Verizon deletes Wireless Sync Account! Back up before you buy your Droid!
As luck would have it, my trusty HTC-6800 stopped charging the very day that the new Droids launched. With my NE2 credit, the Eris was about the same price as trying to replace my 6800 through Asurian so I took the Android plunge.
The good news: I love the Eris
The bad news: When I switched data plans for the new phone, from the $45/month plan to the $30/month plan the Verizon mothership automatically deleted my Wireless Sync account and all of the data contained within. Thankfully I had recently sync'd my laptop to the Wireless Sync server so I had a way to get my data back but for many months prior, I was using the phone exclusively and not syncing to the laptop.
Over the years I've come to think of the wireless sync server as an offsite backup solution for my contacts/calendar/etc. and was alarmed to discover that Verizon deleted it without an alert or notice. The sales rep made no mention that by changing data plans, I would potentially loose all of my data.
The process of getting the data out of outlook and onto the google server was simple and fast and the automatic download went without a hitch so my new droid has all my info safe and sound, but it could have been a disaster if I hadn't backed up to the laptop first.
Moral of the story, back up your data before walking into the Verizon store, because it might not be there when you leave.
