What a pity! Please, more details...

I'm run the hpRUU.exe from dir TMOBILERST.zip with changed iPAQROM.nbf. After detecting my PDA, program say:
"Incorrect device SKU! Update cannot continue.
Current information about you iPAQ Pocket PC:
Model ID: HP iPAQ h6340
ROM Version: 1.11.10 ENG
Language: English
This upgrade is for:
Model ID: HP iPAQ h631x
ROM Version: 1.0.6.8
Language: English"

It's a sad truth...

For dmc874: Dave, I'm find this resolve many time ago. Give me hope...

Dmc874, it's work.

1. In your program in dir iPAQDISK I see header.img and iPAQROM.img, summary size 4196904.
2. In dir c:\ipaq\sp30391, which created after install official update (version of ROM 1.11.10 ENG in this example) from HP I see iPAQROM.nbf too. Size of iPAQROM.nbf is 4196904 too.
3. With any program (for example, FAR) in "hand"-mode separate this iPAQROM.nbf from HP on two part. First part must have size equal your header.img, second part - remainder. Renamed both part in header.img and iPAQROM.img, copy both to the dir with replacing original header.img and iPAQROM.img, mount drive and make changes in mounted drive and make ROM with your program and flash PDA with TMOBILERST.zip. And see, that iPAQROM.nbf from official update (version of ROM 1.11.10) and iPAQROM.nbf from your program (on make it without cganges) is different. For example, I can't see any Tmobile's files.
4. IIWPO has been installed.

Thank you very much.

OK. I think I see what you did. I am sorry I didn't get back with you but I read your post and got busy and forgot to come back. Basically you need to change the header to match you device. You did this by splitting the upgrade nbf from an HP upgrade with a program splitter, essentioally splitting off the header and appending it to the modified version.

So I have made my custom Extended ROM image using the iPAQDISK program (thanks guys!) and have the iPAQROM.nbf file ready to go ready to be flashed.

So, where do I find this TMOBILERST.zip file to do the flashing? All links to it seem dead. Or is this something I can get from HP?

Thanks a bunch

Flash went without a hitch. Did not even have to go in bootloader mode.

The grand plan is to make some cab files full of registry entries and put 2MB worth of apps in the extended rom that will run directly from there. Similiar to what T-Mobile is already doing with their IM clients and other misc applications. I believe Visual Studio 2005 can make cab files with registry entries for mobile devices. I'll have to play with that a bit.

Now if I can only figure out the color palette for the splash screen. Made a custom splash screen, shifted the colors, saved as 16 bit, and still got crappy colors when viewing from a soft reset. Read the thread related to splash screen colors, but I must be missing something.

it takes a little playing to get the right color palette.....which is why i just had mine very basic....(hint it's pretty much like my avtar )

btw...Win CE Cab Manager will allow you to make cabs, however it comes with a heavy price tag. But at the same ime it allows you a 15 launch trial....

Hi, all

I just find this GREAT thread !!

I have a few questions regarding the extend rom,

1. If I add apps (cab format) into extend_rom, after every hard reset, these apps will be installed in Rom, not in Ram, right ?

2. All the iPAQDISK.zip links in this thread are down, can anyone upload it to somewhere, such as rapidshare ?

3. I use h6315 with T-Mobile. The iPAQROM.img in this thread has a Carrier-gen.ver, does that matter ?

4. I flash my ppc w/ lvlolvlo's Set IV ROM from here, the description of the Set IV ROM says "Please be advised, after you install this ROM you will have two applications installed on your unit:

First called psShutXP which allows you to shut off, soft reset, hard reset, and turn the backlight off on your device. For more information on this product visit Utility for Pocket PC - psShutXP - turn off, display off and restart your PocketPC, PPCSoft
Second called PhonePlus v3.04 which allows you to dial contacts by their name. Try it to see what I mean. For more information on this product visit ME Software - PhonePlus!

I can erase thes two apps after flash, I'm just wondering are the apps in ROM ? Because I think I can't erase files from rom in normal mode.
