Hello, I am new to the 5800 as well just purchased it today. I converted from the xv6600, which I loved. I use to watch movies, play pac man n galaxian, use voice command 1.5, as well as monitor my daily n master tasks via franklin covey, create word/excel documents. I cannot do any of those things with this SMT 5800 from Verizon. Is it because of the platform or there are just no applications for the phone yet. The phone does work very well w my Jabra 620. Can someone enlighten me?

Good news....the PDANet folks just sent me 1.81 to try that should fix this problem. I'm unable to install the build until later tonight, but I'll post the results of the testing after I get home and play with it.

PS....Loving this 5800 more and more each day.....such a great phone! (no it isn't the beastly PocketPC that the Treo was and the applications that are available are limited....)

You can still watch movies (Windows Media Player is included). There are a lot of games out there, but you have to make sure that they support "Smartphone" or Windows Mobile 6 Standard and not just Pro. Voice Command also works, but you have to have the 1.6 version for Smartphone. Don't know anything about the Franklin Covey application but check Handango.com or Smartphone.net for compatible versions. You cannot create Word or Excel documents without 3rd party software - but you can edit existing documents. There are ways around that as well that are pretty well documented in other forums (basically you create an empty word doc or excel file on a PC and then sync it to the device...then you can 'edit' it since it is now an existing file)

HTC SMT5800 issues...

Hey Guys,

I just picked up my SMT5800 or XV5800, looking for other owners so they can help me with this phone. I love the way it looks...but and having some problems doing simple usability issues with this phone.

1) difficult to send text messages to multiple contacts -- the process is long and difficult.

2) difficult to view contact numbers from this phone -- to view a contacts number you take 2 extra clicks to see each contact individually. Meaning you cannot use the right, left, up and down arrows keys to quickly flip through each contact when trying to view the phone number associated to the contact.

3) phone camera zoom does not zoom when using the touch "joystick" navigator.

4) how can you set alarm to play an Mp3 music...my ring tone is a mp3 song..but i cannot set the alarm to play music..any help??

any help guys?

ArneG,
Any luck with 1.81? The hack workaround is working for me but very sporadic.

Thanks

figured out a work around for the favorites......downloaded and installed total commander and changed the folder name of favorites then created a new favorites folder. also used total commander to edit the homepage reg.....still looking for a few tweaks......

number one being how to stop the "message sent" message after every text message. I found reg hack for it here ---> Qusers.com - Topic :: All Known Registry Mods/Hacks

....but it didnt work. I also tried to default my documents to the sd card but that didnt work either.

anyone know of an AIM application for windows mobile?

Anyone have a good working list of tweaks? thanks.

i think many of the reg hacks that were posted were for other phones........

the most irritating ones I am looking to solve are:

getting rid of the message sent notification after sending a text.

moving my documents to the sd card

changing the verizon text to nothing or something else (the eri banner)

anyone have any luck in any other smt-5800 threads?

I'll be joining the community soon. I just purchased a brand new one off eBay for $350 and he's giving me the online rebate for it!

I've been a smartphone user for ages now. I used to have a Verizon Samsung i600 and I was a Motorola Q (Both black and silver) owner as well. I have a XV6800 right now and while I've enjoyed it, I guess I just favor the non touchscreen smartphones for some reason or another. I guess just because they are completely designed for one hand operation and Windows Mobile Standard phones typically seem to be designed phone first and Windows second. Other way around with Pocket PC phones.

Anyways, once I get it and have it all setup, I should most likely be posting a ton of stuff to make our phones more fun.

If you have any general smartphone questions feel free to ask because I know of a lot of stuff out there for them.

Not really sure of any real tweaks out there just yet for these phones, but I'm sure much of the HTC Vox tweaks should work without issue.

I will attach one must have smartphone app for you all though. It's called Don't Forget. It's a missed call/sms/email/and more reminder. The program went pay with its latest release, but previous releases were completely free.

As for AIM, my favorite pay AIM program is IM+ and free one would be Slick.

Completely forgot, but another great must have program every smartphone should have is AutoKeyLock. I always ran this on my Q and had it set to only lock my keys when idle in the home screen for a specific amount of time.

workaround for keybpard lock?

OK - havign a stange problem - I have the auto keyloack and Facade on my phoen now -

The only issue that annoys me that I have left is that if I set the auto keylock to tun off on incoming calls - my phone seems o be on ANYKEY answer - even though I have that turned off in my settings.

If I dont turn incoming calls feature on, it allows me to answer the calls, and then I have to unlock the phone to actually hang it up.

As far as the SMS no verification message hack, I did it once and it worked, I hard reset my phone becasue of an issue with my contacts, and now the hack wont work on there

Any suggestions form anyone?

yes several freezing issues. over the past 2 weeks my 5800 has frozen on me 6 times. i installed all my software during the first week that I had it, Jan 21. i have not done any reg tweaks or super geek changes either. so, between that, no wifi, the junk camera, no cut/paste, and not being able to get used to the keyboard (coming from the xv6700), i think i am going to just return it and wait to see what comes out on verizon between now and july. i've found that picture blogging, instant messaging, TCPMP, and memory management all work better on the 6700. which is really disappointing, because i love the feel, form factor, one-handedness, bluetooth integration, and physical keypad. poop.

Hello, I am new to the smarthphone and was wondering if anyone can tell me how to unlock my verizon registry. When I attempted a simple edit, I seemed to be blocked. I like the 5800 but would like to make some minor changes. I'd also love to get rid of this annoying blinking light if anyone has a suggestion. Thanks.

I'm using Resco's reg editor with no problems at all... didn't have to "unlock" anything for it to work either, just installed. I know there are other regEdit apps out there that work with this phone as well, but my experience is with Resco's.

Im looking for assistance.

I have the xv6800 and I'm trying my best to learn the ins and outs of this device. However a lot of the things are way over my head at this point.

My question is: When in a phone call I sometimes have trouble hearing the other people on the other end of the call. I'm not sure if I’m going def or if the phone earpiece speaker is just junk. I there a way to in crease the out put level of this speaker other than the standard in call volume control? I've tried a couple of registry mods but no such luck on the increase in volume. I would like to make changes that don't require a hard reset as I have no knowledge on how to save all the current ringtones, contacts, notes, calendar events, and tasks that are on my phone and I believe hard resets erase all this. I think this problem is due to a sync issue which I also cannot resolve apparently my computer doesn’t have outlook on it.

One last thing does anybody know how to strengthen the wifi capability of the xv6800 I didn’t know if there was a way to get a better signal from wireless routers that may be across the office.

As I said I’m very green to all this.

Thanks,
Mark
