yup... I did it with a regEdit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs

and edit the String for "home" to your desired home page. So for google, make it "http://www.google.com/m" (Minus the quote signs... the /m is for the mobile google page, but if you don't include it, google is smart enough to add it for you!)

No problem at all!
I think this was one of the very first things i did... gotta have Google as my home page doncha know!

I do however find that even though it is set in the reg, sometimes it will revert back to the default handanGo that verizion has set for this phone, even though when i do "Menu -> Home Page" it takes me to google. Not really sure what's up with that... but a reboot of the phone will usually take care of it.

ok two things,
Home screen only shows the next appointment, can it show more?
This phone freezes a lot more than I'd like. The only thing I added was the DoMaCo New Word/Excel hack, but the phone has frozen a dozen times in the first two weeks!

I may bite the bullet and move to the i760.

Not that I'M aware of... that is, not without some third party apps to do it for you.

Can you be more specific, what are you doing when it freezes?

There are some known freezing issues with this phone. I think alot of that will be rectified when a new firmware is released tho, in the mean time you really have two options.
1- Learn what they are and how to avoid them.
2- Well, like you eluded to above, get a different phone.

You could also try a hard reset and rebuild.

How does one do a hard reset on a 5800 when the phone is frozen and you can't get to the Clear Storage System Tool?

As you can see from my avatar, I exercised my "Worry Free Guarantee" and went with the i760. I think the lack of a touch screen was starting to get to me. Good luck to you all.

Well, if you've yanked the battery for a few seconds and it still is frozen then you might be bricked.

You could try this:

I tried that when my first 5800 froze on a power up and it didn't work. Funny since this is the way most HTC phones are reset.

I would assume that this doesn't work, either, correct? This is from:

HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - SMT5800 hard reset?

If not, I think your phone is a brick and you should take it back.

"CraigH" in this thread posted that he had to talk to support and they walked him through a hard reset... maybe if he sees this he can post the exact instructions or you may possibly want to PM him and see if he can give them to you.

Either which way, if you do get it to work it would be great if you (or someone) could post back with the exact how-to for this phone.

Good luck!

Based on the description, I'm pretty sure his phone was working well enough to get to the "Clear Storage" button

Correct. I could get to the Clear Storage button. If you can't get to that, then I have no clue how to do a complete reset of your phone. Sorry.

To do a complete reset you just hold both softkeys while powering on the phone. It asks a question or something and you press the green phone key to continue.

Just got mine yesterday. Biggest problem so far:
Slider switches screen to landscape with only 1/8 inch movement. All other phones I have had need to be slid at least half way. When I carry the phone in my pocket, it just keeps turning the screen on and then to landscape even though its locked. Or when I am on the phone I have to make sure the slider doesnt move at all.

You can try tighten the slider a little. There was a post somewhere here how to do it. All you need to do is take off the battery cover and tighten the three tiny screws (one on the top left and two at the bottom.) BE VERY CAREFUL. DO NOT USE MUCH FORCE. Some people reported it made a huge difference. I did it and it helped a little. I guess, the result depends on how loose those screws are on your phone to begin with. Anyway, there's a good chance it will help to make the slider not as loose as it is now on your phone.

This phone will not show more appointments. You can do it with something like Facade (it will allow you to see up to 3 months of appointments on Home screen, with scrolling, of course.)
As for freezing... could the hack you did be a problem?

I'm going to sound like a "bad guy" again, but have you read some posts here from people who do hacks, which they have no idea how to do, install dozens of "questionable" programs and then complain about their phones not working right?

Anyone have an issue with Bluetooth shutting down spontaneously. This has been happening to me all the time and I'm not sure why.

Happy hunting!

I think it may have an internal GPS. I was looking up the user manual online, and it showed a picture of the main screen with a "location" symbol on the top row, to the right of the "1X" (attached image shows it turned off) The text described turning it on and off, but was pretty sparse about the feature otherwise. Do any of the people who have the phone see this symbol on their Verizon versions?

I called Verizon, and they said the phone is VZNavigator ready. If the GPS receiver is there, Verizon probably has it locked down so that we can't use third-party software and have to subscribe to VZNavigator. Perhaps one of our hacker members could figure out how to get to it?
