FAQ: How to Obtain an Unlock Code For The H6315

Want to unlock your phone? Follow these instructions.

First obtain and unlock code:

Through Tmobile: Tmobile's policy is that you have to be a customer of theirs for 90 consecutive days before they will give you the unlock code for your H6315. They are quite strict on this policy and chances are they wont budge. If you have been a customer of theirs for 90 consecutive days, call their customer service at 1-800-T-MOBILE. You'll have to provide them your account information and your phone's IMEI number. If you discontinue your service with Tmobile, you have to ask for your unlock code within 90 days of leaving their service, after that you're out of luck. There is an exception to this rule: If you bought your phone directly from Tmobile and paid full price (no contract deal) then you can get it unlocked right away, as long as you still have the reciept. (Thanks to lvlolvlo for some of this info.)

Through an Unlocking Service: Many people have an "in" with Tmobile and can unlock your phone for a fee. These people can be found on forums, on eBay, or even in markets and in shady cell phone stores. I dont think its illegal, but its probably against Tmobile policy, however, they cant stop you. Be weary of who you buy from, especially in forums. eBay offers a level of protection if you buy through Paypal and the auction has buyer protection. Make sure to check the seller's feedback and always correspond with them through the "ask seller a question" feature, not directly to their email address. Click here to browse eBay for unlocking services. Also check out http://www.ipaqunlock.com.

Through another Tmobile Customer: Other customers may choose not to unlock their own phones, so they can use their unlocking privelege to unlock yours. It is rumoured that a Tmobile customer can unlock as many devices as he wishes, but only 1 device every 90 days. So if customer "John" signs up with Tmobile on Jan 1st, he can unlock his phone on April 1st, and he can unlock someone else's phone on July 1st, etc. If this is true, one could easily sell an unlock code on ebay every 90 days to make an extra buck. Try it out.
Currently there is no known software that can generate unlock codes, and there is no "master" unlock code, each code is unique to each phone.

Then unlock your phone: Once you obtain an unlock code, make sure the phone radio is activated by enabling it in the "iPAQ Wireless" utility. Also make sure you have a Tmobile SIM card inserted. Then follow these steps to unlock your phone:

Go to Start > Settings > Phone Band.
Open the on-screen keyboard and tap "Shift" and then "Ctl".
Tap the area below the band selection box. The unlock tool will appear.
Enter your unlock code and click "OK".
The device will validate the unlock code and return one of the following results:

Unlock successful.
Unlock failed due to incorrect code. The user has three attempts to unlock. After three attempts, the device will refuse any more unlocking attempts. Perform a soft reset to reset the counter to perform additional unlocking attempts.
Device is not ready for unlocking. This error message displays when the user tries to unlock when the phone application (not the device) is not in a steady state. It takes 30 seconds after powering on the phone for it to reach a steady state.
Thanks to "equus" for providing the original version of these instructions. Thanks to lvlolvlo and others for providing some of the information in this post.

I ordered myself a h6315 now and will be recieving it soon (i hope), but one question stays for the unlocking. After having arranged myself a "unlock" code, do i need a T-Mobile SIM card in order to enter the code, or can i use any Provider SIM card ?
This question here came up, after i had browsed some ebay offers, and where one of them said "You need a T-Mobile SIM" in order to preform the unlocking.

Thanks

Whuzzy

I'm not positive but as I recall, you do have to have a Tmobile SIM card to do the process. I added this to my instructions. Can someone else please verify this? Thanks.

If you dont have a Tmobile SIM card, I'm pretty sure you can buy them on eBay for about $0.25.

Just as a little notice, until now i cannot recommend http://www.ipaqunlock.com to anybody, i passed in my order on the 16th of June and have not recieved any replies until now. Also the 2 re-request e-mails have just been ignored.

I'll take back this post as soon as something positive in that sense happens

And the thing with the SIM card i'm gonna try it out, and then give an update about it, the IPAQ functions work properly with both SIM cards (T-Mobile & Non T-Mobile) but as for the unlocking process i'm not sure if it needs a T-Mobile SIM ... willsee once i get my code

Have a nice day.

Problems that arise when attempting to unlock the:

h6315
In my opinion, the 'h6315 unlockers' out there can generally be divided into 3 types.

type I
Went through the trouble and jumped all the hoops to obtain a valid unlock code, and was sucessful in unlocking the phone.
-these people don't have to worry about anything. THERE IS NO PROBLEM

type II
As type I, but cannot seem to get the phone to read the SIM card -- EVER --- for hours and hours. Even after following all the unlocking instructions (settings > phone band >....ctrlshift....), still nothing

"unknown SIM status"
"your device is not ready for unlocking"
These phrases should look familiar to these folks.

type III
People who have not obtain an unlock code.
xx------------------------------------------------------------xx
For the type 3'ers, the only ways I know are to
1) Obtain one from T-mobile (ONLY for contracts 90days and up)
2) Obtain one from some one with access
3) Obtain one via internet or other paid service (those people have access, you just gotta pay them)
-And i am pretty sure that these are the ONLY methods, to date, to obtain a valid code.

