Yes I have changed the ROM. I tried to make my own ext. ROM However it did not turn out the way I wanted. So I changed back using the files you supplied. I missed the note on boot loader mode until I came back here to review the thread. When I noticed the note, I said (To myself) Woops... Oh well worked anyway. I then started to wonder if there were side effects from not using bootloader mode so I posted the reply, hoping you would enlighten me of any issues I may have caused.

Nope. The reason for using BL mode is for it to work at all. Most of the time it will come back and give an error saying it can't flash unless it is in BL mode, so no, you did not mess anything up. As far as creating your own ext ROM, what problems did you have with it?

I flashed my h6365 to the latest rom 1.10.08, but now not able to reflash it to the original v1.00.38. It seems the latest rom doesn't allow the ipaq to charge when docked to the cradle. I tried combinations of USB charging selection, WI-FI, BT, and Flight mode enabled/disabled, but no success.
This is an incredible forum. I have no knowledge of the technicalities behind your instructions, but I was able flash the Extended ROM just by following them!
Just 2 Qns:
I put my CAB files in a subfolder like you guys advised - Program Files folder in the iPAQ ROM.
1. Are these CAB files automatically installed upon the Hard Reset, or do i have to click on them?
2. Should I hard reset again, will these CAB files still be there since they have been installed once already?
Please forgive the basic nature of these Qns! Thanks!
since the ext rom is locked and the os can't delete them.
But you can delete files from the extrom, at least the boot image, I did it by mistake, didn't try to delete the cab files though.

Why does it keep reinstalling my CABs after every soft resets???
I had the same problem, spb pocket plus and a .cab I made to add some reg values were causing the problem, try to find out wich of the cab files is causing the problem.. I did it testing one by one..
also, disable the win xp recycle bin on the new drive created by the tool, right-click the recycle bin, enable the configure drives independantly option, go to the tab corresponding to the new virtual drive and enable the "do not move ..." . Otherwise whenever you delete a file on the virtual drive it creates a system folder on the root of the drive and lowers the free space available for placing our cabs.

Thanks Apoc. I forgot to mention that.

Hi Guys, I think I've nailed down the culprits that keep reinstalling.
First off, as you guys probably know by now, the CABs don't automatically install if you put them in different sub-folder, like Programs, except Config. (sorry, didn't check out the other root folders).
These were the files I tested b4 (all CABs):
XMohairsofa Calendar+
PocketBible
XDinarsoft HandyMenu
XPelmar WisBar
XPocketMax PhoneAlarm
XMortRing
XTillanosoft SmallMenu
Those with 'X' are the no-no.
The way I figured, not expert opinion so I stand to be corrected, is these are the ones that either go into the Windows/Startup or Today Plug-Ins. So anything that starts up with the system will automatically reinstall at every Soft Reset.
These are the files I have now in my iPAQ ROM:
1-Calculator
Pocket Mechanic
PHM Registry Editor
Microsoft SQLCE 2.0
Tillanosoft tgetfile
and btw, i've noticed that the TMO extrom has some apps installed in the program files folder, instead of installing the apps to the ram, the cab files simply add the needed reg values, may be a solution to save ram space but it should work only with some apps only because of the read only attr of the extrom, but then again, I've managed to delete files from the extrom using resco explorer, it showed an error msg, but the file was deleted... some kind of "conflict" between the device assuming the extrom as read only and the inheritance of file attr from windows.
Didn't quite understand your last paragraph though,
some apps don't need to create or modify files inside its install dir, config files for example, they save the config/etc in the registry. By placing these apps in the extrom we could gain a little more free space in the RAM, UltraVNC for example, it only needs the .exe to run I think, so it could be placed under ' [extrom]\program files\vnc\ ' , the ultravnc.cab would only add the link to the app in the start menu or programs. In this case we wouldn't save much space, but we can do the same for ringtones, wouldn't be visible in the ringtone selection menu, but it could be set via a cab file or manually, the same for.. themes.
Yup. Got it this time!
I have some apps. in storage card that I just copy & paste short-cuts to start menu/programs folder. They work just the same, I guess.
I just did the update works great. But when I go to the start menu then program I see the messenger, aim, icq and yahoo are there but when I click it said cannot find TMO_yahoo or aim or the other. How do I remove the icons on the program menu?
