Memory gain by not installing TMO add-ons
Well I took the plunge and figured tonight was my 'play night'. I synched my Wing, did a backup, and then did the dreaded 'hard reset'. I wanted to see what would happen to memory if I did not load all the TMO Applications that come with the Wing.
So I 'hard reset' and then after I did the initial screen alignment and skipped the training stuff, I did a soft-reset before the TMobile Customizations could begin.
After the soft-reset, I noticed several things...
1) My free Program Memory ended up at 14mb out of the box. Not amazing but a definite improvement. I had 31mb of Storage Memory available also (before my initial sync with Outlook).
2) I lost the following
- IM Communication app (TMobile's IM client for AIM and YAHOO)
- Hotspot Utility (big deal)
- Email Utility (big deal)
- the TMO today plug-in that shows your active network (no biggie there)
- the TMO today plug-in that shows if your Wifi and BT are running (no biggie)
It was pretty clean. Nothing lost that I really needed. And, you actually got an HTC today plug-in that shows three icons for battery life, screen orientation changer (nice), and the Comm Manager. If you need AIM, get Agile Messenger (free) or IM+ ($$).
3) The systray apps remained the same. So I guess we have to blame WM6 for those and not T-Mobile...
So as I write this I am doing my initial sync with the PC to get my data on their and then I have about six apps to install which will all be installed on my SD card (except Resco Explorer which is best kept on the device).
