There is a theory that there are different models of this phone in circulation, and that a certain type does not have nearly as many problems as another. I am interested in seeing the distrobution of these types among users.
If you have problems or no problems, post a reply in the following format:
Type: (1,2,3 or other is fine)
Problems:

Ex. Myself:
Type: 1
Problems: Lockups, Unreliable Bluetooth, Recievers hear echo
Obtained: From T-Mobile Direct store

Go to Settings->System->HP Asset Viewer->Advanced Details (at bottom). It creates a Word doc that we all can post here to compare versions of apps.
I wonder if the different faceplate configurations are indicative of different ROM Revisions or something.
My Advanced Details look like the following (I have the T-mobile logo under the LEDs, and nothing above the Call-End button):

This is my first post. I'm so glad I found you. My 6315 is quite new to me and is my first PDA, but it appears to have everything I need for our business.
I'm having a lot of probs getting it set up. I hope to lessen my list before I start bugging you all. But, one thing I couldn't find the definition of what "Caption Static" means. I used it (or tried to, lol) out in the world the fist time today and that appeared on the screen and wouldn't go away. Any suggestions!

Thanks all!
You have the 3 connection icons below the LED and a Tmobile logo on above the End call button? I expected more people to have a type 1... maybe the problems aren't isolated afterall.

I've never believed that the problems were isolated to one or another. From the first, I've posted that I think there were some design compromises made (or flaws) that are the reason for the things we're seeing. I wish they had decided on a price line of a couple hundred dollars more and up-engineered the 6315 but I suppose they know where the marketing price line of resistance is for these devices.
EyePaq....I removed the EMEI number of your 6315 you had posted. Sometimes it aint a good idea to post that as it can be used to obtain Unlock code by any non-member just trolling these forums and that might cause a "very slight" disturbance in your life style......hope you understand.....I would recommend you call T-Mo and let them know to keep track of this unique number and to call you if anyone refers to this number!!!...

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
Other than some PPC apps not working properly (which other have reported so it might be a PPC2002 app running on PP2003?) I have some echo when cell signal is low. Some "air" or "hiss" during some calls. WiFi tested OK if not using 128-bit WEP and haven't tried connecting anything Bluetooth yet.
No problematic lock ups (other than when certain apps were running as mentioned above).

Thank you! I will call them tomorrow. I had no idea. What a noob!
Type: 2 (T-Mobile logo above end call button)
Probs: GSM phone works badly, signal strength indicator extremely slow and inaccurate, coverage/sensitivity terrible, occasional lockups and soft reset needed, keyboard didn't work reliably until installed SPB Pocket Plus (!)
Purchased: direct from T-Mobile business account rep
