I saw a youtube (search touch diamond problems) video that had some particular criticisms I'm not woried about but I did notice the device seemed faster when converted to run straight 6.1 Win Mob Prof. Has anyone else found this to be true, know it to be true, or planned to go forward and do it?
I freagin' hate the hourglass in windows, phantom touch strikes, etc. Speed and responsiveness are key desires. TIA

you are going to have people post issues with stuff.. is the nature of the beast. i can tell you that the touch flo works much faster than any ppc device i have owned on sprint. there is no lag or any real delay. there is plenty of memory to run touch flo just fine IMO. but if you have a lot of programs running, low on board memory, tons of contacts, emails, etc. it could possible bog down the system.
this video on the tube. did the user state how much memory they had? were the issues there right out of thr box? did they swap their phone out? are they planning to return the device?
dont let negative press sway you from getting something. the diamond is the fastest selling htc device, having sold about 700,000.00 units i believe the htc rep stated, and will be at a million real soon, so the touch flo is workign nicely.
i even had the touch flo 2D on my Mogul and that was pretty impressive.
my suggestion is to go into a sprint store and try it out for yourself. purchase it and spend the next 2 weeks taking it thru its paces and decide for yourself if it has issues you can not get over. thats the only way you can get an accurate decision made...
Thanks. I wish there were more people trying to raise issues because it seems the majority of Youtube reviews heep praise and are kind of shallow, busy Comdex type scenes.
I was referring to this youtube review. I now see under new search terms, there are other reports of seemingly random screen drop outs, or "black screen" problems, where during calls, after several seconds, the screen powers down and needs to be refired using the top button. Don't know if this is what's supposed to happen, or not.
I am not trying to bash the thing and have already gone through many paces with it, apart from not actually buying one. I'd also rather read what others are saying with a grain of salt. The CDMA version hasn't been out that long.

This is indeed a feature not a bug, it has a light sensor so it will turn the screen off when on a phone call, u know so ur face doesn't press buttons and also to mute a call by flipping it over.
Also no conversion is needed to run regular windows. It already is. TouchFlo is simply a today screen item running on windows. and I can't possibly see anyone running out of program memory on this thing, even with touchFlo running.
analog, there are just as much iPhone posts talking about how its dropping calls, etc etc no replaceable battery, slow network... etc etc... but people still buy it. point is the device works. the CDMA version has been out long enough to flush out any issues with the device. there will be bad devices since these are mass produced but that is a small number.
point is its your decision. no onne here can sway you to do what you do or do not want to do. pick up the phone and play with it for during the return window. if its not to your liking, return it.
i have the diamond but its not for me because i must have a physical keyboard--been using PPC phones with physical keyboards since 2001. but i got it for free so i cant complain can i?
bash the phone as you see fit, but dont expect anyone to twist your arm to see it a different way. real world experience prevails here, and for me, the phone functions above my expectations for this particular device.

Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs) AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0
Cheers,
Jeff

...and many don't. To people who are into phones, the Touch and iPhone comparison exists in a vacuum. That's my take. I wouldn't know the shortcomings of the iPhone, either.

...and you're an Administrator? First, I am not "bashing" the phone. I don't see any harm in looking to find out what the bug list might be for so complicated a device. I am not here to find out about what any phone does well as much what it might not do so well. And why waiste my time, and other companies money, trying a phone to reveal things that the internet can flesh out? If merely discussing them is going to be regarded by a forum administrotor as "bashing", then "point is" I gotta ask myself if I'm in the wrong forum.

Dog Marc wasn't trying to upset you but we do like to have a happy positive forum. That being said you have to understand us windows guys have been waiting for a very long time for a phone like this. We haven't seen any major improvements since the 6600! This is the first windows phone that is different and new and cool so please understand us phone geeks sometimes take criticism of our phones personally.

forget my status on this forum. i was speaking as an individual.
you know how it is, you cant tell the tone of a post on the internet. my post was in no way meant to sound angry. perhaps i should have put a smily next to the post to convey my tone. as anyone on this forum who sees my posts will say, im no where near a mean person. its unfortunate you saw my post in a negative way.
in the end, you have to decide whats best for you. 5 people who like the phone may post how good it is while 20 people will post whats wrong. as for wasting peoples' time, you would not be. those trial periods are there just for that.. to TRY out the phone and service. there is no guaranteed way to know for sure if this phone will work for YOUR needs unless you try it! no way. you can search on the net and find out what people who take the time to post have to say about it, but that gives you a guideline at best.
null is correct, no harm is meant. this group of phones, diamond and PRO, are TRUE upgrades and not simple UPDATES as the 6800 was to the 67. if you are a PPC user you will LOVE this platform, touchflo 3D. the speed and RAM improvements are killer. its nice to see you can have several programs running and only be using say 40% of your memory vs 88% or your memory with the same apps on the 68...
its really a nice design. i cant say enough good things about it. next time you in Atlanta look me up and first round of drinks are on me!
In fairness, that youtube video seemed to have a hidden agenda. I am associated with that only as far as making reference to it in my post. I'll be ordering the Diamond to try it out. Thanks for covering my fears.
Curmudgion out
