I will be making the switch from my i760 to the tp2 within the week and I actually had some questions about this new phone as far as Verizon customers are concerned does anyone have any third party software or is the phone good without it? How is the youtube app and 3g? Has anyone tested out their GPS yet?
I just set TP2 up last night. After playing with it for a while, the thing is smooth. Really smooth. I upgraded from a i760 and vx6800. For $150 this thing is a steal. The slide action is solid, but the tilt could be better, still seems a bit wobbly to me.
The screen is gorgeous, but glare-y and a fingerprint magnet. The heft of it is something crazy. It is a heavy device to carry around. Speakers and call quality are perfect. I hated the call quality on my vx6800 and the speakerphone was nonexistent. If you do alot of conference calls, the tp2 is going to be a good fit. The stock touchflo is nice, a bit clumsy to customze and i find myself fumbling around more than I should.
I have installed skyfire, but honestly, the resolution of the screen is better than what skyfire can display, so it looks terrible. I have also installed google maps, and the gps does work. I think it may be the number of cell towers in my area, but it is very approximate, probably a couple blocks off. Google maps runs really really well. The extra power is noticeable when zooming around the map.
Now I am hoping the battery is going to last me a whole day.
I took the plunge yesterday and ordered it (delivery is tomorrow) since my 6800 is now driving me crazy (screen won't turn on with the power button and have to soft reset, have to keep tapping things repeatedly to get them open, won't turn off when tapping the power button etc and I think my battery doesn't hold a full charge anymore).
I'll probably charge the TP 2 up, load programs, do hacks/tweaks and not activate it until there is a decent hardcase/holster available or the 6800 dies completely.
When I ordered the phone from Verizon the day it was released it was 299.99. If you ordered it on the internet it would have given you an instant 100.00 rebate without having to send it in. Ordering it with a sales rep it comes with a rebate form that you have to send in to get the 100 dollars off.
I was not able to order on the net because they had an issue with the phones just not showing up when you were logged into your account. Thus the sales rep gave me the $100.00 off instantly and not as a rebate just as if I was to order it online.
I also on that day received my $50.00 2up2 credit.
So the total came to:
$299.00
- 100.00 instant rebate
- 50.00 2 up 2
+ 8.37 or so taxes
0.00 overnight free shipping Saturday delivery.
----------
$158.37 Total paid on the 11th.
After reading that many of you received $100.00 credit for 2 up 2 I called them them back today complained that I didn't get $100.00 for 2 up 2 and I've been a customer since 1994 with 2 lines. They gave me an additional $50.00 credit today.
I have had my TP2 for 4 days now on Verizon and it is working very well. Anyone who has seen this phone in my hands is running to the web to get one too. The touch flo is hard to get used to, but I am getting much better at it and it is now feeling useful as is. I did install the cab to automatically flip the screen when I rotate the phone and it is working great. The camera quality for outdoor pics is really good. Haven't taken indor people shots yet. So far, this has been a great step up from the i760 which I really liked.
Oh yeah, I pull gmail every hour, and use the phone for calls, calendar and text relatively frequently and got about TWO DAYS on the battery. I do not have wifi on, I am not running GPS (other than 911), and don't have full time push email...two days is such an improvement.
I paid 158.00 for mine and went through telesales because I couldn't get the upgrade link to work. It just kept saying the page could not be displayed.
Mine broke down like this:
299.99 for the two year plan
-100.00 for the instant rebate (the sales rep did this since I couldn't)
- 50.00 for the NE2
+ Taxes
Total: 158 and some change.
I checked with a Verizon Wireless store rep about the 100.00 dollar NE2 and he basically told me it had to do with how many minutes you purchased and not the total of the bill as they don't include features (according to the rep the data plan and text options are features). I believe he said (don't quote me as I can't remember) the plan had to be 79.99 and up.
I'm going to call telesales to ask if that's correct or not regarding the NE2 since Verizon does require you have a data plan with these devices.
The NE2 discount is structured based on the base cost of your monthly plan. Below a certain level (I'm not positive what the magic number is) you qualify for a $50 and above that level you qualify for the $100. This has nothing to do with business or corporate accounts, only personal/family plans.

YEAH! MRailing is back! Missed you around here. I was wondering if this beast of a phone would be enough to draw you back into the fold...

I have been around and reading, just haven't had the time to post. Going to try and give it a bit of time each day to try and give a little back again, maybe a bit of organization to we can have the information at our fingertips...

I have honestly not found anything about this phone that I dislike. I came from a Palm Centro with a very small keyboard and a not-so-pretty UI. I love the rubber feel on the battery door. The sound quality is good and the battery seems to last longer than the Centro did, even with the same amount of texting, browsing, phone and email usage. The one annoyance is the text sent notification that keeps popping up but mrailing provided some registry edits to try so I'm going to see if they work.

I know you've been around.. I see you floating in and out at times... Looking forward to same the organization you've done to past threads... To start off with.. there are many registry edits that would be nicely consolidated into one thread or at least link to the threads!
Thanx

That is one of my goals, starting a FAQ thread, much like before... Depends on time, planning on that this weekend a little, possibly some on Saturday...

seems like we are all looking for the same thing in a smartphone. This one is good, still long for the specs of the O2 though, if it only had a keyboard.
Hi again! First, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for helping me out earlier on with my question. One of the main reasons that I switched from Palm to WinMo is that I wanted a device that would synchronize my follow-ups for my contacts. I was led to believe that the Touch Pro 2 (and all WinMo devices, for that matter) would allow this. But once I got the device, I was upset to learn that this is not correct.
Although the TP2 had many great features, I found it pretty complicated to use, and - being that it didn't offer one of the most important synchronization features that I was looking for - I decided to bring it back to Verizon in exchange for a BlackBerry Tour.
Call me simple minded if you want - you're probably right in many regards - but the Tour is so much easier to use, in my opinion, even though I'm not totally in love with the BlackBerry platform.
I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade here. I just promised that I would come back to post my thoughts about the TP2, and I didn't want to break that promise.
