Lightbulb ROM Updating Instructions - Read Here First

Since T-Mobile has released the official ROM update, you should visit T-Mobile and use that to update your phone.

If you are an early adopter looking to put the T-mobile apps back in your phone permanently go Here or Here You will have to put the device in bootloader mode to do it. Follow directions below for bootloader mode. The rest of these instruction are for reference only as they are not relevent anymore.

OK. There has been a reoccuring question about the ROM upgrade. Which one? OK. Here are your scenarios:

1. Download the NewestROM from lvlolvlo's site or the ROM Update with the updated hpRUU.ini from njbair's site and add it to the extraced files from the zip. Run this and you are done. This updates your ROM and leaves all the T-Mobile stuff alone. It will look just like the first time you turned it on out of the box.

2. Download the New ROM from lvlolvlo's site or the ROM Update from njbair's site. Run this and it will update the ROM but will wipe out all T-Mobile apps and splash screens. Once you do this there is no putting it back in the ROM. You cannot run method 1 after running method 2 to regain the T-Mobile apps.

3. If you want to install the T-Mobile apps after a number 2 flash download the T-Mobile Installer from lvlolvlo's site or the T-Mobile Installer from njbair's site. Copy the CAB file to your device and tap it. It will begin to run. When asked, choose to Yes To All. When finished there will be a file called tmo.cpf in the root of the device. Tap it. It will not appear to be doing anything, but will disappear when finished. Reset your device. Now if you choose the number 2 installer with the T-Mobile installer method, it will have to be reinstalled after every hard reset.

Another question coming up is updating a second time on the same device. If you want to do this you have to put it in bootloader mode. To do this hold down buttons 1 and 2 (email and contacts) and press the reset button. Release the reset button without releasing buttons 1 and 2. Once this is completed successfully, you will see NO AC and BL in the lower right hand corner. You can now release buttons 1 and 2. Place the device in the cradle and run the update again.

OK. Hopefully I have answered all questions in one place. Lets try to keep this post clean so we don't end up with a cluttered post. You can ask me questions by PM and I will update this post if neccessary. Thanks.

OK. Let me add this to the instructions.

1. The patch has been rumored to affect the simlock but does not. It will not unlock the device nor will it lock it back if it was previously unlocked.

Unhappy installed update and have lots of problems

Guys, I have installed the update according to instructions and my iPAQ stalls on me all the time, the phone doesn't work, I seem to have lost my unlock and everything takes ages to open, could anyone help me?

**UPDATE** I found the solution to my problem -> I had to downgrade the SIM card in my iPAQ and it solved my problems, the ROM upgrade doesn't work well with new SIM cards.

New Partnership after ROM Upgrade?

Do you need to set up a new partnership after the ROM upgrade?, including a reinstalation of all programs? or after finishing the ROM upgrade, your PDA is back to normal with all the programs and information you had in it just before the upgrade?
Thanks,

ranbarth, can you fill me in some more on downgrading the sim card? A few months ago, to resolve an SMS issue, I had to get T-mobile to replace my SIM card with a new one. So if there's a problem with new SIM cards, I'm a little reluctant to try the ROM, but I really would like to fix the bluetooth problems, etc. How did you "downgrade" your SIM card?

Thanks, -=- Mike
