All that being said, I doubt i'd upgrade to any phone for $600.
I agree!

Tilt Sensor and Stylus Sensor ... Prolly pretty nice.

Better build quality ... Da buggah better be virtually perfect to beat Trillion on that count

WiFi ... Had it on my Mogul, Marvin, don't miss it a bit, and it ATE the battery when I forgot to turn it off.

Double the program memory ... Trillion has NEVER run out of memory!

Scroll/Zoom (The bottom panel is supposed to be multi touch capable too)
... Not sure, don't know how that works??

The VGA is pretty huge for me too.

But the only thing that might remotely be worth 600 bucks are the looks I would get from folks when I pull it out! Same like the iPhone guys, prestige! Looking good is impotent!

No, what I meant was what happens if the stylus isn't in the holster? Will it always be out of standby? And will the notepad always be up whilst in a phone call?

I would think that it's the act of removing the stylus that turns on these features, not having it out.

No to both of your questions. It's just the act of pulling it out of the slot that activates these features.

O.K. here it goes. I am going to list the things I like for now.

1. power off switch-hold for a few seconds and it shuts the power off. (completely).
2. eye candy of course.
3. I now have Sprint Radio (Did not have this before on the touch)
4. Size. Or maybe this is a negative have not figured that out yet. One minute I love the thinner (width) and longer size vs. the touch. Then another part of me loves the soft feel of the touch.
5. Camera is now good enough for my real estate appraisals. Yahoooo!!!
no lugging an extra camera around anymore.
6. Movies under sprint tv. That is something new as well.
7. Opera I believe 9.5? It is not working at the moment. Maybe this is not a positive??
8. Prl Update
9. MP3 Trimmer looks promising.
10. This is a huge one for me. When I and several others updated the ROM from 6 to 6.1 on the Touch. Some of us lost the ability to roam on verizons network. I never have been able to roam on verizons network on my touch with winmo 6.1. I tested this out today with the diamond. I am glad to say I was able to roam. Not sure why this is. However, Spinedoc and a few others had the same trouble. However, the important thing is that I can confirm in the 12 hours I have had the phone. It is working.

Those are a few of the things I played around with today. As every day I will keep on testing. So far, I am very happy. It's a new toy. Oh yah the VGA screen kills the old touch screen. No comparison. Happy testing everybody!!!!

Thumbs up

Likes
1. Screen, just one word. WOW.
2. Size, I know it's an illusion but the Diamond looks much more thick.
3. Camera, works good. autofocus, not the fastest, however this is not a camera, it's a phone.
4. Voice dial, no more soft volume issues, works great.
5. Keyboard, much better than before, I actually find the Diamond keyboard to be easier to use than TouchPAL.
6. Picture Mail! Works great. Glad Sprint finally made it available. Even seems to have voice record ability. Going to have to try it out.
7. Touch FLO, works much better than before.

Needs Improvement
1. Light sensor (Fixed by changing setting)
2. Internet provisioning (should work out of the box) I'm sure a patch will fix it.
3. Program memory. Ran out the first day I started loading my apps on it. The Touch never ran out... Going to have to clean out un-used junk. Could have put in more, some apps require to be installed in program memory rahter than memory card (which is also built in)
4. No memory card, if phone dies, you wont be able to delete data before sending the phone in for repair or exchange. Also when use as high speed drive mode the phone looses access to the card, causing main external installed programs to fail,
5. Picture Mail. (Need to have picture mail re-provisioned)

Overall, the Diamond is sexy! Hope the Touch HD makes it to Sprint!

I believe there's an option under Backlight settings that determines whether the screen is dimmed while the device is locked.

Correct, the setting for autobacklight is there also.

Also, my review should be up by tonight.

Here goes, sorry for choppyness.

Here goes, and please note, I’ve been writing this over the course of the last week, so some things are not quite in order.

