Virgultex: I'm sorry but no response from HP. Either they are in shock about this (which I doubt) or they simply don't give the 6300 familiy priority as far as their development.
As far as the Original 6315 ROM - just get it from HP site.
i've seen the h6315 of a friend with rom 1.00.10 and everithing works fine... does anybody know where to find that rom? has anybody else the same rom and no problems?
I have the same problem, and I am fixing it same way is Barrr. However, recently it takes more and more time for little WiFi icon to appear on the tope of the screen (and than I tap on it and click "turn off WiFi).
The whole thing is MUCH anoying, and I was looking into ways how to solve this, but cannot find it.
Funny thing is that this started happening to me after I connected to WiFi network in hotel Intercontitental in Cairo, what might not have to do anything with this, but this is how the whole thing started.
Is there a way to push HP to look into the problem?
To be honest, I haven't noticed missign WiFi Tab, I was only truing to go through HP Wireless and no mather how many times I click on WiFi to turn off, it is not turning off.
Also, I have the same problem if I turn ON the WiFi. iPAQ slows down (practically blocks) and I have all of the same simptomes as with the SR.
I have the same problem and somebody in this thread suggested to smack the pda at the back and I think people thought it is a crazy idea but I tried it and whala the wifi works now! it sounds like crazy but it works try it.
OK I give up!!! After all of you have tried it successfully I decided I can not be so stubborn and I have to test this "smack" trick. What do you know - it works. HP - this is high tech at its best. Is it an extra hardware button you have hidden in the 6315 no one knows about? We are so proud of you!!! Anyways it works - so to summarize this nightmare: if you have a non working WiFi just because it does not turn off and it does not show the Wireless TAB in the WiFi Settings that means this is the solution for you. Hold the iPAQ with your strong hand and smack it on the back. Your WiFi will appear instantly.
Also, put a business card under the battery. It will constantly press the iPAQ and WiFi hopefully will always appear. Mine does.
so now we know the answer to this problem the person who originally suggested this sulotion needs to be congratulated. on my way to the bank my phone fell and I turned on the wifi and the tab was gone again but I did not worry about it because I already knew the solution I gave my pda a smack at the back and whala its back to business again.
For all you guys out there who have this problem I have submitted this case to HP:
Case ID: 1212369985
Submitted: 2006-08-12 07:52:15 GMT+02:00
Problem description :
This seems like a universal problem because I hear this from
many people over the Internet Forums everywhere. I have both
H6365 and H6315 in my company. The problem with the 6315 is
that after SR the WiFi is on but the WiFi Settings don't show
the Wireless TAB, only the Network Adaptors TAB shows. In this
situation it is not possible to turn WiFi off. This also locks
the phone and makes it extremely slow after 20-30 seconds of
use. In fact it is impossible to use the device this way. When
the device comes up this way the connectivity icon shows G for
the GPRS service and the WiFi antenna is not there. Also on the
iPAQ Wireless program the WiFi button is brown and the WiFi LED
blinks orange. It is impossible to turn WiFi off in this
situation.
People all over have tried a million solutions but I personally
think it's a software bug. I was able to tease the device with
numerous SR's, sometimes after a SR the device comes back with
the connectivity icon showing the WiFi antenna and then it is
possible to turn the WiFi OFF. A self test on the WiFi only
sometimes works too and jogs something internally that makes
the device show it's WiFi Wireless TAB and then it is possible
to turn the WiFi off.
I think it's time for HP to do something about this for its
H6315 users and maybe for other 63XX users who encounter this
problem. Please take care of this.
Did you ever get a reply back to your HP Case? I have the same problem and will be sending my unit in for repair as it is out of warranty. I have the additional annoying feature where the phone will totally lock up and the battery will discharge within a few hours, wiping everything off the phone. Even an automatic iPAQ backup configured to run at 30% battery life doesn't get the chance to run.

That's too much of a coincidence, as my phone started to exhibit this behaviour after connecting to WiFi in a hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia!
Well smack it on the back - just do it !!!
And regarding my case - here's how it went. HPrefered it to the local HP people in Israel and they told me they don't support the 6315. What a joke !!!!
Hey, I also have an HP iPaq 6365 and I was just about to say how I tried all of those techniques to fix the wireless problem. I figured, aww heck, why not give it one last try....~SMACK~ nope! Then I look up and started typing when I hear this little chime. I looked down to see the different wireless networks it had found and the WiFi symbol at the top instead of that annoying little |G|. Gotta love it. I read somewhere else that HP never really got out of the Beta stages in the testing of the HP iPaq, but they decided to put in on the market anyway. They're aware of the problems, but probably won't respond to any of the hundreds of people reporting problems with the iPaq. It really is a nice device and all, once you get to know the little quirks about it and the considerably unorthodox ways of solving problems...SMACK... Those little quirks really almost make me want to by an O2. Well, I still lilke my HP, and I think I'll keep using it until I find a problem that I really can't fix in a cost effective manner.
The joys of now owning a HTC Wizard. I've had a Qtek 9100 for almost a year, and I'll never own another HP PDA again until they get their feces consolidated.
