VZ TP2 stuck in 1X

I'm curious as to the number of people having this issue. The phone will drop to 1X and never (or perhaps only very briefly) show a 3G connection. A call to *228, option 1 will sometimes correct the problem and the phone will hold 3G for a while but then revert to 1X after a few days, or in my case a couple of weeks. When it's stuck, strength of signal doesn't seem to make a difference nor does a soft reset. A user on another forum reported that he had his phone replaced because of this behavior and the replacement phone had the same issue. Any insights out there?

I had mine drop to 1X on me early last week while I was tethering. At first I assumed it was atmospheric conditions, but after 24+ hours got suspicious. Did a soft reset and it came up in 3G mode. Has been there solid for about a week since.

There are few things more subjective in this world than a cell signal.

I had the same problem. I called tech support at VZW and they had me hard reset the phone. Then I did a *22866 option. So far, no problems... keepin gmy fingers crossed.

I take that back.. it's been doing it off and on again randomly. I called Tech Support again and they stated a ticket on the issue. Anyone else having problems?

Same problem here in Atlanta.

Tech Support tried *228 (using options 1 and 2) and a few resets, and still stuck all day in 1x.

And now, just as I was posting this I tried another soft reset -- and NOW I'm back in 3G.

It does seem to be a problem with the phone (hopefully software that can be updated)

I've had it happen once since flashing a custom rom over the weekend. It seems to happen to me most often if I soft reset using the stylus as opposed to just powering down the phone.

OK, something strange just happened. I received e-mail on my phone and it vibrated to alert me, but it kept vibrating and wouldn't stop until I pressed the END button. I read the e-mail (the usual junk), and then noticed that the phone was in 3G mode. I haven't seen this in at least a week, and in fact just checked it this morning and it was in 1X - and I have not moved from my desk. I just turned off the phone and it's still in 3G. Maybe VZW fixed it and pushed an update?

Well I'm still stuck in 1xtoday in Atlanta. Yesterday I was getting the 3G intermittently. And I am in a very good signal area with plenty of VZ cell towers...

If you checked ppcgeeks tp2 forum you would see several pages on this one concern, multiple tickets to Verizon with no helpful results. As of early this am there is no solution yet.

Went to a Verizon store today to look at a Moto Droid. It was showing EV with a full signal. Right next to it was an HTC Droid Eris that was stuck in 1X. I confirmed 1X data speeds with a side by side speed test with the Moto Droid. The other HTC Eris on display was also in 1X as was an HTC Ozone (WM 6.1 Standard). The Imagio was in 3G/EV but there have been reports on the other forum of the Imagio having the same issue. Is this an HTC issue? There are reports of TP2 users having the issue with various 6.5 ROMS even after flashing the radio. Someone on the other forum located a Verizon customer service rep who was willing to take on this issue and provide his contact info:

Kevin Drakeford
kevin.drakeford@verizonwireless.com
843-566-8600 EXT 1789
Charleston, SC Call Center

If you're having this issue, please let him know the details as well as any troubleshooting you've attempted. Hopefully he can help us out. I'm about ready to jump ship for the Droid but I have an enormous investment of money and time into the WM platform and love the TP2 for the keyboard, screen and the ability to flash custom ROMS and tweaks. I'm not sure the Droid is mature yet but this data issue is likely a deal breaker for me.
