Anyone here upgrade from the i760 to the touchpro 2? My i760 is on its last legs but i've been holding out for the omnia 2... thinking getting the touchpro 2 now instead. Was hoping for a less bulky phone than the i760 but from the photos i can't tell if the touchpro 2 is any less bulky or not. If you happen to have both of these devices, would you mind posting some pics of the side by side? Also - would love to hear opinions from people who have used both. Thanks!
I upgraded from the i760, used it from the day it was released on VZW. The phones are very similar in overal size, however the TP2 feels smaller than it is due to the sleekness of the device.
The difference in the screens is unbelievable, the TP2 screen is more than twice the resolution and it is fantastic. On top of that the screen is flush so using your finger is much more acceptable than on the i760 with the slightly recessed screen.
The TP2 is also much faster at everything, especially the 3G connection since it is Rev A, where as the i760 was basic EVDO. Pretty much everything about the phone is better. I have yet to find one thing that I miss about my i760 yet.
I'd recommend hanging in there till 10/6 (only a week or so now) to see what the new phones look like before jumping for the TP2.
I am a former 760 user (intermediate stop at the 770 for almost a year) who loves the TP2. I don't miss the d-pad or the front dialpad. BUT, I can see how some don't like the TP2 after having the 760. I don't think there will be a form factor like the 760 again, but you never know...
I had a 760 for about a month and was not a fan, so I may not be the right person here. I love the TP. Size is similar, battery better (1-2 days os not crappy - this is a smartphone), speed better, memory WAY better (no low memory closes for the most part). Miss the dpad but more than made up for by the HUGE screen and great resolution. I flat out hated the horrible unresponsive screen on the 760. To each his own though man.
In the end, I am very happy with my decision. I do not see a phone beating this one out until the built-in compasses and tegra processors get us to the next-gen with Winmo 7 on board. Although, patience is a virtue and on the 6th there are supposed to be a slew of new devices all shipping with 6.5 out of the gate. (the TP2 does get a free 6.5 upgrade by the way). This is the best phone I have ever had, and I have not said that since the i730.
Thanks for the responses guys.
I loved my i760 but am definitely ready to move on.
How does the TP2 compare in weight? Heavier than the i760? How about in depth? The thing i dislike most about the i760 is how thick it is. I hate carrying it in my front pocket because it bulges out so much. Anyone able to take a side by side profile pic? (I would go to the store to look at one but none of the stores near me have any)
Thanks again guys.
I have been on the TP2 for about 3 weeks, and was a solid sammy user previous to that (i600, i730, i760) and I have been pleased so far. I am having to learn how to be a touch user, but have found that the phone and interface are well designed.
Of note, it takes MUCH better pictures and I have taken some pretty amazing nature shots.
I was one of the first adopters of the i760 and it was time to switch. The screen on the i760 was losing sensitivity and the phone seemed slow. The TP2 is much faster, has a beautiful display and has usable GPS. I love it. The reviews said the TP2 seems bulky, but it is actually slimmer than the i760.
My wife didn't like it when I put the i760 in my shirt pocket, but the TP2 fits sideways in the pocket, giving a neater appearance.
I got my i760 the day it came out also... loved it. Still like it... but like my new TP2 much better. Miss the buttons from the i760, espicially the dpad but there are ways around most of the shortfalls. There's a neat HTC app for reconfiguring your keys that you can use to do some stuff with.
But the screen & memory of the TP2 really really outweigh anything I miss from the i760.
I was one of those who got lucky and was able to order the i760 before the official release. I loved that phone, but it was just too slow at the end. I have had my TP2 for over a week and I love it. With any phone, there is a learning curve. After learning some of the nuances of the TP2, I can now access most things quicker than with the i760. The HTC Touch interface is a vast improvement. And after using the Touch Pro2 Cleanup by GoodThings2Life on the PPCGeeks forum, the TPS is much snappier than the i760. The only think still can't get over is the lack of a D-pad. It slows down one hand operation and makes me hate the iPhone even more for its style influence.
I just made this switch myself and I'm not disappointed.
I loved the i760. It was very well made and did what I needed it to do (IM, multiple e-mails accounts, calandar & contacts, sync w/Microsoft Money using SPB Finance, a few games here and there). It was a solid phone with a terrific keyboard. My only complaint was the recessed screen (collecting dust/lint, mainly) when compared to the next generation of flush screens that started coming out shortly after.
When the Touch pro came out I wanted it... Similar form factor to the i760, but a flush screen and TouchFlo. That was, until I actually handled it. The keyboard hinge was a joke and felt like it would fall apart under real world use. The thing never opened squarely. Felt like brittle plastic. Screen was too small to appreciate/use TouchFlo. I passed on it.
The TP2 is a dream. The larger screen maked TouchFlo easy and practical (not to mention pretty). The unit itself feel very solid in the hand. Metal hingesand inernal frame. A well made device thats great to use in a variety of situations. Its the first handheld I've seen where web browsing is actually a realistic pssibility. You won't be disappointed IMO.
I am an i760 user who wants to upgrade. I am eyeing the TP2: its specs look good, previous i760 users seem happy with it, and MRailing is active in this forum.
The dpad issue has me worried. I use mine all the time, for example for browsing email: Next, back, up down. It is hard for me to imagine how to get this functionality without a dpad.
So how do you do these things on the TP2? Is it a finger flick? Does whatever it is practically work out OK and I just need to get used to a new method? Or is this a holdout issue?
Left and right finger flicks switch messages , up and down scrolls. Works very nicely. I would not call it a holdout. Imissed the dpad when i came from the Mogul to the TP (it was so bad on thr TP i couldnt use it) when you get used to swiping its not bad for MOST things.
there are also 4 way arrows on the on screen keyboard that I use for a few programs - mostly for jumping forqard in videos and podcasts. Other than that the screen does it all.
You can also remap other keys... most of the time I only needed the up/down arrow and 'enter' button on the DPad, so I remapped the volume controls to up/down. And the 'windows' key to 'enter'. (short press on the volumes to go up/down, long press for volume control.... then long press on windows key for enter, short press is same as before).
