Well many were ready for the Diamond to come to VZW due to the speed increase etcetera. Well as usual VERIZON has crippled yet another phone!
Phone Arena got some leaked documents on the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro for Sprint and Verizon, and it looks like Verizon's going to be slightly gimping their version of the Diamond. The general gist is the same with both having a 2.8-inch screen, EV-DO Rev. A, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera, 802.11b/g, 1340mAh battery, internal GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0. What's different is in the Processor and RAM.
Sprint has a Qualcomm 7501A Processor running at 528MHz with a 32MB ISM, and Verizon has a Qualcomm 7500 running at 400MHz with a 54MB ISM. Slightly faster, but less RAM internally for Sprint. On the memory side, both have 256MB ROM, but Sprint has a 256MB RAM as opposed to Verizon's 128MB. That's half the amount of RAM on Verizon. Expect slowness there. But you do get an SD expansion slot on Verizon.
On the Pro side, the relative Processors and RAM are the same (Sprint gets 256MB RAM while Verizon only has 128MB), but both have a 512MB ROM. Sprint's has a motion sensor on both phones while only having an SD expansion slot on the Touch Pro. From what Phone Arena's readers say, Sprint will have a 30 day exclusive head start on the two phones starting on or around September 2

Thanks for the post, but this information is a little late now, and alot of people are saying that #1 HTC won't be making two different versions, it would cost more for them, and #2 alot of people don't believe it because it was released by sprint and why would sprint have Verizons Specs?
Just what I've heard, and just hoping but we will see.
P.S. I haven't seen it on Pdaphonehome, so it may be new to some other members.
Because I didn't locate a thread and also because many here on the i760 Forum were in wait for the HTC-Diamond to switch to as they are tired of all the problems and limitations of the i760.
P.S. iProb, you are welcome to move this thread if needed.

Thinking of switching to Sprint but the Palm 800w though. Still want a keyboard and Sprint's Everything plans give you more for $10 less than what I'm paying now on VZW for vaoice&data only.
Amybody wanna convince me to consider the Diamond instead?
I for one am quite excited to see this device emerge! However, something that makes me wonder is how far removed from regular wm6.1? The reason i bring this up is that HTC does make a clear distinction between WM phones and "touch" phones. The HTC Touch was wm6 with touch programs overlayed. I wonder if this will be the otherway around?

dima, Sprints "Everything"? And there is still a "cap" on all the "Unlimited" plans so they are not really "Unlimited"
"Sprint SERO officialy dead. Long live Everything Plus."
Hope you were smart and heeded our story last week, as we stated Sprint's much appreciated super-duper-secret awesome pricing plan has come to an abrupt end today.
Those going to the Sprint SERO (Everything Plus(SM) Referral Program) site are now redirected to their Everything Plus system, which is still an exclusive employee referral program but somewhat less crazy-cheap..
The catch now is you need to actually have their email and last 3 digits of their employee ID--much harder than the old generic email system of yore, eh?
The benefit for new users? The plans are still very competitive:
* Everything Plus 500 is going to be $59.99
* Everything Plus 1000 is going to be $79.99
* Simply Everything for $99.99 will still be an option
The older plans started at $30 and $50, so the increase is significant but at least you now get unlimited Sprint TeleNav and some Sprint TV offerings (pretty pointless on WM devices we suppose).
As previously noted, older SERO customers are 'grandfathered' in so you're all set. You should also be able to order new phones and get the discounts without having to change plans.

