Talking HTC Imagio - Bigger soft keyboard

Allot of you probably know this already but I thought that we should have a thread in here for new people that come on here looking for this answer. I'm sure there are others out there but this is my solution and I've got to say that this is one of the best tweaks for the imagio.

Most of you have probably heard of finger key board available at xda developers..where you can customize the language and color, and some of the feedback like vibrate or keypress duration. Well there is a member there that has changed some settings in the english version landscape view to allow for bigger keys..and it is great...this does take you to two line viewing of your message but I think the payoff is big. If you didn't have a problem with the standard keyboard on these phones then this will blow it out the water.

If anyone has found a different solution then please post with a link. The links to the solutions I found are listed below, and if you want to download any of the cabs you will need to register if you havn't already.

For FingerKeyBoard...you will want to download the WVGA version:

\\\\\\\\\ F i n g e r K e y b o a r d 2 ///////// v2.1 - NOW ONLINE - all resolutions - xda-developers

For the big key skin to add after you have installed finger keyboard go here:

I installed the keyboard and uninstalled quickly.
I don't like that you CAN't leave fingerkeyboard installed and switch to other input devices. you can try, but it won't "stay". it reverts back to FK.

Thats not true you can switch from Fingerkeyboard to the standard keyboard at anytime. Whenever you reset the device you go back to the standard keyboard, but all that needs to be done is restarting it...which I find that I don't do often.

To revert back to the standard keyboard by holding down on the FingerKeyboard symbol or the keyboard symbol when FK is running. When you want it to run again you have to restart it.

Really its all about personal preference...some will like it and some will not!

I am going to stay pat for now as this is or has the feel of a quick fix. Someone will come out with one that integrated better.

I am doing pretty good typing on the default keyboard except when in landscape mode, I have an habit of hitting the button below the spacebar and turning the keyboard off or bringing up the menu.

I am actually doing most of my typing in portrait mode right now even though the keys are closer together.

Dean,

Are you using two thumbs or one while in portrait mode?

I did install this in the AM and copied the large skin to the directory stated but I cant get the larger keyboard even though i downloaded the WVGA version and then the big skin for it and copied it to the directory. I must be missing something. I will look at it later today when I get a chance.

Apparently I am retarded because I followed the instructions for a 2nd time an no matter what I do, I cannot get the large skins.

Can anyone help that got this to work?

PS: SPB Keyboard sucks and is way overpriced at 15 bucks.

I ended up playing around with SPB Keyboard and now can type as well if not better than on my I760 using the Full screen mode and a skin that has a little more space. The auto spelling correction really makes a difference. Lets say you typed "sjared" with J being a typo. It automatically corrects the word to "shared". You can configure the level of the dictionary.

The program is 15 bucks but to move me from 70% to near 100% of my typing capabilities on a physical keyboard is worth the price. You can download a 15 day trial.
