ok......i have just switched from sprint to tmobile......i ad the 6700.......now with that i usually had about 18 or more MB's of program storade after i stop all running programs.
now with the WING i havent seen above 7-8 MB's even after a soft reset.
is it supposed to be that low of storage for this phone? or is there something i can do to relinquish some of my program memory?
My guess is that the low memory is due to all the TMO add-ons that are provided. I wonder what the memory would be if I skipped the TMO cab installation...

i was thinking the same exact thing. TMO does put a lot of extra stuff in there thats not needed.......but the way they do it..........they tie them into other things so im kinda sketcy on not letting the whole setup run.
i wanna get rid of that stuff in the tray.
i dont like the fact that the memory is so low............this has happened to me a few times.........i'd go to use the camera and it'd say unable to run memory too low..........that very agravating when ur trying to catch something really quick
Rpeete....have u tried not loading the addons as of yet?
Not yet. Unfortunately, I really use my Wing a lot and I have not found a day where I can do a backup, reset the device, and then see what the new memory levels. Maybe after this next business trip...
There is an excellent post and links to the parts and tasks required to aid this at "http://www.mydigitallife.us/2007/06/the-week-of-jun.html" . The Pagepool is the culprit. Be careful this is isn't a simple drag and drop and your phone could be rendered the proverbial "Brick" But I did it. Set it to 6MB and I am lovin it. Some of my comments are there too. Have fun
It looks pretty straightforward. It would seem that if you made a mistake, you could reflash your ROM again if you kept a copy of the original part 02 file before editing it with your Hex Editor.
I think I am going to give this a try but it will have to wait until after July 1st cuz I am out of town and would be very sad to not have a working Wing while on my business trip.
The Wing has been busy today: phone calls w/BT headset, running GPS (iGuidance) with BT GPS receiver, receiving email and text messages, editing notes, and web surfing -- often many of these going at the same time. The device worked like a champ!
I was reading this last night, and today I called T-Mobile to ask them if they can give me a good price seeing that the iPhone just launched and if they wanted to retain me as a customer for another year... Well I tried and they cheapest they were willing to go 249 with a 50 MIR... and in all honesty I was about to do it just so I could play around with this...but then I figured what's the point.. I'll blow ~200 for a phone that I don't really need to upgrade to.
Plus I hear that the HTC Touch will be coming to T-Mobile US in August and I do like the feel of that phone so I might just hold off on the whole....
You are going to use the Touch? Let me know how that works for you. I looked at the specs and they were not impressive from the perspective of a Pocket PC user (e.g. someone who really uses the device as a Pocket PC device first and a cell phone second).
I use the PPC capabilities all day long and I do a fair amount of texting. The Touch just did not seem to be a device conducive to that. I am curious what aspects (other than the iPhone-like interface) you find compelling.
I wished that TMO had come out with their high-speed network when they announced the Wing. That would have been awesome. Oh well, still waiting...
ok after kinda messing around with my wing (that sounds dirty lol), what I found to free up some MB on program memory that worked for me was to...
-First go to the Communication Manager and click on phone to turn off phone connection (to put it in flight mode).
-Next turn off phone completely (I guess it's called a hard reboot).
-Last turn phone on (that sounds dirty again lol), and then go back to Communication Manager and click phone to turn on phone connection.
Check to see if it frees up some space... worked for me, went from 3.89 MB to 13.20 MB in free space on program memory (not storage memory).
I'm no computer specialist, but what I have noticed when going on Internet Explorer in my wing and have gotten to a crytical memory pop up, I've noticed that there were about 5 phone programs running. Kept trying to go to task manager to stop all, but still did not work even when task manager doesn't show any programs running. Kind of stubbled on to this while traveling to Duluth,MN for vacation I put my wing on flight mode and drained battery dry by watching dane cook's vicious circle (you guys gotta watch it) and then charged it in the rental car and noticed once back up it had freed up MB... so moral of story is that not only did I needed a vacation, so did my phone =P
I have not noticed a relationship between the phone services and memory usage of that magnitude. Usually, rebooting a PPC frees up memory because of applications that did not 'clean up' their memory allocations when they were closed.
I am curious if anyone else has experienced the problem you are seeing with multiple instances of the 'phone' application showing up in your Settings->System->Memory display. I do not see anything in their for the phone functionality while I am using the device.
I am a heavy user of my Wing for Internet Explorer, Email, Texting, PIM functions, and the phone. I have not experienced what you are describing. It is possible you might have a defective device but I am not sure.
