Phone not using WiFi Adapter When Turned On

Has anyone else noticed that that even after you launch WiFi, the phone continues to use the EVDO connection. You have to manually bring up the connection manager and stop the data connection in order for it to use the WiFi adapter. In fact it can take several tries to make it stop using the data connection via the connection manager before it actually sticks. You can tell that it's using EVDO by the data arrows being active. I'm assuming the same is true on both the Diamond & the Pro. A real pain...

Why is it a pain? PCs work the same way. If I have broadband o my PC connected and I then hook in my EVDO then I get 2 active connections to the internet with priority given to the primary connection. So if I don't want that I have to disconnet the broadband first. So just remember to disconnect the EVDO connection first before you activate the wi-fi.

It would be nice if the pipes would automatically bond to make a fatter pipe but I don't know how to make this happen.

It's a pain because I have to push the button that turn offs the data connection 3 or 4 times before it ceases to use the EVDO connection. Pushing it once will terminate the data connection, but it immediately tries to reactivate it again, even though WiFi is enabled.

Secondly, as a comparison, the iPhone automatically senses when it's within range of a preferred WiFi network, and will automatically terminate the carrier data connection & start using WiFi, requireing zero user interaction.
