IPAQ 6515 dowloaded Rom update,Ipaq=dead. Need help
have an Ipaq 6515d, purchased in the Netherlands. Downloaded the ROM update(which I shouldn't have)SP31952 It is completely STUCK, reset, hard reset, tap dancing on it. Nothing works anymore. Just tried the online helpdesk detection, you guys can see there is an ipaq connected via USB, active sync however doesnt'. It got stuck on about 80% or the installation. It is stuck now in 'SERIAL V0.21' Haven't paid 600 Euro's to be stuck with a dead ipaq. Need some help.
I had the same issue with mine. Performed a hard reset, which brought me back to the serial screen again. I plugged my cradle in to power (I normally don't use the cradle and didn't have the power cable connected to it). Once I gave the cradle power and ran the set up again, it worked fine.
Hello jtollus. Thanks for your reply. I am still stuck. I guess the issue here is how to get it out of the serial screen. I have my cradle and charger ready, but cannot get the iPaq started to the point where it communicates with the PC. Any clues?
1) Get the battery out of the iPaq, and wait for a few minutes while the "serial" image fades away slowly.
2) In the meantime, prepare your cradle, plugged into the AC charger and plugged via USB to your PC.
3) After a few minutes, with the screen of the iPaq completely gray, put the battery and battery cap back on (with our without SIM card), and put it on the cradle immediately.
4) The iPaq should start coming back to life, as if it were being hard reset. Let is stay on the welcome screen (i.e., do not tap it or anything).
5) Restart the upgrade process, it should proceed from there OK.
Your proposed solution did help me because I was stuck (as apparently many other users) at the 0.1% after the iPAQ seemed to have lost its connection with the host computer.
A warning to other users attempting this upgrade. This process truly wipes out everything on your device, so DO make a backup first! I've used the iPAQ Backup utility (Programs > iPAQ Backup) to first make a full backup, then restore after this ROM upgrade. It did allow me to re-establish all of my settings and software from before (e.g. all personalized settings, installed full version of TomTom software, etc.). Without this I really would have had to restart all over again... a very long process. Only a few things did not come through and produced an error, specifically related to an installed utility of SpbSoftware and Total Commander which I fixed afterwards by reinstalling this software. The likely reason for that was that this software was earlier installed in the iPAQ File Store.
Also probably a good idea to remove all SD and Mini SD cards during the ROM upgrade... you never know...
Finally, ActiveSync had to synchronize again (I selected from my computer to the mobile device because I use Outlook on my computer as the source).
I see no immediate differences other than the new Quick GPS Connection icon which appears in the System Tray. I hope it will now also work "Quick"! The Today Panel also switches the storage icon back and forth between system storage and the inserted SD card... this may start annoying me soon so I hope I can find that preference setting to turn that off.
Anybody know where to download the ROM update for the ipa
http://www.hp.com, then go to Software & Driver downloads, fill in hw6515 (if that's your model) then be absolutely sure to select your correct model (a, b, c,...) this is very important to obtain the correct firmware. If selected incorrectly it won't work anyway, and note that not all firmware versions are available for all models specifications.
HP must have become aware of the issue posted in this thread and as of 26 Jul 2006 posted a newer version of the ROM 1.21 which "fixes an issue where the ROM Update Utility (RUU) included in the previous release may stop responding at 0.1 percent completion during the update". Please read all instructions carefully at http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/23727.html, noting that those who have already successfully upgraded don't have to do it again. But for those wanting to attempt the upgrade, download the correct sp33246.exe instead of sp31952.exe which was posted 26 May 2006.
Let me know if this helps (I hope it does).
Thanks!!! That got me out of the ipaq screen and back into the cingular screen, and hopefully it will work now. Thanks a million!!! Wahoooo
I just fixed my problem!!! I am running Vista Business on my gaming rig, and sync'd my Ipaq using Vista's integrated activesync. The integrated app doesn't recognize that the Ipaq is in flash mode, so it doesn't ever get past .1%. So, I sync'd it with my win xp lappy, and it worked. So, Vista Hates Ipaq's!!! But with active sync 4.2 and windows xp, it works.
Eventhough this fixed my problem, I wouldn't have a problem trading my Ipaq for an 8525

After ROM update I cant restore backup - any solution
I have finally successfully updated my hw6515d from ROM version 1.04.00 WWE to 1.21.32 WWE.
I made full backup before ROM update and want to make restore after competitions of update. But I got message:
"Device Mismatch
Restore cannot be completed successfully. The selected backup file was crated from a different type of mobile device."
Is there any solution to get data back on my iPAQ.
Please I have an iPaq HP 6515 that was originally in Spanish. I decided to update it to English. I was facing some problems and so I read in a forum that I can flash only the CE OS so I did that and update was successful later I realized that the phone had no network [radio absent]. I would like to know if it's possible to recfify this situation or is there any means that I will be able to revive my phone.
hi had same problem on my ipaq hw 6515c messenger phone this is how we solved it
1 RESET IPAQ USEING OFF BUTTON CAMERA BUTTON OR OFF BUTTON RESET BUTTON
2 IT SHOULD THEN GO INTO SETUP MODE DO THIS UNTILL YOU REACH TIME ZONE AND STOP
3 DOWN LOAD BIOS UPDATE FROM HP SITE FOR YOUR MODEL
4 LOAD FILE ONTO A PC RUNNING XP EARLY VERSION NOT THE LATEST (IT MAY WORK WITH LATER )
PUT PHONE IN SYNC CRADLE OR CONNECT WITH PC START BIOS UPDATE IT SHOULD GO IN ONCE DONE NORMAL RESET
asi say it worked on mine and also works on the 6900 good luck
I have the similar problem with my ipaq (6945), I mean I did bios update, when it is finished and restarted, it stayed on HP screen, I did hard and soft reset, it is not solved! I tried to do the instructions proposed here (get the battery out....) but it is not working because when I connect the device to the computer, it is not recognized, there is nothing to happen!!! I would be appreciated if anyone could help me and give me a solution...
