Dialling a modem from a HP6365

I just wondered if anybody has ever managed this. I downloaded a terminal programme from a company called cambridge but I can't get it to work for the life of me. Part of my job entails dialling into sites and altering or interrogating data. It would make life so much easier if I could get this going. I should add that I am in Australia using Optus as my carrier and they are no great help. Alternately can anyone advise another way of doing this?

Thanks in advance

i'm assuming the client you downloaded is some sort of ssh/telnet type client. now the part i'm unclear on is that are you dialing in to the computer directly? or are you just using the application to connect to the computer's address.

if you're using the application to connect to the computer then there might be a problem with Optus not allow you to use their internet to connect to telnet/ssh terminals.

if you're dialing in the computer directly then you would need to setup the configuration in Start---Settings--Connections----Connections and go about it from there.

I hope that heads you off in the correct direction.

Cheers,

Perhaps I should elaborate out on site is a piece of equipment that has an RS232 out with a modem connected to it which in turn is connected to a land line. Normally I go to the office set up my laptop and using it's modem connected to a land line I dial in and "tweak" data. What I want to do is get out of going to the office and use my ipaq. The software I have found is here...
http://www.cam.com/pkhpc.html
But the software company can't help because they don't know either the Ipaq that well or the carrier's set up. HP won't help because they don't know the other two companies products and the carrier also for the same reasons. I've been going round in circles for ages. I tried setting up a new connection but it doesn't even ring the modem before it comes back and tells me there is no modem on that number. It even does that when I set it up as a work number!

Okay I'm assuming your laptop doesn't have a modem seeing that you need to connect to this device via a serial (RS232) port.

The number you dial...is that an actual phone number or a special number?

I don't have this unit with me anymore, however, from what I remember the procedure should be the same.

Start---Settings----Connections---Connections

Tap on "Add a new modem connection"
For the name of the connection enter "TEST CONNECTION"
For the "Select a modem:" select Cellular Line
Tap Next
Enter in your home number here just the way you would dial it from the phone.
Tap Next
User Name: Test
Password: Dummy
Tap Finish

Now tap on "Manage existing connections"
You'll see your connection there
Right click on your connection (tap and hold down) and select connect.

Wait for your home phone to ring. If it rings we've established you can call out to an ISP. If it doesn't ring...well now we have a different problem all together.

I lodged a support request with HP and must admit I cheated in that I lodged it from work thinking my employers name would give some weight to the request as I work for a rather prestigious IT company (which rivals Hp for size). I got the lame answer that the Ipaq 6365 can't act as a modem. I have requested clarification of why the user guide and the software on the unit it's self implies that it will! I'm not holding my breath.

My laptop does have a modem but I am trying to use the Ipaq to do the job so that I don't have to get to a land line to put that modem to use. Even if I try to set up a work connection as if it is a dial up modem and then try to connect it still comes back with the message that there isn't a modem on that number without even ringing the number (and I have tried using my home number as the destination to see if it actually dials). I must admit I haven't tried entering a user name and password.

I should also say thanks as you seem the only person who has even attempted to help in about a year of trying to get this working.

Well if you choose the Cellular Line option when making a new connection you need to input a user name and password for it to attempt to dial out. Try inputting that information and see if you can get your home line to ring.

Even that won't make it dial out. it still comes back telling me there isn't a modem on that number without even ringing it.

R4+Z,

It seems like there's something wrong with your device then if it won't even do that. I know I was able to do this with my iPAQ (when I had it) because I would need to do something similar to what you need to do....

You might want to get it checked out...or at the very least ask HP about how to get it to work correctly. Just tell them you want use the iPAQ to dial up to your ISP (your ISP being your home phone.)

Unhappy how to get hp ipaq 6365 into bootloader mode?

Hey all, does anyone know how to get into the bootloader mode of hp ipaq 6365? I tried updating ROM 1.11 version into it, but i always get an error 608: ruuclientdriver.dll could not initialize the device. I just haven't been able to update the ROM image.

Now, i am trying to update through the bootloader program but i simply dont know how to get my phone in bootloader mode. Also, it would be great if anyone could teach how to update ROM from SD card?

Right now, i havent been able to use my phone. My phone only goes up till the align tap screen after which i cant do anything with my phone. Please help !!!!!!
