Stability issues

Hi!

I just recently bought a 6315. I am really satisfied with the features of it. BUT! During the first days it was pretty unstable (10-20 soft + 2-3 hard reset/day with very intensive and thorough use). I read in the forum that it is generally a good idea to flash it with 6365 software. I did so (set V.) and I thought it would become much more stable. To be honest with you guys, I don't really find it MUCH MORE stable... Nowadays I don't use it as much as in the first days (learning curve...) and it can work for 2-3 days(!) without a hard reset. Soft reset is way more frequent, 5-10 times a day, but I must admit I do use it a lot...

I have some questions:

1. I read that the Persistent Storage is only introduced in WM5. Is there any way to put calendar and task-list and SMS/email message data into IPAQ Storage area so that it doesn't wipe out with a hard reset? (I know, backup, backup)

2. Is there any way to run scripts on WM2003? The only thing I found was the SPB TestSuite, but it's extremely expensive plus I didn't find any crack

3. If there were any way to run a script I could assing one of the buttons on the side to do a full backup like after every calendar entry...

4. What softwares do you think it is worth using? I use SPB Pocket PC Plus (actually, this makes it a bit more stable...), SPB Weather, Total CMD, Sprite Backup, TCPMP and TomTom as of now)

5. I am pretty satisfied with the feature laundry-list and with the price attached to it... I was a bit afraid how slow it will be, but it is a very pleasant surprise. Tomtom 6.010 works great, bluetooth, wifi works fine.

6. Wifi had some issues but after I read what to do (put something under the battery to push down the part that has to be pushed down) it works just fine (sometimes even annoyingly fine - When I want to look at the GPS while it finds a network... This is why I changed the camera button into IPAQ Wireless button)

7. Some concerns: the audio volume is pretty low (even the speakerphone), the processor is not able to deal even with the hacked Skype (only chat). And this stability-issue bothers me a lot. I can't trust my life on it, but basically that's why I bought it...

8. I found that entering the start/settings/phone and changing the ringtone and pressing OK hangs the device. Soft reset or alt-tab or turning off the phone are the possible ways to get out from the endless loop.

9. Do you guys have any good ringtones to use? I'm surprised that it can't play mp3 as ringtone...

10. Sometimes the top of the screen around the clock changes color back to default blue (I use the green skin of SPB Pocket Plus) , it won't start any other programs (it doesn't find them) and soft reset doesn't help. It restarts, but the today screen doesn't show. I can soft reset multiple times, but nothing changes. Time for hard reset.

11. I could change the default directory for the notes application, so whatever I write is safe.

12. Is there any way to schedule tasks? Like playing an MP3, or copying files from place A to place B?

13. where exactly are the calendar/tasks/SMS messages stored in the file system?

14. Anybody ACB TaskMan serial?

I think I have some more questions, but that's it for now...

15. Is there a way to save custom text (like email address) somewhere and when typing it in it actually recognizes it as an english word?

If I remember correctly it's a hidden file pim.vol....not sure it is on this forum if you search for databases.

Good luck,

Thx for the answers, I will keep looking for this automatic backup-thing, because it's pretty annoying that I can't use it without backing up like hourly... and Sprite only knows daily backup...

I will do some more research to figure it out when does it freeze and what's the trigger event. As far as I exprienced under high stress it doesn't freeze. However, it freezes after a long period of stand-by. Interesting...

13. OK, I rephrase the question: is there any PIM software out there that actually stores the data in the ROM instead of the RAM?

2 toth.balazs.hun

Why didn't you upgrade your phone to 6365? Just curious...

Vadim: I did!

"I read in the forum that it is generally a good idea to flash it with 6365 software. I did so (set V.) and I thought it would become much more stable."

Now, after some weeks, with way less usage I don't encounter so many hiccups than before... Good sign... And with this PIM mirroring and daily 2-3 self-extracting backups I'm pretty happy with it.

The only thing I still don't understand is that when I change battery and/or get the SIM card out of it, it performs a hard reset. You would think that the backup NIMH battery is dead. However, it shows completely healthy in the software (100%). Still, I can't remove the battery without a hard reset. Kinda annoying... So whenever I want to change the battery I make a backup and with the new battery the first thing I do is to restore it.
