Extended Rom Editor for 6515
OK. Here we go. I have put together an app to edit the extended ROM on the 6515. I am using some apps from over at xda-developers.com to acomplish some of it, so give those guys over there a big hand. OK.
2. Run the app and let it install. It will run a batch file at the end to install the system driver and insert registry changes. Let this run otherwise it will not run.
3. Reboot your PC.
4. After the reboot, look in your c:\ drive for a folder called iPAQDISK. Inside of there, there is a program call iPAQDISK.exe. Run this.
5. Mount the image to an available drive letter.
6. Make whatever changes you want to the extended ROM. Make sure you change the config.txt in there. Also, take out the lines in the config.txt to TPDisable and TPEnable. That way if you put a cab in there that requires attention (like coming up to say it was written for another version of windows like alot of 2003 cabs do on 2003 SE) you can do it. IF you do not do this and it gets stuck, the only way out is to reflash.
7. Unmount the disk.
8. Place your SD card in you SD card reader on your PC. Make sure there is nothing on the card you want to keep as this will wipe the card clean. Click to copy rom to SD card. A box will come up. Pick the drive letter that corresponds to your SD card and press GO. Wait until the black box goes away and close that box.
9. Then you need to remove the SD card from the reader and put it in your device. Boot into bootloader mode by pressing Power, Joystick Action, and Reset at the same time. It will go into bootloader mode and flash the device. This will take a while.
Remember that this is a complete flash so everything will be lost from the device so backup before you start.

OK. I am pretty sure I know what is going on. I tested this with two different cards before I posted it but I had done a device dump on each card. I think the dump formats the card special. So here is the instructions on how to do a dump before you do the flash.
2. Kill the activesynce process on your PC (the process is called wcescomm.exe)
3. Put the SD card in the device and boot into bootloader mode.
4. Cradle the device. Serial should change to USB
5. Start romupdate. On Ports pick the one that says \\ \WCEUSBSH001
6. On the screen type d2s. This will dump the device to the SD card. Pe patient as it does take a while.
7. Take the card out and reset.
8. Put the card back in the card reader. When/if windows asks if you want to format the card say no.
9. Follow the process to write the card and proceed like instructed before. On note, on the bootloader screen, it is dark, but it will ask you to presh power to begin flash.

Now to my question. I just did SD Backup of my current and original ROM. How can I make an Image of the current card (RAW Filesystem), before I overwrite it with the DATA you have supplied?
This is indeed a cool tool. But I get a message after downloading the sd card to de extended rom "checksum fail". The device works but I think the checksum fail message indicate that something is wrong. I only have one sd card to use, the original files on the mounted drive is saved to my hhd. Even with these original files I get the checksum error. Does somebody know's watt is coursing this error?
Thanks.
Vincent.

Hi dmc874,
It's a relieve that this "error" is not an real error. I dit not flash it twice.
Hi,
I'm trying to follow the instractions and flash using the SD. I got to this point after trying to upload the latest version via BlueTooth instead of using the cradle...
As the moment, the 6515 will upload the operating system, go through the "Tap screen" sequence and then start customization. At some point it goes to the bootloader screen and hangs there. I assume it will then try to load from the SD. I used IPAQDISK to create an image on the SD. Should it create a format unrecognized by Windows?
I then put the SD into the IPAQ, reset to bootloader mode (it goes there anyway) but nothing happens. Are there any other prerequsites for the 6515 to understand it has to boot from the SD? Power? Cradle?
Thanks,
DP63
I did until step 4; After that I do not understand the procedure, maybe because is not the rigth one for me.
What I want is to get access to the extended rom that is on the PDA , and delete some parts that are loaded, (.CAB that are from the Operator (MOVISTAR) to customize the GPRS, etc....).
I am in the folder that your soft create, and I see IPAQROOM.IMG, FIRST.IMG, and LAST.IMG
Could you please tell me if on the first step I need to have the IPAQ connected with ACTIVESYNC, or what I am doing wrong.
Thankx for the Help
