What else can be done by this modification of ROM?
With all due respect to the person who made this utility, may I ask what else (other than adding some CABs to the Extended ROM) can be modified in the ROM? I ask this because, the Ext ROM being only 4 MB, I can't put even one decent prog that I always install after a Hard Reset. These being Pocket Informant, Pocket Plus, Photo Contacts, Sprite Software, which r the only softwares I install to the Main Memory. The rest go to the Storage Card. Each of the above are pretty large and don't fit in the available 2.95 MB of ROM available.
Seeing so many ppl interested in this ROM modding, I am really curious to know if there is anything else that u experts do with the ROM that can be of some advantage.

I have a few small progs that are just a pain to reinstall everytime-mainly because I am lazy. My reg editor and remote (so I can control the PPC on my PC) are two of them. I also have a third party app to sync my corp email that is in there (We have Groupwise so it has to be difficult.) Anything large is obviously not going to fit.

I have recently acquired a hp6365, and was interested in dropping a few files into my extended ROM.
The filesystem driver didn't work for me; however I was able to use UltraISO to create the image correctly.
However, I can't seem to get the custom extended rom flashed into my unit.
(Custom rom was created with mount.bat, iPAQROM.img (edited with UltraISO), header.img from iPAQDISK.zip
#1: I'm using the updater SP30393 downloaded from here. (HP iPAQ ROM Update Utility 2.02.011) with hpRUU.ini edited to just make use of iPAQROM.nbf
I get the following message:
Quote:
Error 512: ROM IMAGE SPECIFIED IN HPRUU.INI IS INVALID
hpRUU.ini contains a ROM image that is not of the specified type. hpRUU will not continue to prevent damaging your device. Check the syntax of hpRUU.ini file and restart the application
I also get the same error if I use iPAQROM.nbf from TMOBILERST.zip
It works well when I use the original iPAQROM.nbf
#2: I've tried using the updater TMOBILERST.zip downloaded from here (HP iPAQ ROM Update Utility 2.02.006).
I get the following error:
Quote:
Incorrect device SKU! Update cannot continue.
Current information about your iPAQ Pocket PC:
Model ID: HP iPAQ 6365
ROM Version: 1.1.10 ENG
LanguagE: English
This upgrade is for:
Model ID: HP iPAQ h631x
ROM Version: 1.0.68
Language: English
It works well when I use the original iPAQROM.nbf from SP30393.
---
I'm guessing it's just a difference of headers, and would be grateful if somone could extract (or explain how I may extract) the header.img and iPAQROM.img from iPAQROM.nbf for hp6365 units from SP30393.

I am working on a new header file for you now. I deleted all that stuff so I am having to download it again and create it. I will have it up in a few minutes.

Here is the header file for a 6365. Drop this in the iPAQDISK directory and erase the .zip from the end. It is not zipped because I was too lazy to do it, I just renamed it.

Hi!
I have iPAQ 6340 and can I use this program for my 6340?
I'm download iPAQDISK.zip (size 1120078), then run install.bat, reset PC and run iPAQDISK.exe, mount drive x: and open this drive. I can see dirs:
Config
Program Files
Recycled [hidden dir] - may be from Win2000?
Res
Splash
and one file with name "Carrier-TMO.ver"
Where I must save my cab-file (for example IIWPO)? I copy the IIWPO to Config dir, right? And I can't find the file "config.txt"...
Then I make .nbf and save it to the SD. In bootloader (BL on the PDA) I can't start load .nbf from SD. Also I can't start in BL-mode with TTY (type r2sd) - nothing.
P.S. Version of ROM 1.11.10 ENG

OK. Your are thinking of the XDA stuff too much here. There is no config.txt. Whatever is in the directory gets installed. And you do not install this from the SD card. You have to use the flash program to flash the extended ROM.

Why I can't to use the MTTY (so-called romupdate.exe)? Or all resolves of this problem are wrong?
Where I can find another program to flash the extended ROM and that is her name? I don't understand and don't know anything.
My operations for make dump ROM to the SD (step-by-step like describe in HP iPAQ hw65xx Discussion » Extended Rom Editor for 6515):
1. Download romupdate at http://www.filefarmer.com/dmc874/romupdate.exe
2. Kill the activesynce process on your PC (the process is called wcescomm.exe)
3. Put the SD card in the device and boot into bootloader mode.
4. Cradle the device. Serial should change to USB
5. Start romupdate. On Ports pick the one that says \\ \WCEUSBSH001
6. On the screen type d2s. This will dump the device to the SD card.
... And nothing. On the mtty screen I see groups of unreadable symbols and after 30 minutes I kill this process.
Also, if I understand anything, for flash ROM from SD I must save .nbf to the SD, put SD in the PDA, kill the activesynce process on your PC, start romupdate and on the screen of mtty type s2d... Isn't it? Nothing.
Also, this program iPAQDISK have a name "6315 Extended Rom Editor" and in .zip contain header.img and iPAQROM.img from iPAQ6315, isn't it? I.e. this program use these files for mount disk. Can I use it on the 6340 with any version ROM? In Russia we don't have T-Mobile...

OK. I see where your confusion lies. The above instructions are for the 6515 but the program you are trying to use is for the 6315
The 6515 is made by HTC while the 6315/6340/6365 is not. You have already done the changes you want to the extended ROM then download this:

OK, thank you very much. I see.
But I don't make dump of ROM in my 6340 in case of need?
Another question:
1. In your program in dir iPAQDISK I see header.img and iPAQROM.img, summary size 4196904. After make ROM I found iPAQROM.nbf with size equal summary these files.
2. In dir c:\ipaq\sp30391, which created after install official update (version of ROM 1.11.10 ENG in this example) from HP I see iPAQROM.nbf too. Size of iPAQROM.nbf is 4196904 too.
3. May I (with any program) separate this iPAQROM.nbf from HP on two part (header.img and iPAQROM.img), make changes in mounted drive with your program, make ROM and flash PDA? Because I'm not sure, that next official update (version of ROM 1.1x.xx ENG for example) will be compatible with changed "my ROM" from your program, excuse me... And I suspect of iPAQROM.nbf from official update (version of ROM 1.11.10) and iPAQROM.nbf from your program (on make it without cganges) is different. I found 10 difference after compare these files in bin mode.
4. TMOBILERST.zip containes files like files in dir c:\ipaq\sp30391, except different size of hpRU.ini, readme.txt, RUUClientDriver.dll (I don't compare all files in bin mode) and in c:\ipaq\sp30391 I found another files (P5186B.nbf, P5186D.nbf, P5186E.nbf, xip.nbf). Why? May I use c:\ipaq\sp30391 with changed iPAQROM.nbf for flash ROM or I must TMOBILERST.zip?

It will not bother a future upgrade. You are only flashing the extended ROM and not the main ROM. Those are alot of the same files only editied to make them work.
