I was looking at the $99 Simply Everything plan at Sprint and I noticed that it said "Phone as modem or tethering is not included." I couldn't find anything else on the site on adding this. Does anyone know about if it's possible to tether with the Diamond and how much additinal it would cost?
Until we have one in our hands, it's hard to say if they crippled our ability to tether or not, but my guess is that they did. To enable this feature they want you to pay for the Phone As Modem Plan.
Alternatively there are programs such as PDANet, by June Fabrics & WMWifiRouter that will enable you to use your phone as a modem.
It looks like they might not have "easy" free tethering built in anymore. I noticed in the manual that it doesn't have Internet Sharing under com manager any more I might have to pay for a program!!!
Well that's not as bad as $45 a month

From what I've read in the manual PDF, ICS is available in the start menu somewhere still, and plug-n-connect is all that is needed assuming you have the PAM option which I was told is available on the SE plans and Pro Paks at $15/mo.
I believe there are registry line items in Sprint's WinMo 6.1 that "force" connection to the PAM NAI gateway and block access via the phone gateway through a .dll extension so without either a PAM option athenticating you to tether or registry hacks disabling these blocks (posted elsewhere on this forum) ICS won't let you in. It appeared to be set up that way on the Treo 800w I was looking at in a Store.
I dunno, PDANet is great for the one time charge it costs for tethering with no add'l plan surcharges, but $15/mo is much better than the $40 Sprint used to charge, and you can turn it on and off as needed since it's not part of your contract now.
My VZW expiration date comes up in 6 weeks and moving over to Sprint is looking better all the time and for me it's gonna be a tossup between the 800w and the Touch Pro by then as I do want a real keyboard, and with cheaper tethering via ICS it's gonna be tough to say no.

I got a copy of USBModem once I switched to the Everything plan, and it's worked awesome so far...in fact I'd say it works more reliably for me than ICS. As an aside, does anyone know when the Touch Pro is coming to Sprint?
I dont have a very good signal at my house. and I'm on the phone with sprint about my phone switching networks. But I will try and post something Tomarrow
it is as easy but different. For instance when I disable usb connections in active sync it wont work. The phone decides what it's connecting for Internet Sharing, Data Transfer , or Activesync.

if it's an .exe it's a desktop installer if it's a .cab then it's the install file for the pda. If it is a desktop installer you can install through active sync or you can go into program files on your computer and pull out the .cab and copy it to your device

I tried WMWifiRouter on the Diamond today, and must say this program is really nice and is much better than PDANet IMHO. The number of connection options is amazing.
Warning: You Diamond will become scorching hot after using any of these programs. I guess you're pounding the radio hard when tethering.
your actually pounding the battery and the CPU but yes this program rocks. its no secret i enjoy using this program. i been using it since it was a little baby (v .02)