First Post and I will try to make some sense --I am posting here because it seems like a lot of you that own the i760 are considering the HTC Touch Diamond.
I was ready to buy the Samsung i760 having read a lot about it --- then I saw the Ipod Touch, which is, I understand a lot like the iPhone and I was really impressed by the touch interface. I remain committed to the Verizon network because just about everyone we know is on Verizon and with kids -- this saves us money.
Assuming the predictions are correct and Sprint releases their phone with a 30day advance exclusive sales agreement next week or by September 2 -- once Verizon releases their version how hard is it going to be to get your hands on this phone?
Will the phone be available on line or in the stores right away or am I going to have a three month wait from there? Also any ideas on what Verizon is going to sell it for with the one year or two year contract.
Also -- What about these phones sold by some of the retailers who claim they are unlocked and work on the Verizon Network -- ??? Is it safe to buy these phones or is it caveat emptor?
Thanks
Zinduli
This may seem silly but I sold my old phone last month and thought I'd wait and read a bit more about the i760 and now I am thinking maybe I'd better wait a little longer and get the Diamond ---
As far as I know, the Diamond has NOT been 100% confirmed for vzw, however it is confirmed enough for me to be excited. Now, you better believe that if that phone does hit vzw, then it is gonna be h-e-double hockey sticks to get one. What I can offer is that if it is coming to verizon, I can order them into my store and hold the phones for people. So, if we get closer and find out it is coming, then I can confirm a date when I will be able to order them and I will sit online the night before and persistently submit an order until it goes through to ensure that I can get them. However, due to ordering limitations, I would need to know ahead of time who would want me to do that for them and may only be able to get in a preset amount. In that case, it comes down to I will order them and then hold them for people who have contacted me. First come first served. Honestly, if I could order one for every person, I would. Now, if we get a huge interest, I can have my other stores in the area do the same under their order. ***again though, this is all preliminary, as there really has not been a 100% confirmation that this phone is in fact coming to vzw***
email me and let me know if youre interested. Also, if you email me even tonight and say so, then I will start compiling a list and keep everyone up to date as to order status and the number of orders I can submit.
Nate

Nate, are you a b2b Rep or store owner, or what? I apologize if you have formally introduced yourself before but I haven't been on the site for a long time. What about prices for the Diamond, if it should come out? Most of us paid a measly 150 dollars or less for the i760
pillagingjack, It is nothing to have a hockey fight over, lol...If you read the specs the Real Untouched Diamond runs at 528Mhz and the VERIZON version runs or should I say walks at 400Mhz. So, this will slow it down to a crawl or VERIZON will not only "Cripple" the hardware as the specs have shown but will indeed "Cripple" the software as the 400Mhz cpu is not fast enough to run the standard programs on the HTC-Diamond. I am very sure Sprint and Verizon are getting these "Crippled" HTC-Diamonds and your store and many many other VZW stores will promote the heck out of it and not tell the consumer or better yet Post it by the HTC-Diamond that it Is Not the same as seen elsewhere. If your store and or you do inform every consumer that looks at the HTC-Diamond that It's Not The Same as seen elsewhere then "Koodles" to you and your store! I just had to vent as VZW likes to "Cripple" these PPC's and pretend there is nothing wrong when you call them.

Oh true, at my store we deal with every carrier (except att) and we also deal with unlocked phones, so I have seen a real diamond in my store. It was a nice piece!! and in my store we try very much to educate our customers as to differences and what not. That said, when it comes down to it, what else do we really have to look forward to? Not only with verizon, but ANY US carrier? Honestly, none of the US carriers are actually putting out good phones. Luckily for att and tmobile, they can get unlocked phones from overseas and its all happy go lucky. For us lonely verizon folk, though, we need to take what we can get, and this is as good as its going to get! (well, leaving out the blackberry thunder that is)
Look at it this way....if I come to your house and dangle a piece of bread in front of you, you would tell me to take a hike. But, say you were starving, and I dangled a piece of bread in front of two starving people, well there would be a fist fight!!
Verizon customers are starving and this is the few scraps of bread that the FCC and verizon are letting through...too bad...it has so much potential. Also keep in mind that those specs are preliminary. I mean, lets try to be positive for a second (I know, its vzw, so were gonna TRY!!! hahaha) what were the initial specs on the 6800? Granted, the 6800 sucks, but they leaked it out with less ram/rom and a slower Processor than it actually launched with!
Here's hoping!!!
Nate

