It appears HTC may not have learned any lessons from their past issues with storage cards. I'm already reading of people having issues with their internal storage card disappearing after they try to sync music on it. One huge downside of having the card internal is that you can't access it to reformat it through a card reader, or even replace it with a new card if need be. If this is true, I can see this becoming a huge headache for both us & Sprint.
Which leads me to my second thought... I'm wondering if we took the Diamond apart would we find an SD card mounted inside? If that's the case, I wonder if we could replace it if we wanted to? Unfortunately that would void the warranty, but it's still very tempting.
Great observation. That is very tempting to open it and find out. I was lucky with the touch and never did have the memory problem. Sorry for the hi-jack... was wondering if Spine Doc and Shureka are on board with the new diamond??
its probably some other storage type that is designed to look to the outside world as a SD card. i would be surprised if it were actually user removable...

I went 6 months without having the storage card problem (on the Touch), and was convinced I was one of the lucky ones. Then out of the blue it happened, and when it did, it sucked big time because I never backed it up. There were all sorts of theories surrounding what triggered the problem, but none of them fit the way I was using the storage card.

I hope so! I was bummed that Marc never moved over to the Touch, but I could understand why (no keyboard or wifi)
That is pretty intresting, i have a contact at sprint and at htc that i can ask to see if they know anything about this.
I would assume that if it is a sd card that its mouned in a place on the phone where removing it would require some tools of some sort....and thus voiding the warrenty completely

That would be cool. I've sold a lot of hardware based network security appliances where device memory (Mircodrives, RAM, cards, etc...) was mounted to the motherboard. It wasn't directly accessible to the end user, but was accessible if you took the cover off the appliance and had direct access to the motherboard.
Got the phone and memory problem. Happened when syncing music.
I am thinking it is a software issue. The phone works in two modes. Active Sync (File based system) and Hard Drive (where it mounts a drive). When you go to Hard Drive mode the phone un-mounts the Internal Memory from the phone so two systems are not writing to the same drive at the same time. The problem is when the sync is disrupted is my guess.
The question is how do you re-mount the drive. The file space is still there. The folder Internal Storage still shows up under My Device but it does not show up under memory.
Any ideas? And if my theories are wrong punch some holes....would rather figure this out if possible than RMA it.
My Internal memory is dead. Happened about a week ago. One day it said not present under memory in the settings. I only have loaded programs on to it and some music. No syncing just direct copy. I've tried to format but get the error internal memory can not be accessed. Did a hard reset and nothing. Called into customer service and was told they would have to charge my card until they got the old diamond back and then if I wanted my money back (not on the account) I would have to fill out a form and it would take 7 to 30 days I called a store and they said it could be ordered through them and then I could come in and pick it up
If we can let's track all the internal storage issues in this thread so we can see if there is a pattern or maybe just maybe a fix!

I received a replacement Diamond from Sprint yesterday for an issue I was having with the physical buttons (more on that in another thread). I had issues with the new one not recognizing the internal storage, just like the other posts in this thread. I'm not sure if it was like this out of the box, or if this happened when I tried to restore a Sprite Backup to the new device, since the Sprite Backup failed about 1 hour into restoring data to the internal storage card. It was after that, that I tried to, and couldn't see the internal storage anymore. Anyway this is what I did to fix it:
1.) Hard reset -- using the "Clear Storage Only" option in the clear storage utility in System>Settings.
2.) When everything comes back up (after the customizations), I used file explorer to delete the folder called "internal storage".
3.) Connected to PC (running XP SP3), and selected the "Disk Drive" option on the Diamond.
4.) On my PC I went to Start>Run>CMD
5.) In the command window I typed: format D: (which was the drive letter windows had assigned my Diamonds internal storage)
Note: I could not format the internal storage by accessing it through windows explorer. I tried several times & had it fail. The only way to do this was through a command prompt.
The full manual pdf is up at HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer . In it, it shows how to remove the back, the battery and the sim card. I think there is even a description of two types of compatible sim for replacement. As there is only one Touch Diamond up on the site, one might be mindful of where the CDMA/GSM models differ (battery, etc.)

I just edited my process in post #10 to include another step. I forgot to include the step where I deleted the Internal Storage folder using file explorer. I'm not sure if that will make any difference for you or not, but worth a try.
Well no luck fixing the memory. On the plus side I went into a store to have them order me a replacement. Well I got to talking to one of the techs and he was asking me how much i use the internal memory. I told him not much now but once I get a little more familiar with this phone I'll be using all the time. He suggested to ditch the Diamond and go with the pro. I was hesitant as I like the slim form and don't need a hardware keyboard (but that TV out sounds like heaven). He was suggesting it because it would be very odd for the pro to have the same problem. So I said alright but it's not out and my 30 days will be up before it comes out so he said call customer retention and talk to them. And BINGO they said the pro would be coming out on the 16th and if I call in within a week of that date they'll get me the phone no problem. She did say if it gets pushed back I have to call in and have my account notated again so I can swap when the new one comes out.
Spint has made me on happy boy!!!

I don't want to bring you down but be prepared to call Sprint to have it notated. EVP sent out an email informing people who put in a pre release order for the Touch Pro that it was pushed back to Nov 2. Make sure you call back at the right time.
When my wife phone arrived today, the phone does not recognize the internal 4gb storage when using file explorer. It does show when you execute the memory function when you are in settings. This is how i got my wife Diamond to show storage through file explorer.
I go into setting and execute CLEAR STORAGE
I hook up the Diamond via USB to my computer
When phone turns on (without going through the setup process yet), The computer will recognize the phone. Here, you sync and setup phone process with WMDC. Then there it was, i can see the internal storage through WMDC and then also on the phone. Hopes this help anyone who has problems trying to get the phone to recognize the 4gb.
