Am I Missing Something Here?...

I'm sure I'm just being a lunkhead but more often than not, a lot of the time when I have the slider open doing a txt message (or anything else), I work my way back to the home screen and slide the keyboard shut while still holding the phone horizontal, the phone will shut off. I then have to turn it back on using the END button. The user manual I have is what I pulled from the HTC website. They refer to the button on the top of the phone as the power button but it does nothing for me other than apparently put the phone to "sleep". Possibly I have the wrong manual???

I've made sure I wasn't touching anything else when closing the slider.

So, am I missing something or just completely clueless. In either case any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Does the phone go through the full start up activities or does the display just wake up?

Yes, it goes through the whole start up process; Windows 6.1 screen, HTC screen, etc. Also, when the problem does happen there is no "shut down" proccess at all - the screen just goes black and that's it. That's why I was thinking it was going into sleep mode or something.

The first few times it happened I hit every button I could just to make sure it wasn't where the screen was just off or the unit in sleep mode. The only thing that brought it back was pressing and holding the end button to power it back up.

While researching I also found out that the Verizon model has had the power button moved from the top of the phone down to share the END button. The review I was reading stated the other models still have the power button on the top. I guess that would explain the manual I have.

Thanks,
Brian

Sounds to me like you have a lemon. I'd recommend you return for replacement. I use the keyboard infrequently, but have not had the symptom you are seeing.

Contacted tech support and they've never heard of a problem like this based on issues entered into their database. They'll be sending out a new replacement; only problem is none of their warehouses have any in stock with no ETA in sight - LOL.

At least the problem isn't keeping me from using the phone. Just have to remember how to hold the phone when closing the slider.
