Ordered a set of batteries and charger off ebay. Generic. Seems like the standard package is the same from a few dealers. 2 Batteries, USB Cable, and Charger.
The batteries are a perfect fit but not identical. The is slight (very) difference in the plastic surround. Its does not effect the fit at all, its just cosmetic but it means you can tell them apart.
The batteries are wraped in a sticker similar to the OEM but not identical and the sticker reads htc innovations like the OEM does. So at quick glance you could mix them up.
Strange thing on the sticker is that the generic reads 3.7v 1500mAh 4.07Whr and the OEM reads 3.7v 1500mAh 5.55Whr ... is that just bad math? I thought these numbers should be the same since you would use the same formular to convert from one to the other yes?
Usb Cable is standard
Wall charger is nice. It supports USB out to charge the phone and also has a slot to charge a loose battery. Has red and blue indicator so you know when the loose battery is charged.
Only thing I would like more is something with a long cord so I could have the loose battery charging on my desk. My last dock had that and its nice. Not as portable though. This charger is smaller then some wall warts I have even though it serves a dual purpose.
I can't speak for battery life comparisons and don't know when I would have time to do anything scientific. Used 1 generic for yesterday and didn't notice a diff but my usage fluxuates heavily each day so its hard to even guess how one battery is doing much less compare 3.
But ... it didn't melt my phone! and the charger charged my OEM battery fine loose.
the watt hour ratings may be due to the cell chemistry. perhaps those cells cant sustain the nominal rating the OEM cells do.
These Chinese cells you are purchasing more than likely didn't hold up to HTC/other OEM company standards and were sold off to be reused elsewhere--hence why you are able to get two batteries for under 20 bux.
these batteries, if they would fail, would fail under high load conditions, not just sitting around. LI-IONs need to be in a STABLE environment and the reason for the high cost of quality Li-ION cells is that they MUST CONTINUALLY talk to the device to tell them their state of charge (SoC) or rate of discharge.. if one or more cells bow out and its not communicated properly, they could become unstable and leak/explode.
this is why its paramount to purchase original OEM cells on devices such as mobile phones because the environment inside the mobile device is like hell to the cells.. all those radios (BT,GSM,CDMA,wifi...) stuffed inside sitting next to each other plus the backlight of the screen and if you are using any data/RAM intensive apps such as camera or streaming video/music, that makes the environment MORE unstable which means communicating the cells status to the charging device is critical...
you may get a long run life out of these cells and if you do great! if you use them and they fail within a few months, you are still coming out ahead... so just be careful when purchasing these cheap Chinese cells...
if you desire a longer usb cord, then purchase a usb cord thats longer! any usb cord will work to charge/sync the phone....
I was on Seidio's site and they will be releasing a standard sized battery(meaning it will fit under the stock cover) in the 1750 mAh range. The price is somewhat steep though.
Strange thing on the sticker is that the generic reads 3.7v 1500mAh 4.07Whr and the OEM reads 3.7v 1500mAh 5.55Whr ... is that just bad math? I thought these numbers should be the same since you would use the same formular to convert from one to the other yes?
Interestingly enough:
I have seen a lot of 1100mAh batteries being advertised for the TP2. The wattage from an 1100mAh battery is 4.07Whr. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that someone said 'relabel these 1100 batteries as 1500'. And forgot to cheat on the wattage number.
Thanks for this info. I already have purchased two additional OEM batteries. However, because the price here is so good, and because you get all the additional stuff, I feel I can't go wrong for 17 bucks. I'm sure you felt the same way. So I ordered a set too.
Yeah, maybe today will give me the time to do a drain down test. just run a movie at full brightness until it dies then try with generic.
The OEM actually does suprisingly well for me but there are those days where a little too much browsing happens while wasting time on the train and I need a pre charged backup.
Oh, and I did't mean that I needed a long cord ... I was saying that the generic charger charges the second battery attached to the wallwart as opposed to the last charger I had which had a desktop cradle of sorts that charged the second battery.
I don't think they are "cheating". The ad plainly states "not OEM"!

If they take an 1100mAh battery and relabel it 1500mAh, that is cheating to put it mildly.
Not saying that is what they are doing, just wondering about the 1100mAhr / 4.07Whr coincidence.
i bought 2 standard batteries with mine from verizon.. gonna see if i can git the extra one in the pouch like i did with my i760... The extended battery was not able to be ordered yet, but i really didnt want the thickness of the phone to grow with it either.
I have had good luck with mine. One has a chip in the paint, though, so I covered it with tape. They seem to hold a charge pretty well, the charger is excellent, and you can't beat the price.
Well, after a bit of use I can say they do work well but I would say maybe 20% less time on charge so the 1100mah could be right. This is just my thought based on general use. I still havn't tried any battery run down program or anything. -T
