Q: What comes in the box.
A: In the HP UK version you will receive your HW6500 iPaq, Flip Cover (attached to the 6500) Belt Clip, Stereo headphones, Power Adapter (mine was a UK adapter, but I received a US power adapter with my eBay purchase) HP Cradle. iPAQ Companion CD (software), Getting Started manuals.

Q: How do I soft reset the 6500 series.
A: Use your stylus to press the reset button on the back of the device or you can remove the battery and then put it back in. This will clear the current memory.

Q: How do you hard reset the 6500 series.
A: While you press the power button you insert you stylus reset pin in the reset button on the back.

Q: Is there a memory upgrade available for the iPaq 6500 Series (HW6510 & HW6515).
A: Yes. Currently there are two companies offering a memory upgrade from 64MB RAM to 128MB RAM. I have put the links to the PPCTechs and Palm-Center threads below.

Q: Can you use WMA and MP3 files for ring tones.
A: You will need to add the .WMA files you want to use to the \windows\rings folder and they will be available for use as ring tones. (Thanks jpmihalk)

Q: How do you make themes that support 240x240 screen.
A: Theme Maker X supports the 240x240 screen resolution in addition to the other WMPC and WMSP screen resolutions. www.thememaker.biz/tmx.htm
If you use a MAC like me you are waiting for PocketMAC to add 240x240 to their Theme Maker. (I do have an XP box in my house so I will be converting to 240x240 themes )

Q: Is there a DUN option for the 6500 Series
A: Yes, member Asukal has found a way to get DUN working. You can find out more at this thread.

Q: What carriers will the 6500 series work on.
A: Any GSM based carrier will work with the an unlocked 6500 series iPAQ. When it is launched in the US you may find the US units locked to a specific carrier.

Q: Can you make the iPAQ File Store bigger.
A: Yes. Member dmc874 has created a way to do this. For everybody that wanted BIG STORAGE on the 6515 here you go. This does away with your extended ROM and makes the File Store 24 MB

Q: What options are out there for WiFi.
A: s4czech created a great thread at Daves IPAQ that goes into the Spectec MiniSD WiFi a GO! (in BOTH the miniSD and in SD+Adapter slot).

So you can have a miniSD WiFi that will also work in you SD slot with the included adapter.

Q: Does the integrated GPS turn off
A: From everything seen so far, the GPS is only on/off when you activate the GPS software. You can conserve battery power by turning off the GSM radio when its not needed.

Q: Can you adjust the text size on the 6500 series.
A: Yes. Special thanks to Clovis at Daves Ipaq.com who found this feature. Go to Settings => System => Screen and you can change the text size. By choosing a smaller text size it makes reading e-mail, calendars etc much better! (you also need to select ClearType).

Q: How do you store your attachments on the storage card.
A: Special thanks to iPAQsavy at Daves Ipaq.com who found this. Go to Messaging => Accounts => (Under New Account...) => Storage => tick Store attachments on storage card.

Q: What are the settings to use 6500 on Cingular.
A: The settings appear to be automatic, put your SIM card in and go. Unfortunately you cannot tell if your on GPRS or EDGE other than speed. But you can check out http://text.dslreports.com/tools to test your connection speed.

Q: Does Goodlink service work with the 6500 series.
A: Yes. Special thanks to dacostad at Daves Ipaq.com who found this answer. He set up Good Link on his 6500 recently and it works just fine. He also uses Mailstreet.com for outsourcing his Outlook and they also provide him with Goodlink service.

Q: How to save an incoming phone number.
A: First press green phone button => press up on the joystick to get to history =>
see history => tap and hold directly on the number => menu pops up => click save to contacts. Special thanks to s4czech for this answer.

Q: If I have a MAC what is the easiest way to get the CAB files for installation.

HW6500 Series Tips and Tricks

Accessing HP Profiles Menu:
Special thanks to Enrogue at Daves Ipaq.com who found if you hold down the Power button, the HP profiles menu pops up allowing you to do a number of things including changing your wireless settings, and changing your profile settings on the fly (which include Ring tones, Volume, Bluetooth Mode, GPRS, etc) - all one-handed of course.

Record audio of phone conversations:
Special thanks to s4czech who found you can record the audio of phone conversations. When you are in a phone call, you can record the conversation of both ends of the call. This can be helpful in cases like if you're asking for directions via 411 or other things, and don't forget to follow your local laws about this kind of thing.

Here is how you do it.
While in a phone call, go into speakerphone mode. You can either hold the green phone button, or click Tools => Speakerphone. (Note: If you don’t use speakerphone mode, the recording will be very faint/quiet).

Now, while in the phone call and in speakerphone mode . . .
- Click the Yellow notes icon next to tools
- (New screen appears) Click the tape icon next to tools
- Click the red record button

So far it appears to record up to 30 or 60 seconds of audio via this built in method. We might be able to record even more once Resco Audio Recorder supports 240x240 (they are working on it).

iPAQsavy also found another way to activate voice recording is hold the camera shortcut button for 3 seconds and release. It will activate voice recording during phone conversation without taking out stylus and it is all one hand operated

Let me clarify a couple of thinng (I spent quite some time on that sh...)

6515 can be used in Bluetooth(BT) Dial Up in 2 way

PC->BT->6515->Dial to GPRS where the 6515 is seen as a BT modem to the PC --> this works with nothing more needed than what come with the 6515 the only trick is that the number to be dialed must be *99# to connect to GPRS

Alternatively if it is the 6515 wanting to connect to the internet
6515->BT->GSM-Phone
then the driver provided by Asukal is needed (I guess this case is only applicable if you do not have a sim card in your 6515)

I have the HW6510 French localization and would like to make it English. I figure I have to reflash it with the English ROM Image. Is it right? If yes, where can I get it? How do I do it?

Can 6515 record video?

How does it access the internet? Using WLAN or cell network provided by Singular?

I have hw6515 in Spanish and want to change to English. The only way is to reflash the ROM and from what I could gather, HP will never tell you how to do it. Does a hard reset (press power and reset button together) mean that you reflash the ROM? If no, how on earth is this reflash done. From HP site I downloaded ROM update SP31927 English (the only ROM update available on HP site) but when I tried it it just said that the languages and ROM versions do not match. It is expecting to update from an english ROM not Spanish one.
My questions to all the wizards in here:
1: I repeat... does hard reset mean reflash?
2: How do I backup the ROM before I start just in case everything gets F****D up in the process?
3: I have seen comments on forums (even this one) claiming to have changed from French to English, and what have you! Is it something within the reach of simple minds, or should I stick to my PDA in Spanish and buy myself a dictionary?

ppcmd, sorry to bother you, but does any of our forum colleagues know how to reset the messaging without soft reset or even backin' up. I'm facing some problems with the Messaging, I did contact my carrier (vodafone spain) and follow all the given instructions and after all, I can receive mails, but not really able to send them therefore all the mails rest within the outbox folder for ever and ever.

could anyone help me

i checked this box and i dont see any files or folders going on either my sd card or mini sd card.. also.. what is first choice on the phone mini or full size sd when saving stuff?

I tried to setup such connection without success. My PC requires a bluetooth modem driver for 6515 to setup a GPRS dialup connection via 6515.