SIZE: I’m really liking the size of the diamond. I pick up my Mogul every now and then, and say “how did I use this thing?” Of course I used to say that about the 6700 when I got the Mogul. I’m now hoping the size of the touch pro won’t keep me from getting it. It fits in the pocket nicely (shirt or jeans).
DATA ENTRY: I Must say one of the reasons for me to switching from a traditional phone was because I text a lot and could not stand the phone pad. T9 was a little better, but no go (on a traditional phone) this is my first phone without a keyboard since… well I can’t remember when. I tried the compact (has two letters per block) and full QWERTY. The compact, just had a too much of a learning curve for me. I naturally at first went to the traditional “keyboard” the one that you use the stylus with. I’m thinking there has got to be another way. In the end I have been using the full QWERTY with T9 enabled. This was the easiest transition from the Mogul. It’s nice when I type 3 letters and my word pops up and I just hit space. The “a” is a little hard to hit but everything else is getting smother by the day. Also nice is T9 turns off when you go to a password field and then turns back on when out of a field like that. (Yes I know there are other installable keyboards but have not tried them on Diamond any suggestions??)
INTERNET SPEED: On my Mogul using Opera 9.5 (beta), I was able to d/l at about 300-500kbit/s I got about this with the other browsers as well. The Diamond I’m getting right around 1000 kbit/s every try. Nice… This is the link I use: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed
LIKES:
Program Memory. (period) I love not having to close out of my programs anymore. Coming from the Mogul which was always running out of memory and closing apps unless you ran 1 resource intense program at a time. I can play music, surf the web, use live search, and run messenger all at the same time. I think the lowest I’ve seen the program memory at is about 80MB free. It is so nice to actually have these running in the background. It’s nice to click a link and not have to wait for opera to load up. I like the music player in the TouchFlo. It uses my WMP playlists with ease, which for me is a must for a media player. It also works with my music buttons on my Bluetooth headset. Haven’t installed TCMP yet… Don’t think I will. Also, Bluetooth volume is GREAT can’t stress it enough. The Camera… Where’s the flash?? I guess that’s why I have Picasa, but all in all the camera takes really nice pictures for a phone. Has an auto correct and crop feature too. The Phone Dialer is nice. The dial pad is placed over call history showing the 2 most recent items. The Mogul would only allow me to call back that contact on the number they called from. On the Diamond I just tap left or right to pick a different number, or I can send a text. I like that I can ignore calls with a text, and flip my phone over to silence it. It has REAL GPS. It also has a program (quick GPS) that Downloads satellite data every day so that it takes about 8-12 seconds to lock on, on a cold start.
Touch Flow 3D. WOW, well, I was going to have its own section but looks like it disbursed throughout the review. The windshield wiper in the weather when it’s raining was nifty.
Taking the stylus out, will turn the phone on and even unlock it for you if it is locked. Pull it out on a phone call and the notes program opens up.
The auto backlight seems to work well, I little too bright at night, but overall good.
When connected to a computer, you can have the normal a/s connection or have the internal storage act as a flash drive.
DON’T LIKES:
Messaging you flick “down” for newest message. For email you flick “up” for the newest message. What gives? After a while I get why now. Texts are on a “list” with newest on the top so u "pull down" to get to the top. Email is in an envelope with newest in front. It always shows the newest first. When you pull down, you’re stuffing that email in the envelope and thus showing the next newest (older) email. Also When you d/l pictures in an email, it will often boot u to the home screen and make you go back into the email to view it.
There was a trade off for Program Memory. Storage memory is low. I installed a few apps and it quickly ran out, had to install the remaining on “internal storage” which to me is still like a memory card. On the Mogul I didn’t have to do this. I can’t wait for the Touch Pro now to have both sufficient program AND Storage memory.
The programs section in the TouchFlo doesn’t allow you to move the program’s position. You must remove it then add it to a new location.
My biggest dislike though, is volume adjustment. After u adjust it you have to wait for what seems like forever for the screen to come off to go back what you’re doing. You can hit the home button and then find what you were doing back again, but that takes just as long. That is prolly the only place I would actually use the back button and it does not work on that screen.
And Of course, comparison pictures of the Diamond and Mogul.
