I honestly think MS is going through what I call the "Nike Syndrome". They are the big company that has 96% of the OS market for desktops and dominate the server market for companies.
People tend to hate companies that are big.
The Imagio/TP2/Omnia 2 are all better than the
iPhone in my opinion. I hate Appole because people coimplain about MS but look how crappy Itunes is and Apple forcing you to take your phone in or send it in for a new battery and charging 80 bucks plus for thr cable to hook it up to your care is a rip.
Apple is the king of marketing yet they only have 4 percent of the market all there adds are on "bash your competition" sales.
I personally see the
iPhone as a fad. It is slick looking device but is also a dubed down device with very bad coverage on ATT and no multitasking capabilities.
I personally think the Imagio is closer to the
iPhone since it is smaller and has the touch screen. The TP2 is what I am recommending to my business clients wanting a new WinMO Device because it has the physical keyboard. I had the 30 day window where if I did not like the touchscreen, I would have traded in for the TP2 but SPB Keyboard makes it a non issue for me.
Windows Mobile has a ton of good software for it including a huge selection of free software. It really can do anything. I love the fact that if you dont like the way it loooks there are companies like SPB that allows you to make it oook like anything you want. Software like WMWIFIRouter just rocks.
I still believe RIM and Microsoft will go into business together and it will be MS/RIM vs Apple/Android. Assuming this does happen, I do not see Apple/Google teaming up so I think it could be a three horse race down the road.
The one thing I do not people realize especially Mac Fan Boys is Microsoft has a ton of Money. If they would put their efforts together, they could take over the mobile market just on the fact that 90 percent of businesess (medium - large) run Microsoft and also the fact that smaller busineses tend run run SBS 2003/2008 so they have an advantage their also.
I do think you hit the nail on the head. There is almost two much the phones can do. I think the strategy of having the Windows Marketplace was a smart one to make it easier for tech savy users to easily add software. I just hope the Microsoft sotre doesnt end up like the Mac store where there are 100 different fart apps to purchase.
I am currently looking to hire a new desktop tech and I requested several certs. I have received a resume from some young kid (around 22) who said he didnt have any certs but he had an
iPhone which made hin and technical expert. I had to laugh out loud. I considered sending him an email back stating that he really should pull that off his resume as no certs and having a
iPhone does not make hima desktop expert.
