hp6940 carriers?

Hey all --

Im thinking of trying the 6940 as a replacement for my old 6315.

But, Im a little confused at carriers. If I purchase the GSM unlocked version from HP directly, which US carriers can I use with it? And what's the process for using it with them?

Do I just take the device into a store and say "set it up!" ?

I'd like an unlocked version partly out of principal, and partly because I'd like the freedom to use European carriers / SIMs while travelling.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Any GSM providers will be able to use the device. The primary U.S. carriers that support the 6940 are Cingular and T-Mobile. I have an hw6940 and it has worked great on our Cingular network.

John,

Where are you getting the connection settings? Do you have a CAB file, or are you setting them up manually?

Chris, I just plugged in my SIM and the device automagically populated the correct carrier settings.

huh... that's new. I've never had a PPC do that before. I've either had to enter the settings manually or use a CAB file.

I was surprised as well, but I suppose that HP set it up for the most common carriers in the U.S.

Yep, the 69xx will automatically adjust settings depending on the SIM you insert. YOu don't have to manually enter any settings. It does that all for you without skipping a beat.

As for carriers for the 6940, any GSM carrier in the world will work with your 6940 because it is unlocked and able to be used on all 4 GSM bands worldwide. Just pop in any GSM carrier's SIM card and you'll be up in running.
