There is a registry hack that will allow you to disconnect from GPRS after some period of time. The typical set up is once you have made a GPRS connection, it stays connected.
I have my email set to download the entire email rather than just the headers so that when my email is pulled down, i can ready it right away without having to make another connection. But that is personal preference.
I keep the GPRS connection all day long with my Wing and I even with my level of use (Pocket PC apps and phone usage) I find that I can pretty much go 18 hours without the Wing even going below 50% battery strength. I have my email set to check every 20 minutes. I also have my power settings to turn off the phone after 4 minutes of inactivity (which does not impact the 20 minute email check).
So unless you really need to shut off GPRS, I would leave it the way it is now. Otherwise, check some other posts on this forum where I list some websites that have useful registry hacks for the Win.
