General SMT5800 Questions

Hi, I just received the 5800 from my friend because he purchased a new PDA. This is my first smartphone and I don't really know what the capabilities of this phone are.
Does anyone know if you can access wireless internet with this phone if I have wireless in my house? I don't have a data plan, but I want to know if this phone can connect in wireless hotspots for free (using Verizon).
Are there any programs that I should try to get on this phone that are useful?
I really don't know how to get them yet or put them on my phone so any help with this would be appreciated.
I bought a 2gb memory card and plugged it into the phone. I already put some music on it, but I can put phone programs in here too, right?

Thanks for any help in advance.

No the SMT5800 cannot use wireless internet. It does not have a wireless card inside. One of those things Verizon decided to remove from the phone. Without the data plan the only way to get internet on the phone is to connect it to a computer that does have internet access using the ActiveSync program and a USB cable.

In terms of getting program, I can't tell you what programs to get. If there is something specific you want to do I can recommend a program for that task. Here are some of the programs I have installed:

Google Maps (need data plan)
Group SMS (allows easier sending of text message to multiple people)
Skype (needs data, for making internet phone calls without using minutes)
Slick (needs data, instant messaging program)
TCPMP (playing music and videos)
SmartToolkit (replaces Start menu with Windows XP style start menu)
Total Commander (file explorer, better than built in file explorer)
Various games

Thanks alot, it seems im preety limited without a data plan though. Once I start my new job I might have to consider getting it. For now ill just play around with some programs and see what I can do, do you have a certain place you get programs from or just search the web?

I just search the web. All the program I listed are free and easy to find. Just let me know if there is something specific you would like to do. You can still do other things without the data plan, but having the plan is really nice. For $30 a month, its not a bad deal either.

When it is connected to a PC via the USB sync cable, how can I be sure it is connecting to the web via USB and not incurring data charges per MB?
