Sprint users- Can you keep your data plan ?

I keep reading/hearing different things.

I spoke to a Sprint store rep (always a bad idea) and she said she wasnt sure which phone I was referring to but the 2 new ones that were coming up required the "everything" plans.

If you have an established service and you have a power vision plan have they required you to upgrade your plan ?

the only phone that was required to be upgraded from MY information was the instinct. i had the Mogul and was able to swap the diamond online with no issues. i think all you need to have this phone is a 35 dollar plan or higher...

Ok cool.
I thought they would force it because of the GPS and TV.

you can add those a la carte. sprint tv is basic service is free and then you can pay for the premium tv. the GPS thingy is per month or you can get the 30 dollar pro pack and get it, unlimited sms, unlimited pic mail added.

I was told by store rep that Data can be added as an "add-on" for $15, w/o SMS, or GPS.

Since I'm coming from Palm, can anyone educate me on whether the GPS sensor will still be active for third party (Google maps, Tom Tom) apps regardless of not having signed up for "Sprint Navigation", or having agreed to pay a specific GPS fee?

Also, do these services make active use of the EVDO network, under the data plan, to relay positioning or is it indirectly done over the web? How?

Thanks

The GPS add-on is for Sprint Navigation. 3rd party apps will still work with the GPS without this add-on.

The GPS works REALLY well on the Diamond because it takes advantage of both triangulation from the cell towers & a built in GPS antenna. As you travel from one state to the next, you can use the assisted GPS function to quickly lock your new location and the internal antenna from there.