Nate,
"Look at it this way....if I come to your house and dangle a piece of bread in front of you, you would tell me to take a hike. But, say you were starving, and I dangled a piece of bread in front of two starving people, well there would be a fist fight!!" I would share my bread as the Lord teaches
True, about the specs but I will try and post the FCC Approved Verizon Diamond that also shows half the RAM too in order to save costs.
I am waiting for the SGH-i907 "Omnia" that goes to AT&T and then I will jump ship I think.
I wonder if that is why VZW has such a nice commercial but if they use "Crippled" phones that can only do very little compared to the real phone so they can brag about there service and not upgrade there towers and system to the 21st century like Europe. It look like I will do just fine with GSM service and as you said the GSM phones are very nice indeed like the Samsung Omnia, Xperia X1 and others found here-->PDAlist: GSM Phones | PDAdb.net - Comprehensive Database of PDA, PDA Phone, PNA & Smartphone Specifications

Jastech as with all phone debates, it all comes down to service, not only does verizon have the highest customer satisfaction, it really does have more coverage; especially in highly rural areas, where lets face it, most people do not care what their phone does, so long as it makes calls. Due to Verizons acquisition of rural cellular and the mandate by the FCC to ensure competition in rural areas, AT&T will hopefully be coming to Vermont where GSM coverage is pretty good but not as good CDMA. I plan on jumping ship, however, if in the end, I can't make calls, I could careless how many features my phone has, because it wouldn't be a phone, more like an expensive touch screen paper weight.

When I can drive from the middle of nowhere Iowa all the way to the middle of nowhere Tennessee and have EVDO over 95% of my trip, it's a no brainer, VZW's network beats the holy hell out of anybody elses. If you are just one person and have good coverage where you are at, who cares what national coverage you have.
When you are a large company having to support hundreds of Data cards, Blackberries and WinMo devices with users in every state and multiple countries around the world, yeah, network matters.
I say the original diamond is "crippled." You're stuck with 4GB internal memory with no expansion slot. That's crippled. Plus higher Processor speed means shorter battery life... Glass half full, man!!
Also, maybe the fact that the VZW Diamond doesn't have the accelerometer that maybe it will actually perform faster then the stock Diamond? I read somewhere that it can be a memory hog? The Processor may be a bit slower, but it has twice the Internal System Memory (ISM), maybe that will make up the difference? It may not need all that RAM without the accelerometer?
But yeah, if the accelerometer is one of the features you wanted, then yeah, you may be upset, but don't go thinking the thing will run slower.. you may be surprised.
p.s. I still think the SD card slot is a huge bonus over being stuck with just 4GB internal memory. And steel frame to boot... it'll be tougher.
Dorf, "I say the original diamond is "crippled." You're stuck with 4GB internal memory with no expansion slot. That's crippled. Plus higher Processor speed means shorter battery life... Glass half full, man!!"
Higher CPU speed does not mean less battery life. The Tegra 650 is 800Mhhz and will run HDTV from the cell phone to the HDTV for 3 hours. I would have to say it's better eh?
If most of the people only care a bout calling/a phone then why do we all have the i760 here? We are MEN, we want/need more gadgets and that my friend is on our genes
4GB of internal and no SD slot, I agree. That is why my ship will have the SGH-i900 Omnia 16GB internal with the SD slot
Coverage, then you have good coverage where you go! I still live in AllHells network and have been using VZW for over 2 years now. But I don't like the "Crippling" affect Verizon has on cell phones. They just don't want to support all the extras for which will adversely affect there "Best Network" advertisement. England friends I have all have GSM of course and High Quality phones that are spot on. So the U.S.A. companies need to step up to the plate and better there technology. I think VZW is afraid of having all the dropped calls if they don't "Cripple" the phones and enable all the potential that was designed into them. JMHO, Thanks, JASTECH

Please do us all a favor. If you are that sick of Verizon and the phones... LEAVE! I actually quick checking these boards daily because of YOU. I am tired of your Verizon bashing. If Sprint is so much better, then BUY ONE OF THEIR PLANS! Or AT&T, T-Mobile, Altell, Cricket, Boost, or two tin cans connected with fishing wire.
I can no longer take your rude comments to new posters who have a question or your bashing of Verizon and their phones.
I will not be here to read a response... I am gone. I will find solutions and look forwad to these phone coming out over at the howardforums.
P.S. You are not a moderator... so please stop acting as if you are!
