Ipaq 6515 GPS Update Files

I've searched this forum but did not find anything on this. If this is a repeat topic, I didn't find the earlier one.

I've had my Ipaq 6515 for a while now but found it quite frustrating having to update the GPS every 2 days. I've looked around to see if there was a way to change this and did find some people mentioning a 4 day updates.

I found a site that has the update files and noticed it had a 7 day update. I downloaded them and placed them on my Ipaq and the GPS was good for 7 days.

I looked in the registry and found a key that can be changed so the updates will be longer. I changed mine to 7 days and ran the update. It worked and now my GPS is good for 7 days instead of 2.

If anyone is interested, here is what I did.

A registry editor will be needed if anyone wants to do this. An editor I use is Tascal Tre and can be found here:
PDAgold.com :: Freeware :: Tascal Tre

The registry that needs to be changed is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GLOBAL LOCATE\LTO MANAGER\FILES\

Scroll down to find the key, RemotePath_0 and RemotePath_1. The key is defaulted for "2days\latest\lto.dat" and "2days\latest\svstatus.txt"

Change the 2days to 7days in both keys. You can not just put any amount of days in the key. There has to be an update that corresponds to the amount of days. I found quite a few people mentioning 4 day updates but they do not exist and the update software will just give an error. 7 day works fine for me.

Could you give us the address of the site, I would love to do this, and I can't find one...

Thanks !

You shouldn't need the site. All you need to do is change the registry and then connect your Ipaq through ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center (Vista). Once connected, you should be able to update directly through your PC.

I don't have the address of the site any more but I can see if I can find it again.

EDIT: Here is the download for the 7 day update:

Index of /7day/latest

I did exactly what you suggested, but only TRE.arm.cab who can be installed. I changed the key to 7 days, but I can't see any expiration changes in Quick GPS connection. I still see 2 days appears there. Any suggestion?

Cheers

Same problem

In fact, my iPaq was not able to reach the site Index of / (surely a DNS problerm from my provider) but I found the ip address of the server, which is Index of /

When I download files with the iPaq, it woks fine (7 days), but if Quick GPS is activated in the Activesync list, it Downloads the 2 days files, so I now do it manually, from the iPaq.

Thanks for the tip, anyway !

I just factory restored my Ipaq again and performed the registry change. It worked fine and will automatically update to 7 days. If you click on the GPS icon on the bottom right of the screen and select Settings instead of Download, you will see the time left until the files expire. Mine goes to 6 days and 22 hours after an update.

The registry editor I posted the link to is just one available. There are other freeware ones available.

I don't know about Activesync. I have updated my Ipaq numerous times through my PC but I'm running Vista and it doesn't use Activesync. It uses Windows Mobile Device Center. It works just like Activesync and I wouldn't think there would be any real difference updating files.

Press and hold the power button. While it's pressed, press the reset button on the bottom of the Ipaq with the stylus (Pen thing). That will factory restore the device.
