Question Making Max Use of Micro-SD Card

I recently installed a 2GB Micro-SD card in my T-Mobile Wing. The manual doesn't say too much about how to make use of the additional memory. About all it tells me is how to insert and remove the card. For instance, I discovered that a soft reset was needed after inserting the card before it was recognized ... this simple addition to the procedure would have been nice!

I would like to make maximum use of the Micro-SD card in order to conserve the Wing's meager main memory. I though this would be a lot more automatic than it appears to be. Does anyone know how to get Microsoft ActiveSync to copy the Files from my PC's 'T-Mobile Wing My Documents' folder directly to the Wing's 'Storage Card' folder rather than the 'My Documents' folder? Also, does anyone have any other tips on using the Micro-SD memory most effectively?

Thanks,
Paul

I do not think you can have ActiveSync copy files directly to your storage card. I tend not to use ActiveSync to handle things like Word docs and such as a result. I just copy the files I need on the PPC using the Windows Explorer and copying files to the 'Moble Device' where you can then drill down to the Storage Card's folders for your destination.

As for best use of the card, I think that varies with how you plan to use the PPC. I generally keep all my documents, MP3s, audible ebooks, GPS data, etc. on my card. I also tend to install my apps onto the Storage Card as well in order to reduce memory usage. If you are using POP3 Email accounts, you may want to change the destination for attachments to the Storage Card as well so large emails do not impact available memory.

Hi Rick. Thanks for replying and for the tip on Email storage. I didn't even realize that option was available. It would be nice if there was a consolidated list in the T-Mobile Wing manual of ways to use Micro-SD memory (such as your suggestion).

One other thing to try is to move the Internet Temporary Files to the Storage Card. The default is that it goes in the /Windows folder. I think to change this you need to make a registry change. I do not have the hive information with me at the moment but I think it is the same as for the MDA. Google the registry hack for Internet Cache on the MDA...

I am working on a registry hack CAB file with useful registry hacks for the Wing (using the one developed for the MDA by lvlolvlo). I hope to have this ready in August (my July has been crazy busy).

Hey all Yes I am a newbie have modded a few phones , xbox's, psp, ps2, my 7100I by nextel and made some cool finds and post at different sites i joined that being said i am kinda a tech geek on the low

1: Rick your wrong yes you can use active sync to add files directly to your storage card.. what you cant do with active sync is play or open files well at least for me when I try it, it opens up the file propertys...

So how do you do it??? run active sync click explore then go to your windows based deviced i think that was it is called ( it looks like a phone) double click it.. then you will see a folder called storage card... nd bada bing bada boom enjoy...

2: I got this from a post by Bad Ash on here i think this was for Treos... Well it works for WM6 too kinda i have to make some edit too make it work... Also i am running these reg edits on my wing right now with no issues changed the reg using batter status program... so yea they works

You can change the location where WM6 will look for ringtones by
adjusting the following key (example given is for ringtones placed on the
Storage Card root but in a ringtones folder)

HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\Directory = "\Storage Card\ringtones"
(REG_SZ string, no quotes)

The default location may be "\Windows\" or "\Windows\Rings\" depending
on your Device provider

Change the location of 'Temporary Internet Files'

When browsing the web, pages and images are saved in the 'Temporary
Internet Files' location. You can change this location to, for example,
your Storage Card:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders\Cache = "\Storage Card\cacheie" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)

To return to the original location:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders\Cache = "\Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files" (REG_SZ
string, no quotes)

Increase FileSystem filter cache

To enable the file system filter cache, speeding up overall performance
with file mangement:

HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize =
4096 (DWORD decimal)

To return the file system filter cache to zero:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize = 0
(DWORD decimal)
You can set the value to pretty much anything you like

So enjoy all... BTW if ne one knows how to hack the cach so its on the storage card let a brother know i would appericate that...

Using the Explorer option in ActiveSync is not what I was refering to. What I meant was that you cannot 'sync' -- meaning keep documents between the PPC and PC in sync -- content to/from a Storage Card. You have to manually copy files to the Storage Card.

You can do copying using the Mobile Device link on your My Computer screen (which is basically the same as using the Explore option in ActiveSync), or, ysing the Copy to Mobile Device option when you right-click on a file on your PC.