I, myself, is a type II'er, and have search many forums including this one to try find a way to get the stupid thing to take the stupid unlocking code. Frustrated as I am, the SIM card is STILL initializing, like it was 4 days ago.
I have 3 different Canadian SIM cards from different companies, none of it works. I have heard that you cannot unlock the phone with a Tmo SIM, but is possible with another US SIM.

My friend told me that the machine SHOULD prompt you for the unlocking code right away after it reads the info from the SIM - instead of going to settings and the phone band and stuff- ,
is this accurate as well?
Any other type II'ers out there?

Unhappy I'm a Type II as well, Three3!!!

I am in the same position as you, Three3. I live in Vancouver and have purchased an "unlocked" phone from ebay only to find out that it isn't actually unlocked! Fortunately, the guy I bought it from has been very cooperative. So far here's what we've done:

1. Paid some guy on ebay to get an unlock code...the code was received but it wouldn't unlock the phone!

2. The guy I bought the phone from requests the unlock code from T-mobile (I didn't believe that the guy we paid gave us the right code)...turns out to be exactly the same code as I already had...back to square 1.

NB. I have tried unlocking the phone with 4 different SIM cards...an ACTIVE rogers, ACTIVE fido, INACTIVE fido, and VIRGIN t-mobile. All have failed to unlock the phone. The rogers and FIDO SIMs simply give "device not ready to be unlocked" and the t-mobile SIM gives "unlock code not accepted"! What to do?

3. I called T-mobile customer support and, in a nut shell, they told me that I need to be connected to the T-mobile network in order to unlock my phone (i.e. I need to have an ACTIVE t-mobile SIM card)...luckily for me the guy I bought it from is a t-mobile subsciber and he has agreed to mail me his SIM card to attempt to unlock it whilst "on" the network...I'll have to see if this works...I'll let you know if it does.

Otherwise, I have no other choice but to return the phone and request for my money back.

I sure hope everything works out for you, chinesejpl. But the truth is, most of the people from the Tmo customer support know more about time travel than troubleshooting h6315. In fact, I regret to tell you that I have tried, using a Tmo sim card, to try to unlock the phone.

Now, unless the unlock code is wrong, (I sure hope not), I can tell you that it didn't work. But the message that came out from attempting to unlock the phone was that the unlock code is wrong.

And the thing is, many people unlocked it without connection to the Tmo network like you said, using a foriegn SIM card too, I think.

So in conclusion ---> *shrug*, no idea.

But if it works, may be you can lend me that SIM card of yours after I go get a new unlocking code. LOL I will treat you to a drink even.

Three3, did you try unlocking the phone with an activated (i.e. subscribed) T-mobile SIM? B/c I've also tried with a virgin SIM to no avail!

I'll try it when I get the SIM...should be sometime in the next couple of days.

The thing with my situation is that this phone was PREVIOUSLY unlocked! The guy I bought it from bought it from another ebayer who declared it as "unlocked"...The guy I bought it from even used his Cingular SIM card in the phone with no problems. I'm not sure how the phone got to be locked again (I think he upgraded the ROM) but it is locked! So I know (or at least I think I know) that the phone I have can be unlocked...

I'll be sure to let you know.

Hey JNC, you probably shouldn't post your problem on so many different threads. If you are looking for an unlocking code, ebay is a very good bet. Most of them out there are being sold at around $50 - 60USD a piece and as you might have already figured out, all you have to do is pay them and give them your IMEI #.
Of course, you can also wait for a Tmo user to come along and help you out. Any Tmo user with an active contract (over 90 days) are allowed to obtain an unlocking code; then, another 90 days after that for another one. But the thing is, a lot of them want to keep this prilvilege in case they might need it.
So yeah, good luck.

I wanted to share my experience with you. I bought 3 piece of t-mobile locked h6315 and living outside of US. I tried everything with local providers sim but device always said " device is not ready". After I obtained the prepaid t-mobile sim card. Yes device searched and found the networks but did not allowed to network because of prepaid sims are closed to international roaming. Without connected I tried to enter the unlock code, device said " incorrect code". I double checked the code and IMEI s are correct. But there is something wrong that I didnt understand. I bought these 3 device from 3 different sellers so I dont think all of them are out of order. In this point; is there anybody knows that:
1. Can be t
