App to edit Extended ROM

OK. It works. I will work later to make it prettier and smarter, but it works now on XP,2000,NT. Not sure about 98. Unzip the file to your c:\ drive and it will create the iPAQDISK folder automatically. Inside of that folder is a batch file named install.bat. Run that. It will copy a driver over and import some registry settings. Allow it to make the changes then reboot your machine. When it comes back up, go back into the iPAQDISK foulder and run iPAQKDISK. First highlight an unused drive and click on mount. Leave the program running and make anychanges to the image just like any other drive on your system. Anything you want installed on a hard reset needs to go in the config folder and you can only put cab's in there. When you are finished, unmount the drive. Then click on Make ROM. This will produce an iPAQROM.nbf file. Put this in your flash directory and you are ready to flash.

Well the file is too big to upload here by just a bit so I will put it on a temp host until someone gets here that has a good server. For now it is located

HERE

OK. Thanks to lvlolvlo for again providing space for me, the link should work now. IF nothing shows up, hit F5 to refresh. iPAQDISK.zip is the app to mount the image and edit. TMOBILERST.zip is the flash utility to flash the EXT ROM thanks to beaups.

Forgive the newbish question. Can this be used to remove apps such as HP image capture, ClearVue PDF, etc?

Nope. Those are in the main OS ROM and not the extended ROM. The only thing you can really remove from the extended ROM that is a PIA is the advertising that pops up after a hard reboot (HP Print, T-Mobile HotSpot, etc)

Oh and thanks Beaups. Wouldn't have been possible without your work though. Thank you.

OK, this sounds great! How much room does this give? Will using this space affect the size of the File Store? Suggestions on what might be profitably loaded here?

Thanks to the people on this forum who are always smart enough to figure out how to make things really work.

The extended ROM is 4MB. It doesn't affect the File Store in any way. Well, I have put my registry editor in there along with my corporate email remote PDA client (I hate Groupwise). Any CAB you find yourself always reinstalling after a hard reset is a candidate to go in there. And it does not matter if interaction is needed on install because it will just pop up after the manditory tutorial. BTW if you want to remove the advertising it is located in \RES\Intro You can delete all three. I have done it and it doesn't hurt anything.

I've got a h6365, how can I create an image file of my ExtRom for editing with your tool?

You can use the same one. If you want a base of what came with the 6365 upgrade, I can strip the one file down and send it to you and just replace it in c:\iPAQDISK

Extract this file and put it in the iPAQDISK directory. Make sure you unmount anything before you replace the file.
Attached Files
File Type: zip ipaqrom-6365.zip (314.5 KB, 3780 views)

great, thanks, but how did you extract only the extrom from the update?

( note: I'm Not using a 6315 with the 6365 rom upgrade, mine's an original h6365 and i'm using the official HP ROM update 1.00.38 )

The EXT ROM is a separate nbf (iPAQROM.nbf) I just stripped off the header since they are the same

Has anyone figured out how to port WMP 10 to the 6315. Now that would definitely be something.

Again. That is in the Main OS ROM. Have not put too much effort into it yet.

ohhhh, you said yet! does this mean you plan on looking into modding the OS ROM? I like many others I'm sure would love to have WMP10. Since it's highly doubtful we'll see an update from HP for it. BTW, you really are The Man!

Cheers

I'm having a problem, I intend to mix the official iPAQ h6365 ROM(1.00.38 ) with the new h6315 ROM(1.10.08 ), but only the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GSM part, and include my extrom.

So far I've only made and flashed the iPAQ with my extrom, but I get a crc error for the other files, how can I solve this?

And does anyone know what are the correct bmp format for the splash image? where it should be white there's green lol

thanks in advance

crc error is solved by modification to the ipaqpcsdk.dll. See threade "successfully flashed 6315 with 6365 ROM" for info on how to modify the file to bypass the CRC check

So if I just want to add things to my extended ROM and I use the TMOBILERST.zip flash utility, then only the extended ROM gets flashed, right? I am thinking about making myself a custom splash image, but I don't feel like going through a hard reset scenario. So can I assume that a hard reset will not occur?
