It's time to clean up this forum because it's starting to get redundant in here... where's equus? He's in charge of the Department of Redundancy Department...

Does anyone have experience with buying a 6315 and freely getting unlock code from T-Mobile to allow its use with another SIM/Service provider? I am in the market, but havn't had luck with the US sources on this information. Getting cross-continent information is near impossible. Have company SIM/Phone in South Africa and want to use the Nokia SIM card in the IPac. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Originally posted by jpmihalk T-Mobile will only give the unlock code to customers after 90 days, per their policy.
Their current policy is one unlock code per 90 days. They do, in fact, enforce this. I know this because they ignored my first unlock request, and with the second one informed me that it was less than 90 days since my previous unlock request. By email of course, not directly. Now I get to hassle them again to unlock it for me.
I just met my 90 days! I contacted TMobile, requested by unlock code, and received it within 5 days. Used it and it worked easily. Now I can use my 6315 with both my T-Mobile SIM and my SIM from Cingular -- no problem, including GPRS and SMS.
This apparently turned into an unlock thread but I'll try to get back on topic with a new FAQ. It's also worth noting that if you're a regular here and you notice a question being asked which you know you've seen before, please be a dear and add it to this FAQ thread. I'm not trying to play moderator here but this forum is becoming a mess. Check me if I'm out of line.
Q: I'm having trouble with GPRS. I have it set to internet2.voicestream.com and everything else seems to be set right, but it's not working correctly.
A: internet2 is the incorrect server. iPAQs should always connect to wap.voicestream.com. Try changing it, and if it still doesn't work, contact T-Mobile support for more help.
Q: When I close Pocket Outlook with the X button, my iPAQ locks up.
A: You probably have a task manager app such as SPB Pocket Plus which is closing Pocket Outlook instead of simply minimizing it. See if your task manager app has a feature to exclude certain apps from being closed, and add \Windows\tmail.exe to that list.
Q: What programs should I download for my new toy?
A: It's normal to go crazy trying every cool-sounding program you find in Google. Just remember that not all apps play well with every device. A good place to consult if you are concerned about an app is the forum sticky Software Issues - Use Caution When Installing These!
Q: My BT headset is not working properly.
A: Search the forum. There are a ton of threads regarding Bluetooth headset issues. A good place to start is the sticky h6315 Bluetooth Success / Failure... And if you haven't already, you may want to consider one of the patches available in this forum. There are two stickies regarding upgrades that have shown significant improvements in Bluetooth functionality. Check out Extracted Bluetooth Stack from i-mate patch and the world-famous 6315 unOfficial Patch.
Q: I want to copy my SIM phone numbers into Contacts.
A: There is an easy way to do this on an h6315 with the T-Mobile ROM. Under Start>Programs, choose Phone Book. This app is provided by T-Mobile to view/edit the contents of your SIM card. It has options to copy your stored SIM phone numbers to Contacts.
Q: I want to copy my Contacts to my SIM card.
A: As of yet there has not been any luck in finding a program to accomplish this task. Currently, T-Mobile provides a relatively quick method of entering phone numbers into your SIM card. To use this feature, you must log in to the T-Mobile website (http://www.t-mobile.com) and click on Communication Tools. Then, from the menu on the right, choose Download phone numbers. A window will pop up allowing you to add up to 10 numbers at a time.
my 6315 has been costantly trying to connect to GPRS...once, i noticed that it's already connected to GPRS...I'm not even sure how long it's been connected...
is it free to connect to GPRS? or would you know how much they charge?...does tmo charge it to your minutes?

No, to connect to GPRS you must have a data plan with T-Mobile. The unlimited plan is $20/month and lets you surf all you want. SMS Messages are not included, though... they charge for them separately.
i don't think i have a data plan with TMO...but when my 6315 connected to their GPRS, does that mean i have a data plan? or they are going to charge me on my next bill?
