity to order more in the time frame involved but they didn't.

...and here I sit in Shanghai, China, wistfully thinking of the TP2 I saw yesterday at the electronics store. It's EXACTLY what I need (the SIM card built in would stop me from the two-phone-juggle when overseas). But then, it was 4500 RMB (about $650), and with the 2 year upgrade I'm eligible for, that's $400 I could put elsewhere...
C'mon, Verizon (ne McCaw Cellular back when I started with you), get it right!
I'm ready to jump ship from Window's based smartphones. The reviews of the Droid impress me enough to give it a try. It is supposed to be available through Verizon any day now.
#1). "The Touchpro 2 was a limited edition phone, we're not getting it back." It's your highest rated business phone ever, WTF?
#2.) "Definitely, 2 more weeks" (been hearing this for a month).
#3.) "You'll have to be more specific, I don't understand." Touch....Pro....2
